This track makes more sense in the context of the time it was written. Marshall had blown up and one of the first things he did was get his half brother, Nathan, out of foster care and took guardianship of him. His brother was put in foster care because his mom was making them sick for attention, sympathy, benefits, and money. She was a big fan of filing frivolous lawsuits and sued Marshall for $10 million for defamation. She went on Oprah and news programs saying that he was a spoiled, ungrateful kid who didn’t have it bad. She was mad that he wouldn’t help her out financially and her trailer was going to be repossessed. This track was him trying to explain his side of the story. I love your reaction to this.

Eminem was at his best on the Marshall Mathers LP, every song in that album is good. “Kill you” is a vulgar but funny and smart song about the critique he was already getting by that time for his lyrics and demeanor, and not least, it’s a great song.

There is a line toward the end about Uncle Ronnie. Eminem's grandma had a son just a few months before he was born, and that was Uncle Ronnie. Since they were the same age, they acted more like brothers and were inseparable. It was Ronnie who turned Em on to rap. When, Ronnie was 19, he became despondent over getting dumped by his girlfriend. Em and his mom were living far away at the time, leaving Ronnie without Em to vent to. Sadly, Ronnie committed suicide; this left Em devastated.

This song was so deep and introspective. I'd recommend watching 8mile where he gets into some of that in the movie. The difference in old Em vs. new Em IMO is back in the day he was all about his personal struggles from growing up, relationships, trying to get into the rap game... and then he added kind of going after everyone on the pop tip/fakers/posers... now he's more about trolling haters and proving he's still got it.... I like a lot more "old" Em but I have to admit these last three albums starting with Kamikaze have been stellar and a good mix of his new stuff with bringing up the old to some degree.

Hey man, i really appreciate your reactions i guess it's because it's both nostalgic and humbling seeing someone react to a song we all reacted to in the same way when we heard it. I can't imagine an artist today purposely leaving themselves so vulnerable or exposed or raw about typically incredibly personal & private things like em did back then, when considered with the climate of rap then, and well his whiteness, imo that's why Eminem is one of the best ever. It's not just about how you rhyme it's also about what, and real shit hits really home.
A feel good turn could be some "school for the performing arts" Pac, like unconditional love or so many tears. Honorable mentions in classics:
Anything off the chronic 2001 album everything Tupac
    E-40
    OutKast -ATLiens
Most Def -travelin man is a must for the modern emcees
Rage against the machine ( hey it could be considered rap-ish) lol
    Current artists?
Anything Montana of 300 has ever dropped esp the remixes
    K.A.A.N- Kancepts 1 and 2, LTN
Most of Joyner's + ALL his remixes(bank account)
Futuristic for a while was flaming everything he touched
& I might get flacked for this but ion care i fuck with Kodak hard too he's much deeper than people think actually his storytelling reminds me of pac sometimes too! Not his rhyming tho but hey i think his sound is dope it's different like Wayne back in the day was just... different. Different is good, and good is good too!
    Ok bye now lol

Eminem Dre and a couple other people after this album did call themselves T12. The only song I know by D-12 called I'm in the Band.

It's really hard to go wrong with anything from either of the Slim Shady or Marshall Mathers LPs.

Somebody gave me the cassette, The Eminem Show, when it came out. I thnk it was like 2,000? I can't remember maybe 99 and my kids were like four and six or at least around there. So every time he hit the chorus where you saying I'm sorry Mama my little young ones and be singing that I know there was foul language but they knew better than to repeat it. They are in their mid-20s now.

The music industry was mad with him, not because of this song. they were mad for the real
    slim shady.
