I think my voice is not monotone but I still need to practice more and be mindful of the stress words and use higher pitch there. Can you suggest how we can identify the stress words in a sentence? It's lovely to see you again. Thanks so much ❤
Thank you Hadar, I love all the details you try to add to every video. If I don't pay attention or I feel nervous, not only do I speak monotonously, but also I lose control on the accent.
I can’t thank you enough. This is exactly what I am missing in my English to sound perfect and accurate and pin point American accent until I discovered this video. You are love, Hadar.
Incredible! Despite being a native English speaker I've been monotonous most of my life, it's something I've been trying to work on though and vids like this definitely help. I've still got a lot of work to do before I've mastered speaking melody, just switching between high and low pitches seems to put strain on my throat :(.
Intonation is driving me nut! I try to be more rythmic but I find myself overpitching and my first language rythm takes over. Thanks Hadar for these tips! Btw, you look stunning as always!
Thank you Hadar. My tone used to sounded flat, because, but since i started to use the shadowing technique with you and other you tubers, i noticed that when i speak in English, i sound more musical. I still have a long way to run but, at least i feel that i have improved a lot thanks to your tips. Again, thank you so much.
Hey, really glad to hear. and it doesn't matter where you have to get to, it's the steps that you're taking now that are important. And I'm happy you recognize the progress. ♥️
I grew up in Sweden speaking Swedish as my 1st language, but was fluent in english from a young age. I moved to the US almost 20yrs ago and am married to an American. Even after all these years I still get the occasional 'whats that accent' question. It used to REALLY bother me and make me self conscious, but nowadays I just brush it off with a 'yeah it come out every now and then'. However.. after someone asked me about my accent last night (I seriously can't hear my own accent when I speak! and have never really understood how some people pick up on my accent within minutes of me talking!!?) I decided to record myself (reading back some of the words, sentences and lines you have in your videos).. AND I now realize my problem isnt my pronunciation of things..its the lack of pitch changing. I never realized how monotone my voice can be in english 🤭
I definitely tend toward monotone speech and am trying to learn how to change that up. Thank you so much for such an engaging and concise presentation of helpful tips!
I really want to go natural English with fluency and confidence, but no one is here to correct me.You help me improve my English skill.I appreciate. Thanks so much.Bye for now.
In Chinese every word has a fixed tone. Change the tone and it becomes another word. That's why many Chinese always speak English in the same melody. Thanks for the video. I'll give it a try.
Thank you so much, Hadar. This is another great video! I have posted this one on my blog for Chinese-speaking audience. This is your second post on my blog. You are the best!
I think this is the only thing I struggle with in English. I have to invest more time practising the correct intonation and pitch as well. If I can master that, I'll definitely sound more like a native speaker.
I am learning English and I would like you to put subtitles in English because the subtitles generated automatically by RUclips are very wrong the main reason is to have a better learning experience, I really like your way of teaching thank you
Hi Hadar, Thanks so much . I subscribed. you're my savior for telling how to change the video speed. Now I can learn not only the language but also fingering positions and licks or else any other You tube videos that I wanted to learn. Example is Learning language ,art work, music or very fast Guitar licks and fingering …etc..Cheers
Hey Hadar! All of your videos are super informative. I've already learned a lot from them. You really stand out among other pronunciation and ACCENT teachers! :) Keep it up! Greetings from Poland!
This is a very good video I met a lot of people who taught that changing their pitch meant shouting out the contents words. You should hear how the sentence sounds like when every content word is shouted instead of using pitch change.
Yes I agree, using volume instead of pitch can make one sound forced. I actually talked about it in my video "how to sound natural in English" check it out! Xo
I am not a native speaker, I have czech language as my native language and it is exactly how you say it - it is kind of monotonous and when I want to speak english it is difficult to get more intonation :-D you helped me a lot, definitely will watch your other videos to improve my speaking on the camera :D have a wonderful day!
Thank you so much. I watched the video at full speed the other day, and I heard the changes in intonation, especially the contrast between higher and lower pitches but this time around, watching at half the speed, I really caught the pitch and felt like I started noticing when my pitch is high and when it's low. I used to be totally clueless when it came to controlling my pitch, then I'd change it radically, not really knowing how to control it correctly but now I think I might end up learning how to do it. I'm so excited about the fact that I might start sounding a lot more American I and possibly could start sounding better in my native Finnish 'cause I could finally start using the right intonation patterns again. You should definitely make more videos on the English pitch. I mean exercise videos, not necessarily videos where you explain what the pitch is, rather like a series of videos where you first explain what pitch is (this video) and then on the following videos, you could make you memorize phrases. I really recommend you to check out NachoTime's Channel on RUclips. I think he uses a good memorization technic you could start putting in your videos. He made me start memorizing phrases and now it's almost impossible for me not to repeat everything I hear. I've learned probably thousands of phrases and I've activated some old ones that I used to understand but that I never used myself. Here's a very good example of how his memorization exercises work. ruclips.net/video/sD3LC69Mo00/видео.html The way he does it: First he tells you something about Spanish or language learning in general. Then when he tells something important, an "exercise icon" appears on the screen showing that the following sentence is going to be repeated from memory. #1 First you try to repeat the whole sentence. #2then for the second repeat, you're given some words so that you can remember the rest. #3 then you're asked to repeat the phrase one last time. I've noticed my ability to speak Spanish and memorize phrases skyrocket thank to this very easy exercise. It's also improved every single language I speak. My Spanish intonation has gotten much better too. I really hope you check the video out and give it serious though. You don't have to speak Spanish to see what he is doing. :)
@@hadar.shemesh Thank you for being so active and actually acting upon the things we suggest you. You're an amazing teacher. I've been on a journey to become a teacher for around three years. I've been teaching my mother tongue, Finnish to people, and I remember how I struggled at first but then by keeping at it, I've got much better at teaching. I'm an amateur teacher but I've noticed teaching really is the best way to learn. It's put me thinking about so many things I had previously never thought about. Keep up the good work!

I loved this lesson, the happy birthday to you example has opened my eyes, till watching this video I had not understood all this pitch stuff but now it's crystal clear. By the end of the video I was wondering how could I train my pitch since I don't have a clue of what syllables I should highlight (of course I have a clue if I can think over each sentence for a minute, but not at conversational speed). And then you come in the last minute with the imitating technique at half speed that seems a wonderful idea. You bet I'm gonna make it a daily practice. Thank you so much for this great content.
Coming from South Brazil, where the Portuguese accent was heavily influenced by immigrants coming from Azores - who do a lot of singing while they speak - this is easy for me :)
I like the way you explain I dont even know your name but thank you so much. You are so prety im from El Salvador im speak ver y chopy, flat im practicing with your vídeos im ver y gratefull
This is difficult when you are from Sweden, it takes a lot of practice😊 even though Im an English teacher I can hear my Swedish intonation way too much sometimes 😅

My voice is flat and monotone, even in my native language... so your videos dealing with intonation are really valuable to me.
