Mai isn’t emotionless, nor without passion. She just doesn’t have everything on the surface like Zuko or Azula. Glad we get ranges of personality instead of characters that always succumb to their respective element.

I like how comfortable they are with each other. Animation should include more examples of a healthy relationship between young people to help encourage the right behaviour between couples.
I'm a Zuko simp that Normally gets really jealous of the characters my fave is shipped with, but in this case there is nobody else I prefer with him than Mai. I don't understand how people don't think that he loved her, it's....really obvious to me. She's the only girl that I think Zuko seriously cared about, to the point that "leaving her" to protect the Fire Nation was something that hurt him a lot, which we see multiple scenes of him battling with. And Mai is such a queen, because in the end she understood and stayed by his side to help him get away, even at the expense of her friendship with Azula. I really think this is one of those couples where the unpleasant parts are meant to be volatile, like the stereotypical way teenage relationships are, but beyond those squabbles the pair truly do love each other, and have for a long time and that's why I like them! Just the way Zuko smiles whenever he sees or even THINKS ABOUT Mai (such as when he was telling Sokka about her) is unique and I don't know why so many people brush it under the rug. It's so sweet! Zuko wanting to see Mai be passionate about things because it meant she could be more full of life and make her stronger is another thing I noticed. Even when he was upset with her, it felt more like Tough Love than animosity because not even five minutes later, he was wanting to make sure she was okay. 🥺 I dunno, I just really like that. There isn't too much to analyze about Mai because there is just a lot of blatant evidence that she has always liked Zuko, but I think her loyalty despite his flaws, always being by his side and essentially wanting to see the best of him too, is special. And the way they both brighten up at the end of the series when they see one another again.... Aaaahhhhh. I really love how much this couple respects one another, and how clear as day their love and fondness for each other is. I'm glad the precious Zuko I simp for has someone as beautiful and badass as Mai to love as much as I love him. 😂🥺
