It's for the tax write-off, as they can dump the extras and call it a 'loss'. It happens at all construction sites, especially as buying extras is often a pass-through cost to their client.
Finally getting our fence and roofs (house, garage, and sheds) redone after the tornado came through Shawnee, OK back in April. Told the contractors we would keep all the metal so we could scrap it. They were happy to leave it so they didn't have to dispose of it. Guess they don't do scrap runs. Imagine how much money they would make scrapping all that metal! Oh well, at least we'll have more money in the bank!
The dumpsters get tipped out in a yard,, all scrap gets taken out,.....dumpsters don't go straight to a landfill.....A lot of what we throw away now can be recycled and it is.......Sadly, a lot does go to landfills after being sorted.
In order to make those bolts and for them to end up still boxed is amazing. The bolt started out as a design, then a machine part had to be made to make them from raw material, the machined, quality control, packaging, shipping(fuel wasted) received, stocked and then unceremoniously dumped! Not to mention all the employees payments! Extremely wasted ! Thank you Mike for saving them! Your the best!
Back in the 70's I was a bolt maker and made mostly large bolts like those and they start out as a big roll of round steel and ends up as a finished bolt except for galvanizing, it was interesting how the machine worked but definitely some danger involved working with it.
@@indianaslim4971 I worked for an extruding company that made the extruders. The amount of man hours from design to finish was astounding! What a waste on these bolts! Glad Mike can at least scrap them!
@@dianewilliams1125 definitely a waste by the company, curious as to what type of extruding your company did, on the machine I worked, extruding wasn't a separate process, it was accomplished in one of the dies that the battering ram hit, there were 4 dies that were hit every time with fingers that would move the bolt laterally to the next die and the final die would kick the bolt up and out to the dies that would make the threads.

When you think about how much energy goes into making those bolts, it’s just mind blowing that entire boxes of new ones are discarded as trash. Good work for finding them MTS!
Energy ? Heck watch a video on it it takes moments to make those. Pump them out buy the thousands. And their paid for ya can't save everything you'd be over run with junk.🤷
You're correct that everything can't be saved for being over ran but it certainly can be sold for something rather than thrown I to the trash. Or even a more crazy idea would be to ask employees if anyone would want them to make a few extra $

Mike Mike Mike!!! Dude-a-saurus-rex!!!! Thanks for taking us along for the adventure!!! I appreciate you! Stay safe stay great and keep up the good work! Stay weird!!!
I think a lot of old "broken" collectable toys are going to become much more saleable soon, because of the how many people are getting 3D printers. I am thinking of getting one just to print spare parts for my old Playmobil trains. There are many websites now where you can download the files to print parts at home.
🙋🥁😊❤. So So So nice to see your New Vedio. It was awesome. You just don't know how much I enjoy your Vedioes. Please keep making more. Stay Safe and God Bless you and your Wife animals too. 😇👍
Those Yellow looking “toes for boots” haha- those are for putting the nuts and bolts and washers in. Flip them over and thru the hole on them selfs and then you have a place to carry them while your working then you just cut it off afterwards- but hey if you want to wear them over the toe of your boots then go ahead- hahahaha
I finally got it lol very first person to see your video usually I'm in 2000s by the time I see your videos even when they just come out after a couple hours keep up the good work and keep the videos coming some of us like watching them over and over try putting out a video like 99 dumpsters and show everyone even if it's empty and see what you can come up with or maybe 3 hours of dumpster diving live
Pretty sure that is the GI Joe tank my sons had. They were growing yo in the 80's! There should be a sort of light brown or green piece that covers the opening. I think a tank gun went on top? Still have my sons toys but it is not here at the summer place in Montana. My favorite toys of theirs were the He Man! I liked Moss Man!
Wait, did I just hear Mike just say he was 35 in 1988? Which would make him 69 years old? Holy shit! That’s some good genes right there! Love this channel.
As we all know, you like your scraps and all those little scraps end up as a huge pile, eventually. But you do the work and deserve the rewards. And we enjoy watching you do it. (🇬🇧).
So does my son! I cringe every time Mike finds them because they're going to be pulled apart for scrap. Where is your shop? Mt son's is in Hudson,NH! Be safe!😊😊😊
OMG Im definetly addicted. Today I was driving along, and saw a microwave, then a ceiling fan on opposite side of the road. I says outloud "oh Mike would like that!"
Mike spinning those fan blades in the air reminded me that he might be ready to go kill some of the Walking Dead on that tv show! Wouldn't that be fun. Everyday is Christmas for Mike whether it's a curb or bin. Such an upbeat guy is awesome to watch.
Every Sunday I walk the around in Amsterdam to see what everyone trow away. I find nice stuff, but Mike man, you find the good stuff. You inspire me! Thank you
I’m sitting here grinning in joy for your bonanza in that dumpster. God bless you with many more in the future! You’re very entertaining and I love your videos. Those who can’t get out to go diving, get to experience it again through fresh eyes. ❣️😇❣️
Heavy Hardware - Fittings - Lucky You ! Bags of Oil Pads - wow ! Great Street Scrapping and Dumpster Diving - All Sorts - Water Heaters and Such ! GI-Joe - hey that's bringing back Memories ! Some nice Stainless as well ! Great Video and many Cheers from Australia !
We had an HOA when we lived in a townhouse and I said never again!! When we bought our house I specifically searched for a house that didn’t have an HOA! They were such a pain fine you for everything and charge you a bunch for stuff you don’t even use!
Another great safari into the urban jungle Mike. Looks like a decent haul. Good for you! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Stay safe, regards from your friend in Australia 🇦🇺 Rob T.
Thanks Mike for letting us in on your daily routine… I am simply amazed at what gets put in the trash!!! It’s insane!!! Thanks for keeping it out of the landfill!!
What an awesome haul. Was diving right in there after those bolts dreaming of making a wild sculpture with the haul from the opentop. I hope your HOA is not crampin’ your style too much.
I have been watching your channel for a long time Mike, 14:21 this is the first time I got to see you look like...Rock on!! Thank you for everything you do!! ~ WD
Heck yeah, I'm sure all that brand new hardware still in the boxes are " expired ". Some companies claim they cannot afford raises for employees because overhead and supplies are too high. Wonder if this is such a place. Lots of money in that open top. Glad you're there to not see it go to waste
2:43 I’m always shocked at the insane prices our childhood GI-JOE toys go for! And Yes, I’m a woman & as a little girl I LOVED He-Man anything & had a Barbie Dream House & the boys would bring their GiJoe stuff to play. Good times.
@mikethescavenger, the GI Joe stuff: The big one is called "Rolling Thunder" The other green one with the camo top is "APC" The white one is called "Skystorm"
Mike is the landfill's friend. You should tag team with a pallet collector. Those pallets can be broke down and turned into cool ish if you have a planer and the know-how!
Man, you find the best crap! It blows me away how someone can afford to throw away all those bolts! Everybody take notice. This is why stuff in general cost so much, they have to cover the cost of the waste.
Mike I love your videos. I just had knee surgery and really can’t do anything right now. So I sit and watch your videos. I can’t wait till you post your next one!!
I’m always amazed how much money is thrown away in those construction dumpsters
As a full time trash man, you wouldn't even begin to believe what people throw out... its mind boggling...
Very sad
They would reuse a lot of that stuff in different countries

ITS A GOOD DAY WHEN MIKE IS OUT AND ABOUT!!! PEACE AND LOVE AND HAPPINESS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!! PEACE ✌☮.
Good to see you getting your exercise 😂😂
It's crazy when I watch a dumpster diving channel over my nail videos. It's some good laughs.
LOL @ speaker cleaning sound effects! About 3:30 into the video. Your sense of humor is awesome! 🤣
Man I swear I can watch you jump in and out of dumpsters all day. Much love and appreciation from Indiana
Got started slow and ended up getting full. Looking forward to seeing your videos and you follow ups.❤❤❤❤👍👍👍
Wow amazing find on all that hardware. Way too good to just scrap all these nuts, bolts and washers.

Thank goodness you're retrieving all those bolts. It's criminal to chuck them away
Those were the same G. I. Joe stuff my son had. Oh my!
As we all know, you like your scraps and all those little scraps end up as a huge pile, eventually. But you do the work and deserve the rewards. And we enjoy watching you do it. (🇬🇧).
Those old electrics are really sought after. I sell them all the time in my shop.
So does my son! I cringe every time Mike finds them because they're going to be pulled apart for scrap. Where is your shop? Mt son's is in Hudson,NH! Be safe!😊😊😊

Great find in the last dumpster.
The absorbent pads not cheap. Glad you grabbed them.
Watching you pack and re-pack your truck, i reckon you were good at Tetris as a kid. Good hunting/finding.
Mike spinning those fan blades in the air reminded me that he might be ready to go kill some of the Walking Dead on that tv show! Wouldn't that be fun. Everyday is Christmas for Mike whether it's a curb or bin. Such an upbeat guy is awesome to watch.
Nice, short & sweet! 👍👍👍👍 Love it Mike! ❤❤❤❤❤ May God ALWAYS Bless you and ALL of your loved ones! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Another good video
If given the opportunity, I believe you could tear up a train wreck and enjoy every moment. Keep up the good work.
That's crazy ask those Fastener boxes! I've been a Cold Header setup man for 30yrs producing fasteners and those large diameter bolts are big money.
