Lots of Fuji love in the comments so figured I'd address why I didn't include it lol. If you check out the full review ruclips.net/video/85wvNuL7suU/видео.html I absolutely loved the image quality and highlight rolloff was so smooth it felt like you had more dynamic range than you did. Unfortunately I had autofocus issues with all but the newest lenses (which are cheaper lenses), the ergonomics aren't ideal for video, it overheated in less than 20 minutes in my direct FL sunlight, IBIS performance was OK at best, and the battery life was pretty bad. Not a bad camera at all...certainly you could work around all those issues to get amazing image quality and colors, but that's why it wasn't my favorite for the best camera. It's also pretty expensive for an APSC camera given plenty of full frame options are cheaper.
Agreed with your points, but you should really check out the Fuji X-T200 for the under 1000 USD options. It gives no-crop 4K up to 30P and 1080p 120p, with that gorgeous APS-C sensor and Fuji colours. Additionally it does have a mic input and a flippy screen. Underrated beast of a camera. I use it as a B-Roll Cam with my GH5, and there is zero compromise in quality.

Would be nice to see a video talking about investing in certain camera systems and their upgrade paths, pros and cons. eg lenses and company direction.
Dan, great video, please help, I'm currently looking to upgrade my camera, I heard the Sigma 30mm F1.4 lens are amazing for auto focus, but I'm not sure what camera to buy in conjunction with the lens, which one would recommend please? I currently use Canon 750D DSLR, probably I need to upgrade to a mirrorless one now, need that sharp clear image for videos, would be super grateful if you could help, thank you xo
Hey!!! Thanks Barbara. So yes, things have definitely gotten better in the last few years with mirrorless cameras and video although the Canon 90D is still a DSLR and made some fairly big improvements. Can I ask what lens you're using now? Looks like you are somewhere around 24mm-35mm. So unfortunately the under $2000 options for cameras are all a bit underwhelming at the moment. Granted, they would still be an upgrade but they lack a bit in some video areas you would benefit from. Would spending $2500 on a camera be too much? Otherwise the Canon 90D will work with your existing lenses and will at least give you 4k
what would your suggestion be for a camera under $500 4k quality, I need to take product pics and content. I find using the phone pic doesn't cross over well on the website.
I want to purchase mirrorless camera that's hybrid at the price tag of $ 500-$800 now I don't where to begin with as it will be my first purchase kindly suggest for your thought on this @Dan.
I'm a Live streamer I film crime scenes ect. I'm looking for a good Camera for my inside Road Cam I'm a huge Canon Fan so I'm looking for something that captures good light, I stream at night. This camera will only stay mounted in my vehicle I only Run 720p mainly cause I run at night and need as much light as i can. Looking for a middle range price my price range is $800-$1300 any help would be amazing. So short summary good quality well driving at night. Also needs a good zoom.
I just became apart of the Panasonic family I'm coming from a Nikon D5600 I still have the Nikon but I wanted to upgrade and understand the cinema world more. I'm loving it so far it's built like how it's weight lol 💪🏾💪🏾
I’m having a dilemma rn. I have about $2500 to spend on a camera & lens/lenses. My dream pallet of shooting would be 50% event b roll (concerts, weddings, conferences, etc), 20% professional work (music videos, commercials, interviews, etc), 20% travel videos, & 10% RUclips (vlogs, live, talking head). I know…I wanna be a Jack of all trades lol. Im personally looking at the S5 or A7III. I really like the UI & controls, IBIS, & image quality of LUMIX, but I love the AF & “ecosystem” of Sony cameras. I feel Sony would be a better long term investment w/ the awesomeness of the A7siii & upcoming A7iv, but I feel Panasonic is a better bang for my buck today.
So you're pretty right on with your assessment. Panasonic is nailing the video camera quality, features, and ergonomics better than anyone but they have yet to deliver top end AF performance (although I expect that to change this fall with the GH6) and the S5 has improved slightly with firmware to the point where it can be used in certain circumstances. Their lenses are also a bit more expensive though. If you do want AF, either the Nikon Z6 or Sony A7III are the best bets under $2000 in my opinion with the Sony being a better long term investment with awesome upgrade options and the Z6II being slightly better overall today
@@learningcameras thanks for the insight. I know Panasonic is growing it’s lens offerings for L Mount, but it’ll take years to get to the level of Sony, w/ plenty of 3rd party & used options. It all boils down to do I want to buy the better camera today, or buy into the better system today. The future for Sony full frame is a bit more clear than the future for Panasonic full frame.
Nice video Dan👍🏾 looking at the canon R6 over the s5 due to autofocus evf and canons lens selection. Im just wondering if its worth the tradeoff to lose alot of the video functions and features of the s5 for the more reliable autofocus of the R6? There hasn't been many reviews doing an indepth comparison between the two, which is strange given they are around the 2000-2500 price point. Would love your opinion. Thanks
For me I'm just filming my self so much that I need reliable AF when I can't be behind the camera so that's most important. But, if I was always behind the camera I think I'd be ok with the S5 AF which 90 percent of the time is fine and when it does go off, you can see it and correct it. I haven't spend much time with the S5 specifically though especially since the recent update so it's tough for me to compare them directly but my experience with other Panasonic cameras is that I LOVE them when I am not relying on AF
I’m so grateful I found your channel man. Incredible content, incredible quality. The lighting and texture and video quality for this video is stellar, man. Do you have a course or mentorship? I’d pay good money for a course.
Panasonic is cool but their lenses is not that cool Though panasonic in 2-3 year will be not bad And yes viewfinder < tally lights, xlr adapter (you can buy it seperetaly and its pretty similary priced)
Wonder if you could help. Need a new camera for outdoor videography - camping videos with scenic shots. 1080p. Shortlist is A7S3 for lowlight or S2 and manual focus complex shots. EM 5 MK2/3 for budget. G9 for 10 bit. I need/want 15x zoom without being massive which pushes me to the 4/3 options but I also could use full frame with a teleconvertor. Weather sealing needed. What you think?
So definitely the problem is the zoom range you want. Just not going to get that from a single lens with good quality. If you don't mind multiple lenses, definitely go with the SIII but if you want a single lens option, actually look at the Sony RX10 bhpho.to/3tbv1mh Smaller sensor but still a wide aperture lens to make up for it
@@learningcameras Thanks will have a look. The option to have the range without having to change lenses or bother about weather sealed lenses sounds great. You've helped another scrub today, and he will pay tribute with many likes.

@@PurplePlanetProductions The XA50 has a 1" sensor!! I've been using it for over a month. Looks incredible even at just 1080p... the 4K is mind blowing!
Not really... Technically yes except the camera already takes this into account! That's why 1/50 F5.6 yields the same exposure no matter the sensor size. The camera boosts the gain internally to make up for the difference in light between sensor sizes. That's why a small sensor camera is crazy noisy at iso 800 while full frame cameras still look good. The only time you should actually multiply the crop factor is if you want to determine exact depth of field but when talking about exposure and quality, it's useless to mention it. F5.6 yields the exact same exposure on every camera regardless of sensor size. Digital cameras already make up for the difference!
Nikon Z9 has been mentioned by many to be the best hybrid camera at the moment especially if you want to do with and with amazing auto focus, would you agree???
In theory yes. Feature wise, it has everything. But I know a few people with the camera and after a few months, they use it less and less. It's just large, heavy, and the AF system occasionally stumbles a bit so the people who have other cameras on their shelf, end up spending less time with the Z9 than they expected in favor of other options. I feel the same way about the Canon R3 though....I have the R5 and it's better in a lot of ways, smaller, and cheaper so I only use the R3 when I need silent shutter which is rare because the Canon R5 mechanical shutter is already super quiet
@dan great overview!!! Looking for a sub $2500 option stabilized. I picked up a Sony a7iii and a ronin rsc2 gimbal without raven eye, but not sure that’s my best option for mostly video work and would love your thoughts.
Appreciate it! That's probably the best option for the price. Technically the Nikon Z6II is a bit better in a few areas but Nikon is a less popular system. It might cost a bit more today but I'm sure the resale on it a few years from now would be $500 higher anyway
It is in the under $2000 mark. I gave the winner to the Panasonic S5 but if you need amazing AF or more hybrid photo/video options, said the Z6II would be my other option
