    The riff cycle that starts at the 5:50 mark is incredible! The perfect blend of triumph and dissolution.

    Great demo as always! I own this pedal and it is amazing. The magic is in the way the DRV and Cut are connected. If you adjust the DRV you should also adjust the cut (to taste). There are such a wide variety of sounds on this. DRV at 3 o'clock and above with the cut at 9 oc or rolled off entirely sounds like mbv or old pumpkins with clarity (a cool setting not shown on many demos). The other key is the volume, that's the preamp side of the circuit, keep it loud! 1o'clock minimum (as in this vid) and push it up at lower drv settings. It's not a RAT. Advice for buying one would be to sign up to the company's mailing list and he'll let you know when more will be up for sale which is pretty often. Well worth the $250. Lot of folks trying to flip these for $350+ on reverb, don't give into that, support the pedal makers.

    i just found out about this pedal. Someone actually captured it for Quad Cortex. I now use it to build presets. It sounds amazing behind a Klon Centuar. I liked the capture so much I just bought the DRV Alt Universe limited edition. Should be here in the next week or two. Can't Wait!

    Got mine for a good price as an investment. Now that I’ve had it on my board for several months, I have discovered it has something special and I use it all the time. It’s a pedal that I would never sell.

      I'd like to make a video with it someday! Since I use the Captor I feel like focusing just on the amp it would be doing it a disservice because you're not hearing the actual speaker. But I'll see what I can do

    I like the lower gain indie rock stabs. Sounds cool to me. I do sometimes wonder if 90% of a pedals hype comes down to a sexy design though. The 1981 is pretty classy looking. If the Klon was called the spotted duck and came in a standard b box would it get by on sound alone? Probs not.

    • @thomasseaton8320
      @thomasseaton8320 3 года назад +1

      Update: I managed to build a clone of one of these. It does something pretty special. I see why so many people like it so much. Probably a have to try it in person to understand thing. I put mine in an old rusty Rat box.

      @@thomasseaton8320 how does it differ from the Rat soundwise? Do you still feel the same a year after the honeymoon period??

    • @thomasseaton8320
      @thomasseaton8320 2 года назад

      @@G.GordonMidi I owned an old woodcutter. I liked it okay but don’t understand the hype. It’s a distortion pedal. The 1981 is very nice. It’s pretty versatile too. I’d choose it over a classic Rat personally.

    Potentially unpopular opinion (although I'm not actually making any negative comments about the pedal at all - a great showcase and great playing as usual) - this IS a great sounding drive so yeah, I understand why people would like it, but I feel that it certainly isn't noticeably "better" than many, many similar pedals by any stretch - so I guess really what I'm wondering is, with so many other builders making such similar pedals to this, what is it about THIS one that seems to make people lose their shit over it so much, and makes them so desirable/expensive? Is it literally just the enclosure's aesthetic combined with 1981 having stronger marketing strategies than other builders (a.k.a the Supreme box logo effect of the pedal world) or is it something else I'm not seeing/hearing? Genuine question!

      If I closed my eyes and you played this video, I wouldn't have a damn idea what I was listening to. I think it all boils down to hype and marketing. However, it is a damn fine pedal. Sounds incredible, plays incredible, and it can do anything you want it to do. Oh, and it is so easy to use. I saw all the hype surrounding it, bought into it, paid the $250 for one, and I am so glad I did. I will never sell mine.

    • @KunchangLeeMusic
      @KunchangLeeMusic 3 года назад +2

      @@santorashane agree with Shane - I think the guy building it by himself and trying to support his family, justifies the price - I bought it and I’m glad I did - it sounds incredible - love the aesthetic - and inspires me to play things I normally wouldn’t - that for me justifies the price tag

    • @therewasascene

      Everyone loves a RAT. And most who do also wish it were just a little different. The 1981 was a big deal when it dropped because it offers a wider range of usable low gain tones - also I think the breakup’s more open texture is appealing to a lot of people.

    • @johnstevens3567
      @johnstevens3567 3 года назад +2

      It’s a fine pedal for the price, but it definitely gets a big boost in popularity for the looks. Because it is a beautifully designed pedal. It just doesn’t do enough other than that to stand out.

    Sounds like RAT. I know about schematics, but, anyway, what was all this hype about? It sounds fine, but it's just a modded RAT clone, you can get much cheaper copy, if your pedalboard is about music, not instagram.
    Nevertheless, great demo! I really dig your style of playing.
