It sets a bad precedence to use a "Y" splitter so the water hose can be used for both clean city water supply and black water flush, even with a backflow preventer (cross contamination). Furthermore, why would you not want pressure regulation on your black water flush? The black water flush line has a vacuum breaker that is susceptible to high pressure connections. The whole reason I first put a regulator on my city water line was to protect that vacuum breaker. I also replaced my cheap B&B plastic vacuum breaker with a Watts cast brass 125 psi max breaker. When the B&B failed, I had water spraying under my bathroom sink vanity and draining out the underside of my trailer.
I always turn off the clean water side when using the black hose flush, plus we do not drink campground water. It’s only used for showers and dish cleaning. Larry

something I never see mentioned on any of these video's is purging the air out of your water hose before you connected it to your rig. I use a 45% elbow with a shut off valve at the end and make my last connection at the coach after i turn the water on and bleed all the air out of the hose by using the valve at the end. also try a "zero G" hose, its drinking water rated and very easy to roll up and store and also light weight it has a tough outside jacket like a fire hose.
We copied Changing Lanes' suggested method of charging the black tank from the bottom with and extra waste valve and water inlet. (The extra valve, if you leave it on full-time, also helps prevent nasty surprises when first removing the valve cover!) I like your idea as well. Like you said - very important to keep an eye on the amount of water going in to the black tank!
I used to use one of those in a travel trailer that didnt have a flush inlet. I am always worried about having a black tank issue someday because fixing it is always a very nasty messy job, an ounce of prevention. Larry

We just bought our first travel trailer and your video was very helpful on tips to use at the campsites. For us first timers, it sure will help our trips less worrisome! Thanks for the video.
Larry 3D printed them. He’s going to sell them on his EBay and Etsy store but his printer broke. He ordered a new 3D printer and should have it running in about a week or so Sorry.
In my camper van I use all steel braided hoses and threaded fittings and tees and a 2 gal accumulator tank too and a sureflo 2088 3 chamber pump I could use my 4008 but it was making me mad trying to get the pressure right I keep my plumbing around 50 60 PSI
That’s pretty high pressure, we dont mind the lower pressure in our rv because it helps us conserve water, but it makes for an unsatisfying shower, haha. We are very rarely on full hookups so if we use the rv shower, we try to keep it under 2 gallons. Larry
I have a drinking water hose that actually has a brown stripe running the length of it. Guess what it's dedicated use is. lol Why not put your fancy pressure regulator on the 6" hose in the wet bay? Pretty hard to forget it at a campground then. ( I see now it has been said already) I use a brass 90 degree elbow instead of the 6" spring hose. With a bay like yours, you could leave it in place and cap it with a common 3/4" cap from any RV store. There might be a way to leave the elbow, water meter and regulator permanently connected in the wet bay too. My black tank is directly under the toilet. I just open the toilet valve and stick in a heavy duty spray wand I made (because the ones you buy are crap) and I can jet spray the entire tank, including the level sensors.
Some great suggestions, my pipe from the toilet to the black tank has a bend in it which makes it difficult to clean from the toilet, but I have this special sprayer to get around the bend. My wet bay is tight but I may try to set up the regulator in their. Larry
I put our pressure regulator in the water bay, that way I never forget it. I think all wather hoses will handle the high pressure that might be available at a camp site, so I don't feel a need to regulate the presure from the tap. This has worked very well for us. I also use quick connects and added a couple of more filters in-line with our hose to get better filteration.
Thank you!!! Newbie and was looking to use water splitter on main water supply but learned a lot more. Will be ordering more from Amazon from your suggestions. Being a 67 women I think the connectors will help so much more than making sure it tightens without leaks. Joints are harder to use as we age.
I really feel your pain in dealing with hoses and arthritis in my hands. unfortunately the melnor and hose-grip links are 'unavailable' I gave up on trying the other links. Thanks for the hose grip lead though, I found the manufacturer and bought from them directly.
That’s awesome. We emailed the hose grip company. He will have more in stock on Amazon soon - we appreciate your trying. Glad you still could get it directly. The owner said he was not prepared for so many orders
My showers are long and use alot of water but then again I use planet fitness but in the summer I'll shower outside my van so I can get back in the ac fast
I use bath houses so i can take a super long shower, Alice hates bath houses so she just takes a navy shower in the rv. We dont have an outdoor shower just a hose with a sprayer, I suppose i could hook it up on the outside of the rv so i could take a hot shower that does not go into the grey tank. I think i will try it and do a video, thanks for the idea. Larry
We use a two stage water filter that we assembled ourselves. It is two whole house filters units connected together. The first filter is a sediment filter and the second is a carbon filter. They work great and flow nicely. We drain and clean out the filter after each camping expedition and you would be shocked at how much sediment and stuff is trapped by the filters in a few days.
Question when setting up the filter any reason not to put the filter before the regulator so I don’t reduce flow before before the filter that will also reduce flow?
I dont think it will matter that much, i have tried it both ways. If the filter is getting old and blocked up, it may be better to put it before the regulator to get through the filter better. I try to replace our filter before its clogged but one bad campground water supply can mess up a filter in one week. It’s amazing how bad campground water can be that comes from a well and has not been filtered before the spigot. Larry
Thanks for this great information including the specific products; very helpful! I see people using a 20 micron filter at the spigot in addition to the filter in the wet bay. How would that be beneficial? It seems that I would be changing two filters every 6 months instead of just one filter.
We dont drink water from our fresh tank or city water connection so the stock filter is fine. I think it is a good Idea to have a special filter for drinking water only. I have health problems so it isn’t worth the risk, we just buy gallon jugs of water at Publix, 86 cents each. Larry
you use a pressure regulator to prevent blowing hoses, fittings, and valves apart. Doesn't the black tank flush have the same type of hoses and clamps? Why not put the regulator first on the faucet to protect alllllll of your camper?
That is a good point, I have always wanted max pressure going to the flush port to clean the tank better, the flush port is always open so it can never build up pressure, even if it is coming out at 150 psi it shouldn’t damage the flush port plumbing. Larry
This WAS REALLY GOOD INFORMATION! I Very much like some of your suggestions. We have been Weekend Warriors for 6 years now. We have about half of these items. But I like the RV Hose Grip And the Black Water Flow Meter! We also fill our Black tank closed and fill about 1/2 way as a second dump. We usually have to go inside and read our RELIABLE meter which is impossible to read from outside. I am going to look for a similar product with a settable alarm when a set amount of gallons is passed.. Thank you!
The red grip has helped Larry so much. It’s a small company - they sold out on Amazon at one point 😆 Too bad RVs don’t have quality meters - just another way they save money? Thanks for watching and the compliment. Keep enjoying your weekends 🤗
A most excellent and helpful video. I do the same as you but without the handy tools you demonstrated. I will purchase those items and really appreciate your sharing. My first time seeing you and have subscribed. Could not get the hose connect from Amazon $50+ from another source.
Glad you found us. And thanks for subscribing. Yes - we emailed owner. Our video apparently took him by surprise Glad you still found it. He’s going to put more on Amazon when he gets back to town
Funny. Larry is working on adding those RIGHT NOW! Our Starlink is a bit iffy. But better than no signal like other campers here. Check our links to our stores in the description 🤗 They are on Etsy NOW. eBay soon
I've seen many people recommend a separate hose for the black flush but no one has offered a logical reason. It carries the same water as the dedicated fresh water hose but to a different connection. The black water in the tank would have to climb the internal pipe and then back into the hose, against the flowing water, to contaminate the hose. What am I missing? thanks
The most important thing is use a dedicated hose when hooking to a dump station flush outlet, those are non-potable water usually and people do nasty stuff at dump stations, I have see people stick the dump station hose up their sewer outlet to wash it out. But technically water can back up from the black tank if you fill it like we do, the flush sprayer in the tank is not at the top of the tank like you would think. Larrry
I used to use those same QD’s on all my connections. But I found they messed with my pressure regulator settings. QD’s increase the back pressure caused by the built in springs. The pressure drop increases with each QD you use. Have you experienced this issue? Great idea for using your own anti siphon valve on the black hose. Most black tank rinse lines have them but you never know if one fails. Good idea.
Sweet, great info and we put a few of those things in our Amazon cart. On the 3D printed holders... were they on Thingiverse or did you design? I have 2 3D printers but I can't design worth a darn! 🙂
Larry likes to have the water pressure regulator attached to spigot on my splitter because we don’t have the room in the wet bay. And it’s designed for outside. So no reason not to
SUPER GREAT VIDEO! We've been RVing for over 50 years and I've tried to think of everything to avoid as many problems as possible. I still learned alot from your ideas and experiences. Thank you for sharing this youtube video. Wishing you the best and safe travels!
I bought the hose grip. It is terrific. I added a water flow on\off valve at the camper end with a water meter. It’s easier than running back to the on\off valve on the splitter.
Thank you Larry and Alice for this great video! It’s great learning how to your water system. I like when shows how to and what is better to use for your water hookups from the hose to the regulator. I would get all of the above for my hose. Thank you Larry for these tips. Hope you both have fun and safe travels. See you soon!
I am on my 3rd different water meter that leaked the very first time I tried it. The last one has better ratings than the Rainpoint that you use. But i guess i am going to try that one now
Thank you I like your idea with the Y connector we just bought a new travel trailer and are getting rv accessories before we start camping so this helped
Thank you very much for the encouraging comment we are trying something new, my goal is to try to be entertaining while telling our story, and Alice is learning how to edit videos like this. Larry
Good question. I want as high pressure as I can get in the black tank sprayer to help clean the tank Also, the black tank flush is never closed so pressure never builds up
Great video! I had bad experiences with quick connects long ago and gave up. But I think I’ll try these. I also use splitters, one at each end, with an expanding hose between. I’ve loved them for lightweight and tiny to pack, but have wondered if best to put the inline filter at the spigot end to keep less stuff out of the whole hose setup, or at the other end close to the RV considering there’s always a little residual every time you disconnect to move, and that can cause buildup.. which the filter being at the RV end could catch better… dilemma..
I have had no luck with the brass quick connectors they are more expensive and always leak a little bit. Lots of people put the filter at the spigot end when i used one i kept it in the wet bay. Larry
The owner said he was going to get it back on Amazon. If not, check the website. It’s a small company. Found it with hose here: technorv.com/products/hose-grip-i
I have used a splitter setup like yours however, I been to camp grounds with the water spigot almost at ground level. Some do this if there is a possibility of freezing. With spigots set that low it is almost impossible to connect a splitter as you described. To get around this I have used a 90 degree brass connector on the spigot and then connect the splitter setup to the brass connector. A short flexible hose also works but one has to be careful the short does not kink. A reinforced hose also might work but at times they don’t bend enough. One thing you might try is a 4way connector. One for the water supply, one for the black tank and two for what ever. The unhorsed outlet is good for washing you hands.
Those are great ideas, i should keep a 90 degree connector just in case, I want to get the hose grip with the 6 inch hose as an option. I thought about getting the 4 way splitter but it was more expensive and im cheap, haha. Larry
Awesome. Thanks. Larry has really worked hard to get a system that’s easy and works for us. And we appreciate using the links. It helps us a bit but doesn’t cost you anything extra 🤗
I love all your recommendations. However I have been to some campgrounds, esp here in Canada, where the water spigot in the campground is below ground and you have a 2" gap to attach the water hose. As a result I use one of those adapters that has the wire around the junction to prevent kinks.
Yes one of the Hose grips with the 6 inch hose would be perfect. Many of the campground we have stayed at provincial parks didnt have a water outlet, but i am going to get on of the 6 inch ones just in case. Larry
I have this setup that is the best advice that I see in a rv video. It has been so easy to do the water set up. I highly recommend it. The red knob makes it easy to connect and disconect.
What products have you been using in your tanks? You said that the tank sensors do not work. The one I bought used didn’t but does now. You should not use Happy Camper or those other products that claim to breakdown the contents. Your tanks are holding tanks, not septic tanks. Totally different situation. Before you go on the road, put 1/3 tank of water, black and gray, mix 1 cup of Borax in warm water and dump in each. Add 1/4 cup dawn, washing machine detergent, or dishwashing detergent. Leave it in your tank until you need to dump. After a few times, the struvite that has formed on tour black tank will be gone. Never use bar soap. You are putting soap scum in tour gray tank. If it’s hard, it’s soap. If it’s liquid, it’s detergent. Toilet paper? Again, not a septic tank. Use whatever you want.
Great video with many ideas to solve and speed water connections. We also have a Grand Design trailer with a similar water inlet bay. Instead of using a short flexible connector at the water inlet, I use a 90-degree brass elbow, which is never removed. A small pressue regulator is also connected there. The quick connect fitting on the faucet is awesome. It saves getting out the coiled hose and spayer.
I agree a 90 degree elbow will help take some of the stress off of the water inlet. I have quick connects on all hose connections, helps speed up set up and break down times, much faster just snapping a hose end to end when packing it up instead of screwing it to itself. Larry
I noticed that you do not have a pressure regulator on the black flush hose. I do not trust the connections to my black tank flush to be able to handle some of the insane pressures I have seen at some campgrounds. I use my old cheap Camco preset pressure regulator to hopefully prevent the hose popping off the tank. It is always attached to the black tank flush hose. Having that hose "pop off" would be an unpleasant job. You gave me a lot of great ideas. Thank you.
I think of the flush as an open-ended setup. I never open my water to the flush until I open the tank release, so the only back-pressure is the spray head connected to the other end of the flush line. We see it “stop up” for a minute sometimes, but some water pressure/weight will build behind the kids’ TP clog and clear they way in a couple minutes or less of flushing.
That’s a great idea, i should probably put the regulator before the splitter to regulate the other hose also, but it may be a more awkward connection to the spigot and hose grip. I will check out what that like. Larry

@@joycerowell7586 Joyce, glad we could help. Quick connects and sure grip make all the difference
Alice
I really feel your pain in dealing with hoses and arthritis in my hands. unfortunately the melnor and hose-grip links are 'unavailable' I gave up on trying the other links. Thanks for the hose grip lead though, I found the manufacturer and bought from them directly.
That’s awesome. We emailed the hose grip company.
He will have more in stock on Amazon soon - we appreciate your trying.
Glad you still could get it directly. The owner said he was not prepared for so many orders
Hey chief. I am going to buy the hose grip. Question is, how do I get rid of the extension hose to set my water connection rig like yours?
They sell a couple of varieties with small hoses included like a right angle one we use. larry
Larry

We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.
If? You aren’t going to make them anymore?
We use a two stage water filter that we assembled ourselves. It is two whole house filters units connected together. The first filter is a sediment filter and the second is a carbon filter. They work great and flow nicely. We drain and clean out the filter after each camping expedition and you would be shocked at how much sediment and stuff is trapped by the filters in a few days.
Great tips. Thank you.
Glad we could help
I always run a campco inline filter before me regulator. I don't know if it helps the life experience of the reg, but I like to think so.
It’s always good to use a pre filter.
This is all great info. I'm new to the whole rv set up process. This was a big help. Thank you

Haha. I think I have just about everything you listed here now. I don’t have it all setup yet but that’s next. 😊
Awesome. Let us know how you like the set up
Every fifth wheel I have owned has a one way valve in the black flush line. I think that is pretty much standard
Yes they all should have a one way valve, but the ones that come in rvs break easily and its good to have double protection. Larry
Sir, that house water filter. Does it filter all water that goes to the RV? Hot water... City water.... pump water... ?
Filters all water entering the RV. However, we drink bottle water still - especially with Larry’s health issues
Great Video, Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Larry
I take a Navy shower, and the wife takes a Hollywood shower. Go figure.
I take Navy showers when not on full hookups - which used to be majority of the time until our frame bent/broke and is marked salvage 😔
Alice
This is so helpful - thank you - but please lighten up on Alice huh... let her take a long shower once a month 🤣
🤣 When we are on full hookup, I get my long showers. Thanks for sticking up for me 🤗

my only comment is that IMO a 3 or 4 way splitter is best instead of only a 2 way... 🤠
I agree I have had lots of times where would love another available spigot. Lar
Great video ! I’m new to this, so thank you for the useful information.
Glad we could help. Lots of quick tips in our shorts, too
The fail connect happens at the connection to the water supply. All Junk~!
Most campgrounds have messed up anti-syphon connections that are messed up.
You work with what you have
Thanks for this great information including the specific products; very helpful!
Larry
@@DownsizingMakesCents we don’t have health issues but I don’t want to get sick from the campground water

@@DownsizingMakesCents I did use your links thank you!
you use a pressure regulator to prevent blowing hoses, fittings, and valves apart.
Larry
@@DownsizingMakesCents flush ports do have nozzles on the end and will restrict flow, increasing pressure. good luck
It’s a small company - they sold out on Amazon at one point 😆
Too bad RVs don’t have quality meters - just another way they save money?
Thanks for watching and the compliment.

Larrry
@@DownsizingMakesCents that'll do! Thanks
Hands down the BEST video❣️ You’re a blessing!!! 🙏😇 Thank you for helping me figure all this out!!!

Good idea.
We have had no issues with our pressure with this system.

Why don’t you put the water pressure control in the wet bay?
Larry likes to have the water pressure regulator attached to spigot on my splitter because we don’t have the room in the wet bay. And it’s designed for outside. So no reason not to
SUPER GREAT VIDEO! We've been RVing for over 50 years and I've tried to think of everything to avoid as many problems as possible. I still learned alot from your ideas and experiences. Thank you for sharing this youtube video. Wishing you the best and safe travels!
What a compliment to receive 🤗 50 years. Wow
I bought the hose grip. It is terrific. I added a water flow on\off valve at the camper end with a water meter. It’s easier than running back to the on\off valve on the splitter.
The hose grip really helps my old hands get a good grip. Larry
Go one step further, and get rid of those plastic fittings. Spend money on high-quality brass.
I have not had luck with the brass ones they always leak, these plastic ones have worked great for 3 years no leaks and not one has broken. Larry

Should you have a regulator on the black fill hose or will the black tank flush accept higher pressures?
Good question.
I want as high pressure as I can get in the black tank sprayer to help clean the tank
Also, the black tank flush is never closed so pressure never builds up
Great video!
Larry
Where can you find the hose grip these days ?
Larry

Larry

Very helpful. Yes I learned a few things and also ideas. Thank you.
Always great to read we helped 🤗
That’s a lot of great information. Thank you
@@DownsizingMakesCents hopefully it will work for you too.
Larry
Great video. I have been camping in MHs since the mid '70 and have learned some new tricks. Thank you.
Always good to read. Keep enjoying it
I enjoyed watching this video again. I need to get more quick connects.
We couldn’t get enough quick connects 😉
Did you watch again because of our latest short?
As a new RV owner the Renator RV Water Pressure Regulator failed us.
How did it fail? Larry
@@DownsizingMakesCents Plenty of youtube videos on how they dont't work
I noticed that you do not have a pressure regulator on the black flush hose.
Larry
