I just installed the Mr12Volt in my 981 alongside you thanks to this video, which gave me the confidence to tackle this job in the first place. Thank you! I would have been lost without it.
I went through the same pain trying to install the joyauto CarPlay in my 2012 Boxster S with serious XM. I also realized that after removing the XM module, I lost sound from the FM tuner and gave up. I also didn’t want to risk crushing the OEM ribbon cable from the CD player. Although I didn’t think to remove it but I really wanted to keep the pcm as original as possible. Finding a location for the module was also challenging. I was going to mount it in the same location as yours but outside the carpet as I don’t believe I had a void underneath. Anyhow, great video. Thanks Dino
This instructional video is a must-watch for Porsche 991.1 owners seeking to modernize their infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. The host provides a comprehensive walk-through of the installation process, showcasing the integration of a third-party motherboard into the existing PCM unit. With clear visuals and detailed explanations, this video serves as an invaluable resource for those considering this upgrade to enhance their Bose stereo system.
Thank you for doing this video. Due to the negatives mentioned, I will not be going with this unit. However, if it wasn't for your review I wouldn't have known that. The fact that you did not get the Tech support needed, and what you did get was delayed by a day, is a major negative. The second major negative would be your phone stays connected to the car unless you lock your doors. Then there's the no CD player due to removal for clearance. I do have some CDs I like to listen to, but more importantly I don't like having a look of a CD player in the car, but really no CD player. Now to continue my hunt, I do have JoyAuto on my list, but there are some bugs there too. I really just want to have a reverse camera...I usually listen to my exhaust and the feedback from the motor. Thanks again!
@@Grendelsbane I purchased the JoyAuto and spoke with James via email and text. He responds in decent time and will answer any questions. However, with the weather being so hot and humid, I'll be doing the install in November sometime. Customer service is a major factor for me...if you can't get answers to your questions from the seller then something is a mist for sure.
Having a dac is so much better than not having it... i guess the ipod input has it? Cuz theres no way naked digital audio sounds better than analog audio from digital sources.... im a little experienced in hifi so i know my audio! Feel free to ask or correct me
so i found if you remove the plastic housing on the sirius antenna and just plug in the connector with out it its actually pretty secure and i just added a dab of hot glue to make sure it stays put then everything all fits and the board will sit down flat. hope that helps.
@@PIFDIY Also, if purchased through the US authorized dealer, he now sends standoffs that are long enough to clear the connector. Just put mine together today
Thank you so much for the detailed video, I'm eager to see how it goes with the back-up camera. I've been looking at this unit for my 2012 C2S but I'm wondering if it does manage the rearview camera on its own or does it switch over to the PCM (as the Joyeauto and Isudar do), that would be a blocker for me due to my PCM3.1 having hardware rev. 3, which is locked to firmware v3.43 and won't support a camera interface like the NAV-TV
I’m curious about the TV icon which activates CarPlay. I don’t recall seeing it when pressing the source button. What’s the purpose of the TV icon from Porsche ?
First off, good job on the joyauto. Good that you figured everything out and found a place for the external box. So, the Mr12Volt puts the audio signal right on the optical bus (MOST). This is their claim to fame having better quality audio by keeping everything digital. The PCM's TV input uses MOST. Our PCM's must have that functionality built in for use in other models, but the Mr12V system probably enables it to work in all models.
Where did you buy your Mr12V? I’m in Ontario Canada. I returned my joyauto as I couldn’t get it to work at all. I wish these devices had a power LED. I didn’t notice your unit having an LED power light either. Are the setup instructions clear?
Hi, I went with the Mr. 12 Volt system because it outputs a digital signal directly to the MOST bus. The other options are analog, requiring an extra conversion which decreases sound quality. I'm really happy with the sound, which has been a complaint from competitors systems. Also, my iphone connects extremely fast to the Mr. 12 Volt system and the connection is rock solid, even on all day road trips.

Great idea about the box over the shifter to create a shelf for PCM! Bravo!

I am in the same boat. If you have pulled the trigger, what system/kit did you go with and how do you like it?

Do the multifunction controls on the steering wheel work in CarPlay apps to control volume and skip songs in Spotify, Apple Music, etc?

@@Dino-987.2 I bought directly from their website - www.mr12volt.com/. Setup was simple. And I found plenty of information on web forums.
What made you go this route and not the latest joyeauto unit which requires much less wiring/equipment?

Thanks, but it seems a bit harder than others.
Were you able to get the reverse camera to work?
I'm hoping to get to that in the next couple weeks. Will definitively make a video.
Did you fit the camera ?
Hi, I included a link to the camera install in the description of this video. Thanks!
Dang, I cant use this one I have the Digital TV installed on my 981S
Wow, didn't even know that was an option! You must be the only one!
@@PIFDIY Yes I optioned everything that didn't remove a different option. 🤪.
Thanks!
It’s easier just to sell the car and get a newer year at this point wow. All this for CarPlay lol
