Plenty of familiar faces, just can't put names to them. Herby Pyne's wedding and my father and Doctor McGavin are to be seen, plus many who made that pre-new town so wonderful. As I grew up in Madeley in the 50's & 60's I can recount so many happy memories, from the annual carnival and every June the N. B. Davies fun fair on South Drive field. Then along came Telford!
Number 225 Photo. At front right is George Haynes ( my uncle) and next to him his wife Florence Haynes nee Richards.George was a miner--overseer.Was a member of Madeley High Street Methodist Chapel and was in their choir but also sang at many other events in area. They had one son Kenneth.
Hello Im currently doing a project on vernacular photography and the found image. Madeley is my hometown and I'm interested in looking into it's history. At the moment Im about to go through my Grandads collection of images. WIth these images I will go to the site where the photograph was taken, take a present photograph and then merge them together to see how the site has changed. This collection of photographs are brilliant. Are they yours? Or just images that you found? I would probably need permission to use them. Do you know if the Madeley History Group still meet up at the Jubilee House? At some point in the future I would be interested in contacting them. I'm particularly interested in old photographs regarding the Anstice Memorial, my Grandad was a member of this gentlemans club until it's resent closure.
