Up here in Canada I got an '05 Ion with 303,000KM (188,000 miles). She still goes strong and I think I can still get more miles on her, I'm very happy with it. It isn't the flashiest but she does the job very well. There is no shame in an older car. Every time I see an older car drive by, I don't think "What a shitbox" I have respect for the guy or woman because they are saving a lot.
Keep your saturn my brothers and sisters!
I drive a 2007 ION since 2009. No big issues, just the hood clear coat peeled. Going to keep it since new cars are so expensive.
Just bought a 2006 ion today with 85k miles for a wopping $1200. It was an older ladies daily driver. Runs great
How in God's name are people wo lucky with prices like this?
@@CrumCringle she was my dads neighbor. She was taking care of an older guy that passed away. She ended up taking his vehicle and had no need for the car. Inwas able to jump on it before she listed it anywhere
My 2004 Saturn Ion is still going.
I have a 2007 ion 2, it’s a great deal buying a reliable car that save you money in all. I improved the look of my car well. It’s great car, almost 200,000! Miles and running strong. It’s a shame that GM and ressesion had to ruin this brand. It probably would of been one of the best.
Agreed Carlos, they are awesome cars especially for the money! What killed the Saturn was it was to expensive to build. Plastic is made from petroleum and it proved to expensive to manufacture. Yes sad we lost another American car brand.
my 2006 saturn ion has 130000 still running amazing
The Saturn company started in 1985, but the first production year was actually 1990. I previously owned a 1992 SL2 and still drive a 2005 Ion 2.
nice. how many miles have you got on the 05?
@@mcyoutuber6988 Only around 124K.
Have you changed the timing belt yet?? My ex-wife is Terrible; HORRIBLE when it comes to maintenance, especially since our dealership's gone! She let her Vue 2.2 timing belt lapse and you can figure out the rest.
I got my '03 for free from a frustrated young woman. It was a no start. I have no special code equipment. In a dream I thought it could be the IGNITION CONTROL MUDULE.
I GOT ONE AT A JUNK YARD FOR $40.
ITS BEEN MY DAILY DRIVER UP UNTIL I GOT MY 1998 HONDA CIVIC FOR FREE - MY SUMMER DRIVER.
SATURN IS MY WINTER DRIVER.
BOTH HAVE 220,000 MILES ON THEM.
Both are excellent.
That's awesome! You sound like my kind of guy! A car guy fixing up cars! Not bad a FREE car! Also, dang 220k and still running strong! Keep it going!
Of course I can't find it now but a cheap computer part turned out to be the problem in a no-start XJ Cherokee. He took it off the previous owners' hands for all of $500 like 5 years ago and that Jeep's still going like the Energizer Bunny!
Running across this makes me miss my Ion. Had a 5-speed '07 Ion 2. Once I got used to the gauges in the center I loved them. Handled great and was really good on gas. It was a good car until I broke the transmission, which was totally my fault. Had 240k miles on it, half of which from me, so needless to say it took a bit of abuse quite well. I find it very hard not to "play around" when having a manual, even if the car is nowhere near "fast."
Don't ride those manuals hard, and they will pay you back ten times over.
Have a 2003 ion. Got 160k on it with the 2.2 and it runs great. I expect to get 300k out of it.
When/if the "check engine" light comes on, have it checked out IMMEDIATELY!!!
Saturn ION 3 has a white gauge cluster, my '05 Saturn ION 2 has a sunroof, power windows, locks,. spoiler, etc., but a black cluster. 16" tires on were available on the ION 3
I've owned many Saturns and they have been great! Sad to see another US auto brand gone.
I may or may not have raced a Civic with an ION 2.4 liter. It was tied until the VTEC kicked in.
Why get rid of the first
I don't have a sunroof but I dohave the spoiler and mine is a 2
Ladies and gentlemen, if you see my message, I give you great advice. These cars or any Saturn brand car are not the best on the market, but don't forget that under the plastic there is a metal cage.So they are completely non-plausible They are only covered on the outside But that's a good point for gasoline economy. And it is anti-shock And another best option is that they are not expensive to maintain. Another good option is that they will take you anywhere, it is just a matter of maintaining It is better to have a car than a new one because today's cars are super expensive and it is not worth it because later you also get the pros.Better to have a Saturn. I have 5 and I am happy with them and they are cheap.
Also noticed this one is manual shift. My 07 Ion is manual shift. It's likely you would hav transmission problem by now if it were manual.
Why would there be problems? Manuals are extremely reliable, especially the Getrag transmissions in these cars.
Bought my 2004 saturn 5 years ago with 149,000 miles .. its at 272,000 now and still running strong
Wow that is crazy! What motor is in it a 2.2?
We have the level 1 trim, manual windows are my only quip
If you're saying you don't like the manual windows, the way I look at it is they last a lot longer than a power window. Power options are nice until they brake.
@@cartunes6836 and they usually break when is raining, please please don't ask how I know this.
Ion only came with the 2.4 the 2.2 and the redline had the 2.0
Yes but it’s the 2.2 IL4 soooo I mean. And the Redline literally just comes with a smaller motor and a supercharger it’s not really anything special in terms of performance. It was outclassed in a matter of a year or so, the only thing it really put to shame was the SRT4 that came out the same year.
@@Vicari0usly SRT4 came a year prior and the redline and cobalt had good performance for its time especially the turbo balts. It’s not going to beat no aluminum v8 stock.
There is no 2.5 eco-tech at this point and it was never in a Saturn. It’s a 2.2.
Yeah my bad, there was a 2.4 though
Can u use gm parts
There may have been slight changes in the motor depending on what GM car you get it out of, so it’s safe to do research based on the your car and the car your grabbing parts from.
The First and Second Generation Saturn SL and SC's are unique! Other GM parts are incompatible with them. Even the transmissions. If you have a SOHC engine, you have to use the tranny for that specific engine. In other words, you cannot and should not swap a tranny for a SOHC with a tranny for a DOHC! A mechanic accidentally did and it was a mess!!!😷😟😱
What would the insurance look like Bc it’s plastic
Insurance was reasonable.
The plastic is facade not structure, it does not effect safety whatsoever. This is built on a space frame like newer Corvettes or the Audi A8. Most modern cars are semi-monocoques(unibodies) so the exterior panels are structural, but this car and it's predecessor, the S-series, are quite different.
Parts May be hard to get. That may affect insurance prices?
Some drunk driver swiped my '03 Ion 3 on the ENTIRE Drivers' side. At the time I had been going to my body shop guy for like 5 years. He said the plastic panels I had were easier to work with or paint or something like that.😎😎
Take better notes next time
Suzuki Reno (Chevrolet Lacetti) better.
