    Sir Merrell your find is priceless in my opinion! ,apiece of History that will never forget, i myself would never sell it!, and like you i would try to find the family who it might belong too, well done sir Merrell,to me this relic is worth more then gold.

    take a small bottle of water with you to wash your finds it makes it easier to work with them happy hunting

    That Roman coin find was awesome! The other coins are nice, but I think that ecclesiastic seal is marvelous. Too bad it was only half. Oh well. Maybe you'll find the other half! You'll give the farmer some cheese? Truffle cheese? ;)

    Bill, That field would just lend itself to flying a drone over it and see if you can correlate your finds with old roads or structures.

    If you coat the end of your pin pointer in clear epoxy it will keep it from wearing out as fast. I put 3 coats of epoxy on mine. You only need to coat the first 4 inches (10 cm) of the business end. Re-coat the tip as needed. If you coat the handle you will never be able to change the battery or push the on/off button. Use only epoxy that has no metal content. Mix some epoxy first and test it with the pin pointer for metal content. Do not use it if it interacts with the pin pointer.

    The item you had at the end....see if it pairs up to your seal matrix. It appear that the angled break on the back of the seal would pair to the angled break of the unidentifiable item. It may be the handle for the seal.

      Well you might be on to something there. I've got a different fragment from the same field which looks like the spherical end of such an amulet. It is also in bronze. I'm thinking its Roman in any event.

    You appear to find a disproportionate number of Napoleon Trois coins. Is there a reason why those coins exist or survive in such large numbers?

      They are big bronze targets and hard to miss. Very like English pennies and half pennies that get found by the lorry load

    I love watching your lot larking about in mud and dirt, but I wonder why no one seems to get themselves a head cam, so you can use 2 hands to present the pieces you find. It annoys me that you always seem to be struggling with the one hand, because you are holding the camera with the other. Get a headcam dude, you know it makes sense.
