This did actually have dual engines. One was a regular piston engine and one was a gas turbine engine for added power/redundancy. Very cool really.
I think the smaller piston engine would be directly coupled to the hydraulic pump, which would make sense because it needs hydraulics to aim but turbines are very thirsty and noisy.
@@Pow3llMorgan The piston engine was meant for idling, slow maneuvering and such. The turbine was for added power when it was needed/wanted. AFAIK, either engine was able to power all the systems, if not to maximum effect.
@@vrmousse Almost correct. The rear driver could only drive backwards and use the radio. No shooting or forward driving for that guy.
yeah it was originally made for 2 crew but some in the army were worried about one person trying to drive away with their buddy's brains all over them, so apparently 2 people can handle that a bit better. (most other western nation's doctrines had at least 3 and usually 4 per tank, for the reasons listed above)
Except the transmission was right at the front, so any shots that defeated the 40mm frontal armour and make it through to knock out one of the engines are highly likely to wreck the transmission on the way through, which would effectively neuter both engines.
It would also be stuck in an exposed position and unable to reverse to withdraw behind the ridge or berm it was firing from.

@@Mithirael They also need to make the engines each a separate module. If the transmission is still up and it loses 1 of the engines, it should still be able to move off of the 1 other engine.
All they'd have to do on the technical side is apply the correct powers to each engine, so the mobility isn't as good if say the turbine was knocked out but not the diesel.
@@iseeu721 I think its more of a problem with how the game works... There's probably no way of doing that without rewriting the fundamental game code (else they would have done so as it's a well-known feature of the tank).
Perhaps if they add APUs in the future, they could use that system to implement that.

Fun fact. The fire rate during that glitch at 06:15 is pretty close to what the S-Tank managed in real life where it had a reload time of 2.8 seconds.

It's got two engines, an opposed diesel engine and a turbine engine. It is somewhat like the naval CODAG propulsion, where the diesel engine is used for low speed while the turbine is added at high speed for that extra power.

@@justanotherasian4395 Oh, I thought it was the other way around. That wasn't what I was referring to though. Doing a dual engine system that combines the output of both engines is rather complex from what I know (which admittedly isn't much) and I'd imagine it'd be even harder to engineer such a thing considering that there are two wildly different engines used. It just seems that they probably wouldn't have the budget to make it awfully reliable.

Both are engines, it has one for the hydropneumatic suspension and one to send power to the transmission. But i think the option to use both on the transmission does exist to allow it to have a higher mobility, although it makes it incapable of aiming.
I think from what I remember is that one is a turbine engine that runs most of the electronics and another is just a standard engine for backup or powering something I could be wrong tho also your comment was 2 years ago so this may be completely irrelevant

Not a perfect fix for hull aiming, but having key binds to brake left/right track separately helps during fine adjustment.
Just need to brake the track on the side you would be turning towards.

For some reason I find the 103C to be pretty tanky, mostly because at its Br the APFSDS has less pen than HEAT in those early modern Br’s. So overall the armor is better but also worse.

The "Stank /S-tank or the STRV103 was a formidable vehicle and really made for the Swedish Nature/environment. light farmlands/plains and forrestation.there it is was almost impossible to spot and hit, since it's a nimble lil thing. I know since I did my military service on those things.. and that was back in the days Sweden actually had a defense force to be proud of and back then we had 2 tank regiments in my province.

Because it has a volatile chemical inside it that is ignited in a compression chamber in order to direct and accelerate a projectile in a desired direction. This is called a casing and when coupled with said projectile, we tend to call it a shell or a round. I assume you know what ammunition means as you used the term a few times in the video, so I'll leave that out, but yeah, that's basically how they work. 👍
103's are all or nothing vehicles - either you're invulnerable or you're food.
I learned to turn off hull aim while driving as the smaller movements slow you down dramatically.
If you need to move while engaging a threat, try to use the lower speed 'cruise control' rather than either full speed or manual movement. The hull aim system seems to have an easier time working with your movement that way.

This is why you bring some HESH in British tanks... If someone is sitting at range like that, you can lob some shots onto them at range and the angle of fall will be steep enough that the angle will be negated enough for HESH to work. Then you can always just keep setting their engine on fire.
Tbh I think the spall shield and engine are over performing. I mean many tanks had spall liners but few soak up quite as much as the 103's seems to.
