"You cannot kill blackness. To much of it is wrapped in an unshakable joy. And ain't that why they think we magic in the first place. That despite every reason not to, we still smile, we still laugh, we still love, we still black, we still...."
"The first time I ever saw a man shot to death, his arms flailing wildly like he was dancing for a god he knew he was about to see. what an unholy pray his body was. " the amount of chills I got is unspeakable, along with the the film angle. Too good,
Oh my god, this poem broke me. "How political my phone calls with my mother always will be." "Despite every reason not to, we still smile." Beautiful and amazing. I will never know what it's like to face racism in all its many forms, but through art like this, I can and do begin to understand.
Sadly this feels relevant still today. Damn I love javon. My heart is so tired.. I want to be black and happy, but there’s too much work to be done and the news is always sad😔
I’m crying because every example he used was literally my childhood. The phrase I grew up around was “not matter how hard things get I will still smile because I have my family”. All I knew was happiness growing up and that’s all my family portrayed to my cousins and I. And for that I will forever be grateful for being black.
Too much of it is wrapped up in unshakable joy and ain't that why they think we're magic in the first place Beautiful gave me chills with how inspirational this was
Yes we still are, I begun to only laugh even louder now, I am only more proud as of now, Only showing off in the new year what black beauties can really do
I listen to this piece atleast 3 times a week. So powerful. Delivery is on point. Dr.Johnson is my muthafuckin ninja and I never met him, but I knowem.

I love the way he feels what he's doing
You can hear it how his voice breaks
Every time he speaks, he speaks with so much truth and passion and emotion, and I love him and his poems so much.
how beautifully he wields words that transport you into the moment he is speaking of. Truly gifted artist ♥
