ThinMannVentures: The Tragedy of Z-Black

- I met Z Black after he was released from his last prison bid in 2014. I was introduced to him by ArchBishop Russell Davenport, a martial artist from Roosevelt Long Island, that knew and was respected by Z-Black from the time when they were young. I believe that the recorded conversation (i.e. interview) that we had that day is the first, the last and the only interview that Z-Black had ever sat down for. It is also one of the saddest stories one is likely to hear.
Z-Black’s life was indeed violent and depraved, but it was also tragic. I am grateful that I had the chance to sit with him and to hear some of the hidden details of his life that contributed to the person that he became.
I am aware that many that knew him will rush to the comment section to inform others of his ‘tendencies’ while in prison and will question why these things are not mentioned in this work. The answer is simply that we just didn’t talk about it; I didn’t ask and he didn’t tell.
This is explosive. It's easily one of the deepest videos I've ever seen. This must have been therapeutic for the brother. Thanks for making it happen and sharing. So many lost giants and geniuses in this system
I agree. The strange thing is that it took all this time for me to actually realize it; in the beginning, when I first began these interviews, I was so focused on the martial aspects of these brother's lives that I'd hear the personal bits they'd share but it would not register (with me) the way it should. So now, being older (and smarter) I've begun to go back and refocus. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
He got what he deserves at the end God don't like ugly 💯
Thx 4 this, I’m enjoyin it now. Ofc I’ve heard da ‘stories’…1 quick question cause I’m readin comments on his once ‘athletic prowess’: was the brother tall? As in 6’5” plus?
Thx,
May he RIP…
6’5” would be about right. I’m 6’1” and he was more than a little taller than me.
U got more interviews wit him or jus dis part?
This was phenomenal, Thinmann. That trauma make monsters out of some of us..sad, but real.
Peace and thanks for continuing to take the time to check these pieces and to offer your comment(s).

I have heard nothing but horror stories about this man since I was a teenager. I heard how much of a gladiator and rapist he was. I never saw how he looked or heard him speak until now. It is so sad to hear the origins of his pain and the continued pain all his life. He could have been a hall of fame boxer. Thankyou for the interview.
You from Long Island?
Yeah he definitely could have boxes, he could have played Football too.

Damn I was with Z like 2012 or 2014 we was in 72 together & I turned myself in but went loaded with tobacco, weed ! He happened to turn himself in too & he too had a few things but was missing like papers & matches but I had all that & I share with everyone so everyone can live a lil you know ? He was a cool dude. I’ve heard all the stories too but I’m from the Brooklyn so I’ve heard these kinda things before. im not gonna lie tho, I made sure I always watched his moves just to be safe but he was cool while we was there i heard he got killed so I guess RIP to Z. He a legend no matter how you look at him
POWERFUL thinman. Keep up the rest work!
As a child in Long Beach, NY, whenever brothers discussed the “superstars of the block,” Z Black was often used as a comparative benchmark for combat. Now as a grown man and advocate for community and Black male development, I view him as an example of our failure to empathize and acknowledge the pain of young Black boys and men. We can change the narrative. Blessings and RIP for your truth, Z Black.
Thank you for taking the time to view but for also sharing your words/experience/insight Doc.
Well said Pat. This is Carla and Norman brother, I went to school with iEdwin.
This was a horrible person that did terrible acts as a grown man. Hopefully rip don't mean in peace
@@kevinlast3874Thing is God knows what he is doing & us humans better than we know ourselves on average. So RIP or not isn't going to alter where or where not God already knows one belongs on the other side or afterlife

The Reason you see our Black boys and Girls carrying on the way they are... Old Head said it BEST. Good interview
I started boxing in 1980 at 6 years old. I was taught on the streets in Far Rockaway by prison boxers that knew Z-Black. Everything he is saying is 100% true. In fact, he is being EXTREMELY modest in describing his skill set. I know MONSTERS who ran prisons in NY that told me, they would never fight Z-Black. He was a super athlete. Bench pressing over 600lbs, calisthenics master with a punch that would kill....literally

This is really sad. He still had light in his eyes after all that trauma, hatred, and violence. This is why it’s important to love on young boys and teach them anger management. Yes, he was an offender but at the end of the day, he was still that hurt/vulnerable child trying to find his place in the world. I hope he was forgiven by God and can finally rest.
Tell that to the grown men who fell victim!!, I’m sure hearing his story doesn’t make them feel not one once better about being raped!Miss me with the bullshit, what if it was YOUR son that he raped???

Yeah that's facts, both in Long Beach AND Hempstead. I'm not gonna cap, I was terrified of dude. I remember he took my brother weed and my bro was like " oh hell nah poo poo(another one of his nicknames) you gonna beat my ass but we fighting for this weed," and they started laughing, him and my bro was cool, but he doesn't know he's my bro.
Big facts... I'm from the velt and them Z-black stories had me scared to death to get locked up lmao😂
@misfit1nx865 shit, I live in Long Beach and this niggaz used to jump on back of the trucks with us, I used to work for highway and I was only 16. He used to ask us " yo which one of yall hustle? Who yall know hustle?" When the truck stopped at a stop sign, I got off that bitch and boated to the crib. He also used to come into the MLK center and we would run out the other exit.
I was just writing a comment about that lol all I see is praise on here no one talking about how he was a piece of shit booty bandit

Im from freeport long island Konard Harris. long beach is in the same county as me. im also sparring partners with former heavyweight chamo Sean Monaghan. I say that to say this man name has rung bells all through long island from the streets to prison. i served a few years upstate in a medium facility years ago and still Z Black name will forever ring bells. I got to meet him and speak on 72 hour reception in nassau county jail. he was huge and he didnt lie he wasnt a bully and the jail was scared to death of him. He has passed away now. R.I.P. this man was 6 foot 6 at least 350 and moved like a middle weight it was unnatural
Last story. My man popped him. My boy was 16 and he came down the block to strong arm him and his bros and my man popped him and did 3 years. They saw each other in jail and my boy was on the minor tear and and when he pulled up, ALL the minors stood up with my guy, my dude got his props and became a legend after that.

He said he wasn't a bully though🤔
Words can't express the way I feel watching Black because in the 80s Black was Around the way in the middle of the hight of the Crack era. When I first seen Black he was like the biggest black man I have ever seen I mean all black leather long trench coat and walking down Stewart Ave. I can remember him going in one of the first Crack houses there and everyone in the house jumping out of the windows dealers fleeing leaving their work on the triple beam scales and Black taking over their spot. Also remember Black would rob a few guys and some would look out for him like loney lake when Black whould come home from jail he would give Black like $5,000 so he could get on hos feet and Black would come to me and say Lil bro put this money up for me. He would give it to me because he knew I got money in the streets and he could trust I would have whenever he needed it. But it never last long because Black would spend his money less then a week having fun partying whenever he chose. I remember when him and Big H use to box at one of our Crack houses on Stewart he would let Big H hit a 100 times and be laughing and once H was done Black would say ok my turn and H would just laugh dip and say no Black stop playing. Black was a different kind of dude the Black some knew others didn't. He wasn't as a monster as some thought he was a human. I never knew the pain and hate he felt because when we were on the streets he didn't talk much just a grin on his face and Lil bro I'll see you later. I remember being in the county and I didn't get bailed out and Black seen me and he said H and them ain't come get you yet and I said no he was passed off. Also remember the correction officer seeing him talk to me they were scared to death of Black and after that they were letting me do whatever. It's so many stories I could go on for days but watching this video I can only share a few of them because he was more then just a monster. Peace Black Rest In Peace Born to soon he could have been one of the greats but like alot of us he didn't get that break Peace kk
Thank you for that; that’s the conversation I wanted to start with this clip. Anybody can speak, and have an opinion, on the obvious. Anybody can point a finger at what everybody can see, but it’s the things that are not on the surface -the intricacies- that make life, and people, interesting, real and -like you said- human. Thank you again for taking the time to add on to the conversation surrounding Zee; the people that really knew him will appreciate your words.

@salj.5459 All it takes is repentance. No matter what the deeds are. A humans view is never like The Most High.... I just heard about him yesterday in another video about the diner robbery. Then I found other stuff he was known for which ain't cool at all.. Twisted actions yes, but he said in this video he was giving bullies the blues. With the persin in mind who violated him in his childhood..He aint treat the wise men who taught him things like that. You have to be some kind of humble & respectful human being for a real martial artist or experienced boxer to teach ya anything... You yourself probably have committed sins God will send you to hell for if you don't repent. No human on this planet is banned from The Most Highs Mercy/ Forgiveness if they sincerely repent.. Only things gaurentee we won't get the Mercy & Forgiveness is believing in false pegan diety or committing suicide.. You experience this dudes childhood pain & his experiences behind them walls you woulda harmed yourself long time ago... You can't see the forrest because of the trees... No matter what the dude did wrong in his life I don't see a grimey individual who is proud of his actions like majority of theses dumb ass just doing shit with no remorse.. Fuck what you heard & what you thought. A true believer is not always a person that lives a squre life like you...He just might make it to eternal paradise & you never will.. None of us know our final destination. None of us.. That's living the understanding of "only God can Judge me" Bump what you talking about.. Beyond that if he was used By The Most High to punish people who prey on the weak while he was living then thats another realm of understanding you can't comprehend. Oh yeah it gets deeper than deep.. And get that rafter out of your eye before you try to pull out what just might equal a straw in his.
@rickrogers951.Just a reminder that if Allah will forgive this dude then I for sure got action if I repent too. This world is twisted. If I make it to paradise or not( InshaAllah I do) I really want to see the faces of the who just "know" they are going to make it see the people they frowned upon that was actually closer to Allah than them make it..

Why ya sayin RIP to a predator
this was a great interview just wish you would've asked him why as he himself being a victim molestation why did he turn around and victimized countless ppl
Thank you. It should be noted, that my original purpose in interviewing him was the martial arts/boxing angle.
Back then, when I was doing the interviews, I was very focused on the goal, which was The Grandmasters of New York documentary, and didn’t want to get sidetracked by other issues and angles.
I did, however, know that Zee’s story was bigger than martial arts and boxing so I knew I’d come back to it eventually. This is why I edited and uploaded this piece approximately 10 years after it was recorded.
I have a lot of footage like that (from the other masters) that I’ve been going back over, since I never intended for my channel to be exclusively about martial arts.
Thanks for checking it out; I’ve considered doing a follow up with some of the background behind the interview and also include some of the people that knew him (mostly from prison).
So what happen with Sha Sha n Hollywood???
I was in prison with z black clin 1991
