When I was a girl my father was a Professor of Chemistry at OSU and every Saturday this was part of our lives. The Ohio State Marching Band is so legendary, and as you see with good reason. Thank you so much for reacting to them.
Greetings from Columbus , Ohio , home of The Ohio State University and it's fabulous marching band ... so much fun watching you watching our local celebrities (lol) do their thing ! These kids are as prized as the football team ... they work so hard !

You'll also remember the whole band is in college and when they graduate they leave the band how about every 4 to 5 years they've totally replace the whole band with new members
I loved being in marching band. It was a great time. Especially just spending time with your friends traveling to games on the bus or hanging around in the down times. I'm also happy I participated before everyone had a smartphone. ;) Some memories are better left to the mind instead of digital history.

I grew up within walking distance of the OSU stadium, and I had a season ticket to the OSU football games when I was 7 years old. (My parents and sisters are all alumnae of the university.) One interesting thing about the OSU band is that it is composed of all BRASS and percussion instruments---no woodwinds (no flutes, clarinets, saxaphones, etc.). The script OHIO formation is a long standing tradition since the 1930s. In a normal performance, there is just one, OHIO; but once a year, the alumni band returns and they are able to do THREE or FOUR OHIOs on the field. It stirs my soul every time I see it.
Recky and Carol, when you come to visit the USA, please stop in the Midwest and catch a game in Columbus and root on the Buckeyes. The stadium, the band, the campus. You will love Ohio, Columbus & THE Ohio State University. Recky will love Skyline Chili and White Castle. Too many people visiting the USA only see NYC, Miami or Las Vegas. Our country has so much to offer in the middle. Go Buckeyes!!!!
I marched in a band in high school. It is amazing how counting steps and knowing when to turn makes these amazing routines. I loved my years of doing this!!

I was in our high school marching band and orchestra. During football season we performed a new half time show every week! Of course, the shows weren’t at the level of the Ohio State band, but they were not bad. One of my best high school memories! 😁
I grew up in Ohio, so seeing "script OHIO" and the senior members of the band who get to "dot the i" still makes me emotional. It was wonderful to see a tuba player get to be the dot on the i. It is amazing to see the marching band of Ohio State. They are legend.
Marching band starts in high school. In Texas, they start practice in July. First is halftime shows during games. After the season, marching competition begins. I raised two band weenies (their term), and my oldest granddaughter was in band, the youngest is in band now, freshman season, with my grandson coming along in two years. They learn discipline, hard work, teamwork. Both of my daughters favorite teacher was mr. Kelly, the band director. He was a real hardass but he produced one of the best bands in Texas year after year.
I'm from ohio, and they started teaching us how to march in 6th grade and we start working with the marching band in 7th and 8th, learning as well as helping out the high school band.. as aides.

I live 2 hours north of Columbus, ohio. Always wanted to see a game there. There are SO many very good marching bands. Each have their own style. But they all take it serious and all the hard work. They practice even harder than the athletes. Even the high school band. Glad you enjoy all the things "WE" take for granted here. Just tried the Funyon wavy potato chips. They were very good.
They aren't called the TBDBITL for nothing. All shows are for memory as for the music and the choreography. The red shirts that surrounded the band is the Alumni band. That comes to "March one more time". The Script Ohio is normally in Preshow program. A ranking of College bands had Ohio State as the #1 band in the country.

It is titled "EPIC PATRIOTIC Drone Show (1,000 Drones!) Fourth of July Show". There are many drone shows, but this is my favorite. Another great reaction from our favorite Swedes. Well done again.
As a VERY BIG Fan of the Michigan Wolverine,. Whom last year took home the National Championship. I'm a fan of The Ohio State matching band. Yes we are a 'huge.rivalry with this team. A HUGE RIVLERY. Forest Gump is an iconic movie which will be around for many years to come.
The only ones that know them as TBDBITL are the band members themselves. Ok so they make formations th at look like a stick man running or walking, I will give them an ounce of credit for that, But while they're matching, their music sounds like it's coming out of an old Victoria record player, skipping notes and parts of songs!
As a native Californian (now a young 75) growing up watching the big college rivalries, I honestly grew to favor Michigan (sorry) over OU. (It was those Wolverine helmets I fell in love with at 19, lol.) However always gotta give props to OU's Marching band - I think they were/are still the best. Yes others have their own unique styles like the HBCU schools but still give #1 to OU for their Marching band.
OSU, my west coast friend. We also have an OU (Ohio University) and it's different. Or if you want to be more formal about THE Ohio State University. ❤️🤍

They are so good & you can actually tell what songs they're playing with some bands you can't tell what song they are playing. Then to play & run & remember where they have to be on a huge football field & be out of breath while playing their instruments. Just amazing I really enjoyed watching that with you both. I hope the move is going well & I know you have a house full of boxes & everything is out of place but it will get there little by little & just don't over do it trying to get it all put in it's place. When the alumni band come they do 4 script Ohio's some of the alumni band may be in their 70's.
Best damn band in the land. The band practice is as hard as the football practice. You should see the entry when they do script Ohio.

Marching Band is very big in the US. It is Big even in Middle and High School.
Some of these kids have been training for a dozen years or so, between school, tutors and band camps, to be on that field in Scarlet and Gray. O H
