Dump Truck Breaks Gate! & Amtrak 19 Blows through! (Bessemer AL) 5-8-13

Craziness in Bessemer as usual, where it seems as a death trap at crossings all through town, as some one was just killed by Amtrak 19 in West Bham AL 2 days ago. This dump truck, which I assumed panicked once the gates were down, he decided to floor it & smashed the gates, & Amtrak 19 flew by on ags#2 moments after between 70 & 80mph, crushing some of the gate, I think the crew had ducked down, just in case, but I reported it to the dispatcher & NS PD moments after, to notify a maintainer & trains. CRAZINESS!

Imagine being so impatient you cant wait the like 2 seconds it takes for Amtrak to blaze past the crossing at 70mph......

Need to contact the DOT and state trooper.That is a mandatory 60 day license suspension under the CDL requirements if it is his first in 3 years.120 if 2nd and minimum of a year if 3rd.

Did you send the video into the local police to? Glad you reported it though. And pretty clear shot of the driver and company truck. They ought to be able to fine him....

Was on a Tri-Rail train in south Florida that hit a crossing arm a few years ago. Probably the same thing with a truck driver. Fortunately, the engineer was able to slow down in time, and we crawled through the crossing with the gate scratching the right side of the train (left a small white line across the entire length of the train). Coming back, the conductor had to flag the crossing while CSX repaired it.
