I ❤️ the people in this documentary. Brian really has a good attitude and happy disposition for going through a traumatic experience. The health and dieticians speak the truth. And the people suffering from diabetes and their families are so honest with big hearts. This was a very unique documentary from the viewpoint that it's not as much the fault of the person eating the food as it is the environment setting us up to fail. Thank you for creating this film!

Sugar in processed food is the problem, particularly bread. IMO, bread is the very first thing people should cut out if they're diabetic, or really anybody who wants to lose weight. I'm a former diabetic, and went from 120kg to around 82kg, this along with a low carb diet is how I did it and reversed diabetes.
I also recommend that people do some research on a low carb high fat diet as well as the benefits of fasting. Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Aseem Malhotra are good resources.

Seldom have I ever seen any documentary that really helps us understand that this problem is a societal problem and not just a problem for individuals and their "choices". The victims of this terrible disease are some of the most joyous, loving sensitive and self-aware individuals I have seen. I hope that we can begin to attack this obesity epedemic and help stem the tide of illnessess, however today in the grocery store I saw a baby of less than a year old, very fat and the mother filling the cart with surgary food and drink as her baby reaches on the shelves for it.

The problem is that we’re constantly eating and not giving the body enough time to digest the food. We have to give the body time to rest as well. Stop eating at night and maybe push breakfast a little later. Exercise as well. Make it part of life.

Rice - brown or black, not white - potatoes, sweet potatoes, bananas, onions, and other fruits and veg in season - and something is ALWAYS in season - some of the cheapest foods you can buy, anywhere in the world. and the healthiest. In fact, they are so cheap, especially bought in bulk, there should be some food dollars left over for dark, leafy greens. In a tropical nation, like NZ, beans, lettuces, cukes, tomatoes and zuchinis, just to name a few, can be grown on the back steps, in a crate or any old plastic container, for pennies a pound.
The trouble is, people aren't being told this by their health professionals or any of the other things they REALLY need to know that could restore them to health, improve the quality of their lives by tons, and save their lives. Its a tragedy & must change NOW.

    • @pinkmonkeybird2644

Frenchblue8 I don’t agree that people don’t know what foods are healthy and what foods are junk. Just listen to the people - they are well aware that home-cooked meals made from simple, unprocessed ingredients are the smart option but choose the fast-food burgers, sugary drinks, and highly processed pre-made foods with long shelf life because they are the least effort. It’s hard, I’m a mom who works full time, but I made the choice to cook healthy meals almost every night. I may have a messy house, a mountain of laundry to do, and cat hair on the furniture, but I’m giving my children the best building blocks for a healthy body and a way of life that will serve them well as they become adults. It does take work but health professionals and teachers have been spreading the word for decades.

It all goes back to healthy eating, losing weight to get at a normal, healthy weight then maintain it, exercising regularly and sleeping well on a daily basis. Too many people make too many bad choices in life. It’s ultimately their own fault. People have a responsibility to educate themself on how to take care of themselves instead of being in denial about reality.

Even doctors are advising diabetic patients to eat high-quality carbohydrates, which I find ridiculous! Diabetics should limit their carb intake to almost zero or at most 50g a day from sources like vegetables. What kind of medical advice is this?

There was a this history about how the British starved, killed many Indian's, that after generations the body works differently and they have diabetes and bc of the starvation period back then, the body keeps hold of the fat. Since then 1800, I believe this is true. My grandparents had it, same my parents and I've got it. Though it's been a tough 5yrs I have tried my best to maintain it, I have BED so its difficult. I am more scared of the renal failure, and nerve issues leading to amputation. As a nurse I see diabetic patients eating sugary cakes and biscuits and their on insulin, their feet have been amputated and many other toes black dead really, waiting to remove to prevent infection. I don't understand really, it's hard and there's alternatives, making ur own with sugar substitutes, expensive but health is important. James is 11yrs older than me, i seriously don't want to be heading that way. Luckily we are on tablets only and my other bro is doing keto to maintain it at pre diabetic. 5 sibling and we all diabetic plus my mum, we have control over this.
