Ive seen George and Ive seen Phil three times. I also saw Elton with the MSO. This is by far the best live show Ive seen in over thirty years. The MSO live recording is very good so is this but nothing will top the night I saw the show in Melbourne in 2011. I felt it in my bones. It was the most beautiful summer night in January 11. You know I saw the blue turtles show in 86. It was great but not like this.
This gig was magic. I wish Sting offered another concert with a philharmonic orchestra, his band and Jo Lawry soon!!! A privilege to see all these musicians enjoying it so much on stage. Never get tired of watching it, it raises my spirits whenever I listen to it!
It was in 1983 at the Lycée Jean Moulin in Lyon. My friend Jean-Clément Rada lends a record to a friend. An album in which this beautiful song is part. Later, I will see a concert with ... Manu Katché on drums. And this album. Germany. gosh. Sheiss how god it is to stay young...Fayçal GOUSSI LYON I HUNG MY HEAD. RIP JOHNNY CASH..
Such a tremendous achievement. It's impossible to describe how beautiful this evening's performance was. Among my favorites is "When We Dance." (19:35) The song follows the most sublime dramatic path. Perfect union of all members involved. And it culminates with Sting reaching a special ending: "I had a dream last night... I had a dream..." (sustained final note). This concert is from September 2010.
Sting has been one of my top favourite artists-creators-performers for decades but this concert let me re-discover some songs, like I Hung My Head. I paid more attention to the lyrics - it's a wise and moving story, and the ending with Sting's pianissimo on harmonica is so... Oh, I can't find words.
I was a freshman in college when Synchronicity was released. My clock radio woke me up every morning, most of the time with _Every Breath You Take_ playing. Sting was a musical genius then and he is today. I am excited to see how much of Sting's collection Universal begins releasing that we've not yet heard.
I heard this comment, since the last 10 years, and he still hits the notes as an angel, thanks God, I must tell that was a time, when he was on tour with a sore throat and there are recording of that tour, and that is what get confusing some people, he still sings perfectly, every time better

nice. this similar video was uploaded some 4 years ago, but it got taken down from utube for copyright i think. Best concert from sting. wish i was there.
Hi Ben, actually it was longer than that. I used to listen to it here back in 2013 and you're right they did remove it. Blessed it's back and hope it stays on here. Sting is the ultimate maestro of music and I'm blessed to have seen him in concert twice; Free one in Chicago at Grant Park (forgot year) and the Police Tour at Wrigley Field in '07, Almost saw him here in my new home of L.A. during his 1st Musical performance "Last Ship" for Valentine's but unfortunately I didn't make it in which the review stated it wasn't a great turn-out. I just think about how privileged Sting is - performing his own works with such an wonderful orchstera and additional extraordinary musicians. A dream of almost every serious musician I guess. And that's what makes a really good song. You can play and sing it alone with a guitar at the campfire and you can bring it an stage with a three heads band or with an entire symphonic orchestra. Every form with qualities of it's own. Ten years after this concert I see it for the first time here and I'm catched. I love Sting since decades, and the Police (I still remember how my ears got big as I heared "Walking on the moon" for the first time, down in the Eighties; that was a completely new sound) before he started his solo career. And I know his oevre very well and the most of it I like a lot. So in this case for me it's a new and very beautiful experience to hear all these well known tunes in a total new livery. Thanks for uploading and sharing this with us! Cheers from Berlin to all good people who know to appreciate this wonderful music - and this special human beeing named Sting
It's over ten years since I saw the show live in Melbourne. Sting just came back to Australia and I stayed away because I don't want to hear him without the orchestra. I think I made the right choice. How could you ever listen to Roxanne again after this?

Just, wow. Such a talent. Such a gift. Check out Rick Beato's interview...adds insight into his perspective and approach to all things musical. Explains a lot. JS Bach features prominently, who'd a thunk?
Ooooooooooh such a sweet performance. I adore Sting and I love the way he brought all these people together. Ms Jo Lawry is a blessing! I love the way he reimagined all the songs. And the audience was really good here too! He is a modern master.
I saw this video recently, and "Whenever I say your name" is my favorite song, or at least one of those among which is difficult to make a "selection". But that is very subjective. Sting has shown through his career that he is a gifted composer and musician. He is capable of mixing elements of different genres as reggae, gospel, jazz, and rock in almost all its flavors, and even more. "Whenever...". is a very interesting song for me because of the arrangement done by Sting and his collaborators. For me there was some kind of quoting of the ascendent structure of the Ravel's Bolero. One can feel first an intense but 'suave" performance which goes slowly and later there is a strong and tender intensification, by Sting, Jo Lawry, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.. In some moment you feel the music with a spiritual devotion intensity and at the same time the increasing intensity of love passion, all of which gets its climax with a fabulous performance of Jo at the last part of the song. After having respectfully saluted Mrs. Michel Bigles and her interpretation of this song by imitating her with artistic dignity, Jo gradually offer her own style and artistic personality. Jo offered a "lovely song" based on her great voice; her broad knowledge of technics of singing; her capability for reach the higher notes with tenderness and emotion; and an interpretation at the crucial moments with passion and the elegant sensuality of a lover. This concert was great and I am sure that is one of the most important in Sting's fruitful musical career. Thanks Sting. Thanks Jo.
