I've seen a lot of well-produced beginner videos by people who really know their stuff. However, this is the first video I've seen that presents the information so that a beginner can understand. Well done.
turtlemouth yo thanks! My aim was to do something that would be quick and make sense. Lots of super long videos that are a bit tough to follow for a total new person.
This guy is the best kind of nerd ❤️
is nerd still a thing? wow.. i've always been labelled a nerd.. word.
I'm a piano player and your modular videos especially the sv-1 review pushed me to try one out. Now I'm 2 full rows into my doepfer 9u case and having a blast. I just wanted to say thanks for the great work you put in!
I'm a long way away from getting my head around this
I once saw a video "explaining" FM synthesis with post-it notes and one titled "Making a Song in Audacity" in which the first step was "download background track" Your video is at the other end of the spectrum, good information understanadbly presented. You're a good teacher, thanks. I also love your Whisper Screaming on the halloween episodes!
This series is what pushed me over the fence! SO excited to start exploring sound more!!!
Thank you very much!!! That answers everything. I have learned more from this series than all the videos I watch until I pass out for the last month!!!! Again thanks!!
This series is extremely helpful
As a complete newb to EuroRack these videos do the most for me. Minimum theory which I like because we all have our own theories, maximum inofr on what is required to make sound. Much of this part I already knew, but having itr laid out so basic and complete makes for a good base to build upon. The daunting pat ofEuroRack, IMO, is the cost. Sure looks like I'd be looking at $2,000 to $3,000 just to get started and up to $10,000 and up to get a system something like a Buchla system. Hmmmm...might try starting with a software system just to see how much I really want this.
Thanks Jack, my aim with this series specifically was to give concise information without filler because when I was trying to start it was like 45 minutes of a guy just noodling and then saying “and that’s how to start a Eurorack” I’m like WHAT DO I NEED MAN!!!!!!???? So the whole time doing this series was to make short videos that could be bite size. Thanks for watching, Eurorack is soooo pricey. I hate it sometimes.
I'm thinking the same thing
Well done! Concise explanations that were accurate, informative and entertaining. Excellent production values as well.
Thank you George, it means a lot for you to say that. It was a fun series to do, I’m always humbled by the positive feedback!
Thank you for your beginners series. Gives me the confidence to get started with a Eurorack system. Your advice and the resources you mentioned are a great help in my Eurorack journey.
This 3 parts serie is such high quality production! Amazing work
Thank you for making and sharing this video. Nice work. 🙏
You're like the jesus of Synth-related video content, awakening us to a new era of post-production gold. Keep spreading the Word.
Eh, I’m just glad this could be of use, I really appreciate you stopping by! :)
Dude, I love your content. This series was great.
Great series of videos.
andddd it just keeps getting better !
Very plain and effective and thanks. Bravo.
This looks so fun
Clear presentation
Well done series! :-) And clever efficient use of footage for the power on/off closeups! ;-)
Bwahaha, you caught that...good eye ;)
I've used that 'technique' before too, on one occasion to the extreme! ;-) I was asked to do a basic Sub Phatty demo for MATRIXSYNTH and Moog, and before I was done the request came through to have an "unboxing" section as part of it. Well, due to time constraints and not wanting to box it up, so I could video the unboxing and then box it up again . . .I just recorded me boxing it up and then reversed the footage for the final video. haha. ruclips.net/video/K4TXU2HtpK4/видео.html
Excellent work, dude. This helped a lot.
Make sure to secure the modules!! I put the DFAM in my rack last week, but didn't put a single screw in. Damn the luck it popped out as I was removing a patch cable and started sparking.
I have to ask, how are you liking the DFAM??? :)
It is pretty fucking sick. Apparently this has something to do with the three VCA's? It is dope, and has a sick kick and bass, 808 style. Man now I am thinking I need clocks, and fucking VCA's for my rack
Great series, thanks for sharing
Fun to watch you build a modular.
One thing I just realized that even if you regret a module it is relatively cheap to replace it with something else, in particular if you can buy used. So one could consider some experimenting with filters and such. If i was to build my own I would go "filter nuts".
Man I totally need more filters and more VCAs and a sequencer....
Then again....I also need more money HAHAHA
Not a matter of money, matter of time.
Just enjoy what you have, think you have some very nice gear there mate.
You're so right.....I'm always looking at the next module. But, I honestly have more than the average person needs.
Great beginner tips!
Well a tip from a long time used gear buyer, never buy redundant gear.
I almost always made money when buying used. Done it for 25 years.
Got my money back on D20, M1, RX5, DR660, RY30, QS300, QY20 etc.
Your videos are wonderful, thank you!!!
Thank You for such invaluable Video. I will be waiting for next video!
Thank you, how did you feel about the Eurorack series as a whole?
Great video! What are your thoughts on prebuilt starter modular systems from Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms System 301 and the Make Noise Black Cartesian system? These come with power supply, case, patch cables, and core modules plus room to expand.
THE THRILLING FINALE
Did you think it was alright?
Noir Et Blanc Vie Of course!
Ok good, I always get so nervous about this series. I really want it to help.
Cool little series 👍 What brand patch cables are you using here? Thanks
thanks for your video !
I love this video for starters I've never had one but I do own an analogue solutions red square 2nd edition. Now I'm a mad scientist but I don't want a huge wall to wall system nor do I want a tiny one either well here's what I like I love grit I love super heavy distortion I love insane reverb and delay I love tb 303 diode filters vactrol filters goa trance psy trance Moog buchla the systems from the 70's and 60's hell throw in the 50's too that's what I want any suggestions. Well I've come across the Cre8te audio studios bundle kit it's 84 hp 55 mm deep it's a 3u desktop kit for 270 and it comes with its own built in midi clock and gate and power switch and supply plus two modules cells and chips and those two modules alone do a lot if I get that I'll do more with that than I could ever imagine what are your thoughts on that
Thanks! I am a complete newb regarding making music and synths but I really wanna learn, look into it and build a small rig to play around with. Any ideas what would be a good source for more guidance for a newb? Thanks!
Good info. Thanks man..
Once the modules are in a case, what do I plug the out into to send the signal to my studio monitors?
Thank you!!!
sticky thumb powering up by pulling back the powerbutton or video reversed on 1:19
Awesome series ;)
Just what I was waiting for. Many thanks.
You’re very welcome, do you feel the series covered all the info you needed?
Noir Et Blanc Vie - My next step is to watch your reviews of various modules. I do want to build a synth, when money permits, without copying a traditional structure.
Smart move, I love the ability to do something on the non traditional structure. It’s so tough at times though as Eurorack is not at all easy on the finances 😋
Thanks for the video! : ) Thumbs up.
Awesome! Now can we get some Euro- Jams??
Welp, I finally have some time so sure. Something, but you know me and quality...I'd have to do it all crazy cinematic.
Hey bro, nice video! What are the colored cables you are using here?
Sorry for the late reply, I think I used all cables I got from Pittsburgh Modular, they’re fairly thin, decent feel.
I have to say, I've been so lost figuring out where to start with mod synth and these videos have been some of the most helpful I have seen. Really great job and breaking everything down. I have a question, though:
I'm looking at either starting with the Moog mother-32 or the DFAM. It looks like the DFAM is more versatile, but I'm looking to get a dreamy sound that I want to make ambient noise soundscapes with. The DFAM looks like it's really going to get me more rhythmic, but there are ways to make some lush bass sounds that are pretty alluring. Do you have a recommendation between the two?
You’d definitely have to go with the M32, though if I were starting from scratch I’d think about breaking it down a little further, the M32 is huge and well, it kinda wastes a ton of space for being such a simple all in one.
@@NoirEtBlancViethanks for the reply! I actually saw your video about how you would go with the Pittsburgh sv-1, and you still have it on your rack. I was thinking of buying that with a sequencer instead of the m34. Do you think that is a good start, or would you still recommend getting individual pieces first?
Hey Jimmy, if I were starting all over I’d still pick up the SV-1. It’s honestly just so much more bang for the buck than any all in one voice module. The mixer is bad ass. I’d buy a filter from 24db LP filter Doepfer and call it a day. I want to reiterate that I literally had M32 #19 & #20 from the factory, I was hyped for them. Looking back, they were just amazing for their sound and sequencer, but size and versatility was lacking, you can do better elsewhere. I do truly hope for a Moog followup that will add features I think it needs.
@@NoirEtBlancVie Wow, yeah! That really helps. Thanks for your help!
How useful would my Neutron be as my first Eurorack module? What would you suggest as a next reasonable module?
That would be a good choice Darren, I’d say depends which way you wanna go from there, effects, shaping or modulation. If it were me I’d probably add shaping, another filter or add some bit crushing...aside from those things that are subjective I’d say what are you plans for the system over the next 6 months. Do you have an end goal system in mind?
Noir Et Blanc Vie . Thanks mate for a prompt reply. It's a hobby and I want to make ambient , soundscape music .
No problem, I’ll help if I can. What’s your case size if you have one or planning on one?
@@NoirEtBlancVie I have bought 6U rack brute stand ( which is powered)
It hurts my heart to see a Mother that doesn‘t get action time ;)
VictorSteiner I'd say that the SV-1 is better in most ways but hearing an analog oscillator through the Moog filter would have been nice.
Say you have a rack filled and you wanted to swap out one module, for example a 2HP module. Do you have to take out lots of modules to get to the cables?
Heck yeah and it sucks lol. (Though) a lot of 2hp modules you find may be passive and therefore not require power, things like mults and passive mixers.
thank u
Hi all! I'm new to the party on an old video, but I want to build a basic, but good quality, drum sequencer, any advice? Thanks
Check out my video on the Pittsburgh modular percussion sequencer. That’s what I use, then you can also check out my video on the Delptronics modules.
Yeeeeees
😊
What if we want to place this eurorack into a rackmount case with standard "rack ears"?
You can get frames that fit into 19" rack systems, that are Eurorack height with standard hp screw holes for your modules.
Hey where do you buy your patch cables?
Amazon 😊😊
Those appear to be our Noodles. We have them available in our web shop here: pittsburghmodular.com/store/12-pack-nazca-noodles-patch-cables
plz more mod synth videos
How do I use with my DAW?
Hey Kevin, I actually don’t use it with my DAW, I find the workflow to be bad for the pro work I do that needs to be recalled. Expert sleepers makes modules for this though
Hey thanx
Can you make CC subtitles for this video? Sometimes you speak to fast for me to understand.
That’s a good idea! I actually will. Thank you for suggesting this :)
@@NoirEtBlancVie Awesome, thanks man I appreciate it. These videos are very helpful.
Bruh now I’m scared wtf it’s a death trap
Cool man :) finally part 3 :) I waited to all three parts to share them in an article ;)
Oh yeah super sorry for taking so long (I got busy and lazy) I’m glad it’s all wrapped up though. Super happy you’ll share it as well, I truly hope it helps many people!
No chance of a Part 4? A trilogy in four or more parts. Lol.
Seriously, very nice videos though. Well done!
