After the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the critical naval victory at The Battle of Midway, the US conducts a hard fought island hopping campaign across the South Pacific towards Japan. In February 1945, US Marines will storm the beaches of Iwo Jima. Here we will explore the brutal island hopping campaign, and lessons learned and not learned before the ferocious Battle of Iwo Jima.

Looking forward to it!
Can’t wait, love you guys
You guys are knocking it out of the park, amazing.
I've been wanting a channel like this for SO LONG. Thank y'all!!!!
woweee
We are just being spoiled now.
😆
Im not mad about it
sadly they started a new channel for some reason, so spreading the video won't be happening. Most likely future videos will lessen in frequency
@@derrickstorm6976 what do you mean? The Operations Room just announced a new series with 12 videos in 11 weeks. This is an additional channel
I ain't watching this video until the 7th, and to be honest, can't believe it. The Operations Room's videos are now at the same level of anti spoiler precautions as a Marvel Movie lol. And the thing happened 70 years ago lmao
Would be hugely appreciative of any sharing and spreading of the word you might be able to do for us. We are keen to grow our shiny new channel!
I will do all i can to spread the word, really excited for this new channel, i hope you intend to spoil us fans.
Wilco!
You should pin this.
On it!
Yes sir!!!
The fact that this kind of quality is free is a STEAL. Stellar work.
@cas curse what exactly does it cost to us? You consider watching 2 ads before a video a price?
you could just read a wikipedia article about it instead of listening to some youtuber reading it for you xD
Agreed. when I heard the advert from operations room, i though it was a promo for a subscription site. Of which i was looking to pay a sub.
@cas curse has no argument, leaves. You really showed him
@@derrickstorm6976 >me with adblock
what 2 ads? lol
Great topic for a channel’s first video. Would be nice to see a breakdown of the final few months after Iwo Jima as well.
Noted!
@@TheIntelReport _Write that down write that down!_
I cannot express my love and appreciation enough for what you all do. Absolute gem for any history lover.
Absolutely agreed
This is a fantastic addition to your regular content. Thank you so much for the high quality videos.
Glad you enjoy it!
We Americans were fortunate to have Allies like NZ, Aus and GB in the Pacific Campaigns. I would like to hear more about their contributions.
They will be!
More like they were fortunate to have the United States as allies! Big brother had to come bail them out.
@@hihfty No you didn't MacArthur had 14 Divisions under his comman 1942 -1944 and 12 were Australian and only 2 were American. hmm weird.
@@TheIntelReport Better since Australians were the main ground force in Pacific from 1942-1944. MacArthur had 14 Divisions and 12 were Australian and NZ inbedded in them. and only 2 were American.
Most of your facts about this video are wrong. Guadal Canal was not the first defeat of Japanese WW2. Was Australian along Kakoda track.
@@nedkelly9688 Australia had an ever tightening noose wrapping around them. United States naval power and logistics is what Carried the war in the pacific. The Australian military was grossly under equipped and under prepared for the war. Without United States intervention in the area Australia was powerless to make any impacts. And truth be told it should be Australian troops compromising the majority of divisions as it is the Australians lack of preparedness that let the Japanese go scorched earth in your play box. In all happy to have the Australians on board but the reality is that our little brother was suffering an impending doom.
So not only are you doing your biggest series ever but your also doing a sister series that will follow each episode?!
Yup. Busy busy!
@@TheIntelReport happy happy
@@TheIntelReport how many people work with you/ the channel?
Bloody Tarawa was so brutal largely because the Marine landing craft bottomed out several hundred yards from the beach, so the Marines had to wade without cover under machinegun fire before even starting to take the beach. They still took it though. This catastrophe is what led to the creation of Frogmen, the predecessors of SEALs, to scout beaches before assaults.
Additionally, the absolutely, mind-boggling KIAs of the Japanese where only 17 of the more than 5000 men survived to be captured is harrowing. Absolutely brutal battle.
Now I have 2 favorite channels on RUclips. The operations room and now Intel Report! Guys, yall just smash! And speaking of smash, everyone reading this comment, smash that like button... these creators deserve it!
Excited to see the second channel!
Ey, yet another content creator I enjoy.
Awesome that Biak was mentioned. Despite being so unknown, it really was the first time the US encountered the kind of cave style of warfare that would be expanded on Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.
As if the Operations Room wasn't the best History channel on RUclips, a new in-depth Intel Report. Count me in. Keep up the great work. 🤩
Glad to see you expand! Congrats 🎉
I almost never comment on video's anymore, but thanks for providing us with such good content!
Thanks!
Love how you did a reverse chronological order approach to history at the beginning of the video .
You should also note that the lessons from these battles of attrition led to the estimate of a million American casualties for an invasion of the home islands and the consequent use of the atom bombs.
Operations Room is my favorite channel. AND NOW THERES TWO OF THEM!! 🎉
Fantastic start of this channel. I think this hits a niche that few others meet.
Might I suggest that if we're looking at events from a theater level, it may be a good idea to include a constant theater map in a corner somewhere so that the actions and results can be understood in real time? When the theater map was re-presented after the footage cuts, it took me a few seconds each time to remember the state of the map the last time I had seen it.
Outstanding work and coverage of it all! Really well done.
Thank you!
Got both channels on alert - expecting great stuff. Don't disappoint :)
Real kudos from Canada, TOR. Balanced and well done with expert narration.
These maps and analysis are really helpful. I've read a lot about the Pacific campaign but it was always hard to picture exactly what was going on where. This makes an enormous amount of sense
❤️ 🇯🇵
R.I.P. great warriors

Already loving this channel.
The more the better.
Keep up the good work
A proper first episode, excellent work as always…thank you, sir.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh! Let's go!
Superb first video for the channel.
I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how this new channel would work compared to the stupendous video quality and information that we have on the The Operations Room, but I needn't have worried as you have knocked this right out of the park.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well now that National Geographic is just reality shows now, I'm glad channels like this have picked up the slack, filled the void whatever you want to call it.
All I watch now are channels like this. I especially love any raw footage from WW2. Some great stuff on RUclips
Aside from the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns, defense in depth in urban fighting especially in the Battle of Manila convinced the Americans that landing all those troops in the Japanese homeland would result in a bloodbath larger than planned. Thus, fasttracking the development of atomic weapons.
The teachings of history are integral to graciousness. You can only understand how good they have it, when they realize how terrible it could be.
We get TWO channels with your content?!? Made my day!
Enjoy!

9:05 As a Marine myself, I can hear exactly how he sounds when he's screaming "GET UP and move that way!"
So double video drops from Ops/Intel Room every time!? Absolute winnage! 💯💯
In theory!
This is the best 30,000ft overview of the pacific theater I've ever heard. Amazing work
