as someone in a long term and healthy relationship, i can say that arguing is completely normal for all relationships. it is simply impossible for any relationship to exist without arguments. it’s unrealistic to say that you will always get along and agree with someone. the fact that two people that are different from each other and have different opinions on things communicate their differing thoughts and opinions helps the two understand each other better and improve their relationship, like what we saw with dai and shun. of course it is important to keep in mind that arguments don’t turn into abusive interactions. only then does it become a problem. seeing as shun is becoming more lively, dai’s declaration of love, and them themselves mentioning that their relationship is going strong, their relationship is most likely doing fine. as outsiders, we don’t have a right to say anything about relationships that don’t concern us. the most we can do is give them our full support and respect because at the end of the day, they know more about what is best for themselves and their relationship than we do!

It's not that I don't like Shun. What I don't like is that Dai is in that relationship that is not healthy at all. Shun is not ready, they continue to fight daily and that is not a healthy relationship. Shun needs help, and as long as they continue to indulge him in every drama, only Dai will become emotionally exhausted. It's not good for both of them. On the other hand, Ryota's insistence despite being rejected several times was also very uncomfortable to see as an audience, I can't imagine what it could have been like for Kazuto who had to live with him.

You know the saying “People won’t change”. This is proof people can change. Shun NEEDED unconditional love and acceptance. Dai gave that to him from day one. Lovely that Dai’s family accepted Shun. So happy. You can see how HAPPY they are …still…after 10 months! I have total faith that they will last and create a beautiful family together.

I'm from the US and can say not all of us like the scheming, fighting, over-the-top competition, and dramatics of most other reality shows. I haven't watched a full season of a reality TV show since maybe the mid-00s, but I could not stop watching The Boyfriend. I kept telling friends I feel like it was reality TV made specifically for someone like me because it was so full of kindness and genuineness and things seemed to progress more naturally than in more extreme shows.
I am Brazilian and lived in Japan for almost 3 years. I loved "The Boyfriend" because it showed how gentle and attentive these guys were. There was respect and we don't see this respect in reality shows in other countries (Latin America, Europe, USA). In addition, this TV series showed how gays face their problems in the current Japanese society. I decided to watch "The Boyfriend", because I was told that a Brazilian-Japanese guy (Alan) was in the casting. This made me very curious. Alan was balanced in energy and empathy (perhaps due to his Brazilian origin) and in patience (perhaps due to his educational background in Japan).
I must say as an American watching this show, it was one of the best gay themed reality shows I've ever seen. This group of Asian men are very unlike most of the Americanized Asian men I have met. I loved how there was no ridiculous drama and fighting on the show. The way that these men were so open and genuine with their feelings was really impressive. Asian men are often feminized in culture for a variety of reasons, but I really liked how in tune they all were with their feelings, are very comfortable with outward expressions of emotion like crying and hugging each other, and were ready to put themselves out there even if they didn't get the response they wanted. I also really liked how if feelings weren't reciprocated, none of them tried to sugar coat it to the other person. They thanked the other guy for his honesty, but said the same feelings were not there. As for Dai and Shun, as a clinical therapist, I see many red flags there, but as a fan watching the show, I was really rooting for them. Shun has clearly had a rough start to life and had to learn a lot on his own. He didn't have anyone to instill self confidence and communication skills so he handles things the only way he knows how. I'm glad that Dai didn't give up on him and I think maybe part of Shun's hot and cold behavior was to see if Dai would quickly give up. It was Shun's defense mechanism because you can see how sensitive he is. Opposites attract and I think that Dai and Shun's different energy balance each other out. As for the others, Usak is a gentle giant. I hope he finds someone. He seems like a great guy. Gensei has such a good heart and I think he'd pair up well with someone else artsy, which is why I was rooting for him and Ryota. Taeheon is extremely wise. I would've been interested in him. I like his energy. Ikuo expresses himself very well but I needed more time to figure him out fully. Alan is a ball of energy that probably wouldn't mesh well with me, but my goodness his outlook on life is incredible. He seems genuinely like a person who goes with the flow and wants to just get the most out of life. I love that. Kazuto is very much like me. I need time before I can say I love someone. There's so much I need to know first, but I'm glad he was willing to open himself up for something with Alan. That was another opposites attract pairing I liked. I hope there will be a season 2 with a new set of guys.

Both dai and shun have both taken in a bit of eachother's personalities. Dai seems more mature and calm while shun seems more confident, happy and open
True... I see the shift in Shun's energy but I think what we see now is actually Dai's personality. Remember Shun said, he's different when they are in a group setting but really likes him more when it's just the two of them because it's a different Dai. こういう番組って大体一人くらいは嫌なやついたりするもんなんだけど、これに出た人全員すごい素敵だった。海外の人が恋愛リアリティーショーのASMR版みたいって言ってたのわかる。穏やかな空気しか流れてなくて、ストレスなく見れた。

テラスハウスの頃から思ってたけど、1番すごいのはスタッフだと思う。どうしてこんな面白くなる人選が出来るの？？選球眼やばいでしょ。あと音楽のセンスの良さ。編集の上手さが際立ってたなと思う。

You know the saying “People won’t change”. This is proof people can change. Shun NEEDED unconditional love and acceptance. Dai gave that to him from day one. Lovely that Dai’s family accepted Shun. So happy. You can see how HAPPY they are …still…after 10 months! I have total faith that they will last and create a beautiful family together.

With years and experience you will learn that it is not necessary to argue with your partner constantly. That's romanticizing a toxic relationship. That is why communication and emotional responsibility is the key. Yes, they are young, but Dai doesn't act like that with Shun. That's why Dai's friends worried about his relationship with Shun. Hopefully time will prove me wrong, and Dai will not sacrifice himself due to his empathetic personality.

I'm from the US and can say not all of us like the scheming, fighting, over-the-top competition, and dramatics of most other reality shows. I haven't watched a full season of a reality TV show since maybe the mid-00s, but I could not stop watching The Boyfriend. I kept telling friends I feel like it was reality TV made specifically for someone like me because it was so full of kindness and genuineness and things seemed to progress more naturally than in more extreme shows.
I am Brazilian and lived in Japan for almost 3 years. I loved "The Boyfriend" because it showed how gentle and attentive these guys were. There was respect and we don't see this respect in reality shows in other countries (Latin America, Europe, USA). In addition, this TV series showed how gays face their problems in the current Japanese society. I decided to watch "The Boyfriend", because I was told that a Brazilian-Japanese guy (Alan) was in the casting. This made me very curious. Alan was balanced in energy and empathy (perhaps due to his Brazilian origin) and in patience (perhaps due to his educational background in Japan).

観た瞬間ここは未だに付き合ってるなって察したけど、本人たちの口から聞いた瞬間泣いたし、ダイシュン推してきて良かったなって凄く思えた。
I must say as an American watching this show, it was one of the best gay themed reality shows I've ever seen. This group of Asian men are very unlike most of the Americanized Asian men I have met. I loved how there was no ridiculous drama and fighting on the show. The way that these men were so open and genuine with their feelings was really impressive. Asian men are often feminized in culture for a variety of reasons, but I really liked how in tune they all were with their feelings, are very comfortable with outward expressions of emotion like crying and hugging each other, and were ready to put themselves out there even if they didn't get the response they wanted. I also really liked how if feelings weren't reciprocated, none of them tried to sugar coat it to the other person. They thanked the other guy for his honesty, but said the same feelings were not there. As for Dai and Shun, as a clinical therapist, I see many red flags there, but as a fan watching the show, I was really rooting for them. Shun has clearly had a rough start to life and had to learn a lot on his own. He didn't have anyone to instill self confidence and communication skills so he handles things the only way he knows how. I'm glad that Dai didn't give up on him and I think maybe part of Shun's hot and cold behavior was to see if Dai would quickly give up. It was Shun's defense mechanism because you can see how sensitive he is. Opposites attract and I think that Dai and Shun's different energy balance each other out. As for the others, Usak is a gentle giant. I hope he finds someone. He seems like a great guy. Gensei has such a good heart and I think he'd pair up well with someone else artsy, which is why I was rooting for him and Ryota. Taeheon is extremely wise. I would've been interested in him. I like his energy. Ikuo expresses himself very well but I needed more time to figure him out fully. Alan is a ball of energy that probably wouldn't mesh well with me, but my goodness his outlook on life is incredible. He seems genuinely like a person who goes with the flow and wants to just get the most out of life. I love that. Kazuto is very much like me. I need time before I can say I love someone. There's so much I need to know first, but I'm glad he was willing to open himself up for something with Alan. That was another opposites attract pairing I liked. I hope there will be a season 2 with a new set of guys.
