The Holt Morpheus Pocketknife: Disassembly and Quick Review

- Today, we're going to take a look at a dreamy knife with a dreamy name, the Holt Knives Morpheus. We'll see that it's easy to take apart and maintain, and a joy in the pocket, even if the price tag is a bit nightmarish.
If you are curious, the two indentations in on the blade are the steel type. We started using a simple 5 bit binary code to mark our steel so it can be easily identified during processing. The two dimples are 11 binary or 3 in decimal which is our code for Damasteel.
Thanks Joe! Just gotta say I love my Haptic #762 and can’t wait until I can get another Holt! Definitely will be a Morpheus next! Thanks again for clarifying! Hope you and your family have a blessed and very merry Christmas and happy new year!
You make some Beautiful and Amazing Knives... Keep up the good work. 👍
Thank you!@@zbaird3
@@zbaird3 Thank you!
I so need to acquire one in 2024 if at all possible!!
The world needs more Nick shabazz
Brightens my day whenever I see a new upload. Keep them coming 😀
Beautiful workmanship.
Got one for my birthday this year, and it is precision machining personified. I opted for a more plain version, which is my preference, but it’s still the most I’ve spent on a knife.
For me 1200 bucks is an insane amount of money to spend on a knife... but.... as a society we have some people spending that much on a smartphone every other year that ends up broken in a drawer or a landfill an nobody gives it a second thought. If you think about this knife as a heritage piece that will last you a life time suddenly it doesent look so bad. That is if you dont lose it :D
Nick, your Morpheus is the best looking knife I have seen yet - anywhere. Beautiful workmanship and color !!
The Holts make my favorite knives. Absolutely stellar makers
O my god i love your humor 😂.
Nice knife also.
Greets from Austria ✌️
I love the knife and your review.
Oh and happy holidays, thanks for everything nick
Fantastic looking knife.
I always enjoy your content Nick, thank you.
I holted in on this the end. Love to see you here again. Nice review. I really appreciate your humor and you can lough about or with your self Mr exxon shabazz
Thanks for *another* great video! A new Shabazz review always makes my day just a little better! I'd love to get your take on how this compares to the Holt Haptic, and which you prefer. I'd also love to see a video comparing this to other comparably priced knives in this tier (e.g., Grimsmo, Herman, Shiro, Skiff). In any case, thanks again, and Happy Holidays!
holy balls, those are 2 of the nicest holts I have ever seen...
Deployment sound is nice.
gorgeous. I have the basic trim level. cheaper, but still gorgeous. action is INSANE
For the strataspheric price some internal milling could be done, Grimsmo. All summed up great functional art knife.
those are speed holes, they make the knife go faster
The two holes are for the detent nub and ramp. But when it’s open. So there not even a touch of double clutch.
I found with my Haptic that standard blue Loctite could break free in use - in fact the factory Loctite broke free after about forty deployments. I suspect the elastomeric thread locker is a response to that issue.
Nice knife !
Nick are you going to do top 10 budget etc for 2023? I always look forward to that quite a bit.
Nick can we pls get a lil temperance 3 review in k390. Older for sure but i cant find any in depth reviews on it. I highly recommend it and think others should see it too.
Have you affected your science coworkers carry because of what you carry? Been waiting to feel like I am safe spending on a Morpheus. Keeping a knife budget.
Nice vid Nick
Those are definitely not indentations from hardness testing. My *guess* is that they may be there for fixturing during manufacture.
I spent a couple years checking their website periodically and nothing was ever available. So I decided for that much difficulty getting it it’s not worth the price.
They primarily sell through their Facebook group, Instagram, or at shows and never through their website.
You can order a Morpheus right now
Why do you torture me so! That is beautiful :)
I get that everyone puts skiff bearings in their nice knives for improvement. But these higher end knives should be using higher end bearings. Why do your best on every part of the knife and put in the cheapest bearings available. Kinda like buying a premium car and putting Walmart tires on it. Well it still rolls and good enough, send it
Looks exactly like every other thing
Hey Nick this is the guy with the screwed up CRKT redemption. I received my replacement and thankfully it's dead on. You going to be doing the review of this beast?
I've been flirting with the idea of selling off some of my collection and buying either a Holt or Herman. What do you think is the better option?
Do i stick with made in the USA or purchase from Poland?
How long did it take
If you aint first you're last
I wish the bearings were ceramic but there should be no problem swapping to Skiff or something if someone wishes to swap.
Yeah it’s honestly kind of weird to be using default steel bearings on something like this
How does that compare to the Grimsmo Rask?
Has anyone ever seen you and mixedmollywhoppery in the same room?
Not to my knowledge, no.
You need to try knife sheild not only does it protect the steel but it cleans sticky stuff off super easy. Made by kpl
Thanks Lefty 😂
@@onemanhisdub1969 atleast its not linked below
From my small amount of experience in a material science lab, I have never seen a Rockwell hardness indent be that big. Usually for something as hard as blade steel you will be using a small diamond indenter.
Maybe they missed the first two times when making the detent hole . . .
For those who aren't as fluent in 1980s ( i feel old using 19) eco disaters. In '88 or about the oil tanker Exxon Valdiz had a massive oil spill in Prince William sound Alaska, a sensitive marine ecosystem.
$1200!
What's the difference between a $1200 knife and a $200 knife, aside from $1000?
From my experience, the difference will likely be: materials, country of origin, attention to detail, and level of machining quality. Ask any machinist and the tighter your tolerances get / more complicated your part is the exponentially more expensive it will be.
The tolerances of the knife vs the tolerances of the customer. Wherever you go, there you are. Personally, this knife makes me appreciate the value of my Rat 1.
Not a gem? (I would have thought so after watching the review)
Great knife, but very expensive. Probably a gem if I were doing a full review.
Just here to watch you disassemble a $1000+ knife. If anyone can do it properly it's you.
For younger people
1200$ huh?
Oh... I guess I really don't need to eat for a year
I just got a Boker Barlow in Jute Micarta from Germany. I can get a 4 finger grip and it weighs in at one once. That will do 99% of your cutting tasks.
That being said your knife is beautiful but, as you say, you have to be mad to punt up 1200 dollars for a knife that really doesn't flick any better than a Ganzo.
Might be good that I'm not wealthy. I'd have way too many knives. As opposed to just too many knives.
Don't care what it's made of no knife is worth that much to me cause at the end of the day it's a tool not a gold ring or diamond necklace
Not worth it
