I did the 30 day detox in March of 2021 and it was one of the best things I’ve done since I stopped relaxing. My curls finally developed I have less frizz and my hair shines. I do use raw butters and oils but I clarify regularly and I don’t use manufactured products
Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope more people know the importance of clarifying the hair more often if they are using heavier products. I clarify more when I am experimenting with new products to potentially share with you all.
@@eunicegourgel826 I’m low porosity so I do an ACV rinse of 1 tsp of ACV in 1 C of water and let it sit on my hair for 15 mins then I cleanse with bentonite clay African black soap or Castile soap. Make sure u condition or ur hair will be a dry crispy matted mess 😁😁😁
My acne cleared up after I stopped using so much oil in my hair but I didn’t realize it until I decided to put oil in my again hair randomly…several pimples came back…definitely wont go back.. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one
@Trinity M There is no one way to care for hair, but this is a simplified way that is helpful for many of us. Personally, it isn't a trend. It's the way my mom taught us to care for our hair we didn't use raw oil and butter just shampoo, condition, and style. So it may be new to the natural hair community, but just like there are many black families who use raw oil and butter, there are also many who do not. Our ancestors did a lot of things that were not necessarily backward but was the best they could do at the time. People back then used washboards to cleanse their clothing. Does that mean I shouldn't use a washing machine? I view hair care in much the same way. If I can do my hair in a more simplified way, have healthy hair, and save time I see no reason to go back to what great grandmother may have done.
I love this video and I’m glad I found it. I suffered from awful sebhorreic dermatitis on my scalp since I was a child and never knew what the true issue was. I randomly stopped using oils one day when I ran out, and I washed my hair if my scalp felt itchy or dry. It was AWFUL at first. But now, a year later, my scalp is flake free other than my bits of my hairline at times. I never used much butter anyway, and I stopped using leave in conditioners a month ago. My hair is already growing, and my curls feel super hydrated. I’m excited and a fan of this hydration method.
Done hair! This is the ultimate for me! This is my hair!!!! I loved this part so much in this video. This is the subtle truth and I’m loving my tight, kinky and coiled curls!! My desired result 😊
I’m so happy for you!!! 😆 I hope more people are able to live their best lives with their tight curls. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it so much! 💕💕💕
Your hair looks so beautiful hydrated and healthy!!!! The proof is in the pudding. I’m on my journey now and i just want to get to the ultimate goal of seeing my hair in its natural hydrated state
Def agree mixed oils and whipped butters are better than raw state butters. My hair likes to be in states where it has little to no product (straight) then i load my scalp with oil to let my hair rest (straight ponytail)…and sometimes my hair likes to be in its natural state (mini twists) and i can apply oil on my scalp the day i install….and whipped shea butter like once or twice a week and I’m good. I have soooooo much product i don’t need or use bc i learned my hair literally likes the bare minimum. I do like to oil my hair with oil or butter on wash day and do a oil/butter heat treatment before i shampoo…but i agree…less is more for black hair we have been taught wrong for a while.
I’m glad you found a routine that work for you. Yes simple haircare is so much better for black haircare across the board. I was cleaning out my stash and packing it up for family members. I only have one head of hair and doesn’t need a whole cart full of products anymore lol.
God Bless You! Thank you so much for listing the products! I was confused on what shampoo and conditioner to use, but I’m going to still buy the black girl curls course when I’m able too because I want to be fully educated on my hair
You’re welcome! There are plenty of other shampoo and conditioners that I know other educators use, but I know other educators that some of the same products. There is definitely a lot of confusion on what is “approved” but I love the products that I currently use.
Thank you 🙏🏽 for this information… I suffer with scalp issues and found that my scalp can’t take oils except for if I’m doing a hot oil treatment at wash day
Yea I now understand the hesitancy to share products cause things can really vary from person to person. I'd still be interested in your stash video though 😅 just like the old days 🤣
Does this mean you're using standard brands now instead of pure or natural (raw)? So what can you use if you can't buy expensive products and have dry scalp and hair???!!
I do use standard brands now particularly products that don’t contain heavy oils and butters in the first five to seven ingredients. I have a series on the challenge right now called Affordable Stylers. I also keep a list of my favorite products in my description. If you have a dry scalp most likely the reason is dehydration from not washing the hair consistently on a weekly basis. If the problem persists, I would contact a dermatologist.
Could I skip the conditioner/deep conditioner and just use a leave in? I’m trying to step out of the shower sooner. I’ve been using a 3 in 1 deep conditioner that doesn’t need to be rinsed. Then I detangle outside, I just don’t like being wet and cold for a long shower process.
Completely understand! Personally I would still try to use a conditioner vs a leave in because that leave in can impact your style longevity and weigh down the hair. Truly, it just depends on what your what you want for your desired style result. However using the product as a leave in vs a conditioner could lead you to use more product than needed since the running water aids in detangling and product distribution.
Thank you for the video❤ your ouidad advanced climate control gel topper you used in your wash n go video, is it a water soluble product? I would love to try it
@@itstruedestiny You don’t have low porosity hair anymore since your hair is able to retain moisture and stay hydrated since you properly take care of it. It’s not water repellent anymore which is low porosity. I’m not sure if you have high or normal I just think you have healthy hair
Please use your leave in the conditioner. Your hair needs that barrier. You dont have to use anything else but shampoo & conditionrr leave in conditioner & treatment mask or deep conditioners. These are the staple products your hair needs.these few things will keep your hair even healthier. Thank you!
Leave in conditioner is not necessarily moisturizing. True hydration comes from water meaning the entire wash day process. Washing hair on a weekly basis allows my hair to stay hydrated. A deep conditioner is optional treatment that should be used when the hair is comprised or damaged. It is especially not needed when you use high-quality, concentrated conditioners like the conditioners featured in my favorites video. A leave in conditioner is optional and often impedes the final styled result and style longevity. I use stylers primarily that are botanical gels filled with humectants so my hair is not harmed by my stylers. Hope this helps 💕
19:00 i just dont understand how using oils on your hair hinders water from getting into it if you're consistently shampooing and clarifying. Why does it matter if they "build up" as long as you are correctly shampooing? All this almost sounds like the silicone fear we all had(and some of us still have) earlier on. Just wash your damn hair... I don't think i will refrain from using leave in conditioners with oils in my hair, especially if we're talking spray leave ins. My hair dries out too easily for that. Hell, even with cream leave ins, i got the doux mousse to actually work on my twist out during the winter without my hair drying out by using one under it funny enough.
As long as you are adequately shampooing the hair, you will be fine health wise. However styling with those heavy oils and butters don’t led to my desired style which is a somewhat defined wash and go.
@itstruedestiny yeah I figured. I do wonder if people who opt out of leave ins in favor of more definition with wash n gos are doing the healthy thing for their hair though. Often times, the most aesthetic look is not necessarily the healthiest for our hair afterall...in terms of preventing dryness, breakage, and/ or and split ends.

Hey lady ty for sharing your hair lifestyle change & results since letting go of oils, butters & mostly leave ins. I went natural the 1st time in 2011 & i knew my hair would be super thick & course. It grew really fast but it was so hard to care for, i didn't know how to take care of it at all. Also the butters, etc kept my skin bumpy, the oil would run down my face & i had nonstop build-up. Yr 5 i almost permed it out of giving up but instead i got keratin for 2 yrs. The keratin life ended badly due to color damage. So last summer i cut off 20+ inches of hair/ 2nd chop. My hair was struggling & i had no idea what to do but i was terrified of being natural again. I wore 2 sets of braids for 6 mths to just figure out what to do. Blessings came & i found a curly hair stylist that was a member of blk.girl.curls in Dallas/tx. She listened to my hair horror story & told me exactly what to do going forward & 4 the 1st time in my life i fully accepted my hair & that it was beautiful! I go to her every 3-4 mths, she is so encouraging, loves my hair, proud of me, I'm grateful 4 what she's taught me. I switch between curlsmith, don't despair hair repair, innersense 4 washing/ conditioner, i use either UFD or curly maker for the base, topper is innersense, shower fixer or proceed with caution. For moose I'll only use it for twist outs on a blow out. I'm in love with my hair, it's healthy & stunning 😍. No leave in, oil, butter, none of that mess! I wash my hair every 5 to 7 days, if a section needs some love i put a lil water on the spot & add a lil doux. Yourself & Fo Adunni are the only two influencers that I've seen fully sticking to the process & your hair looks very similar to mine with the size & shape of your curls. New subbie & your hair is 🔥

One update - I cut out "proceed with caution". The other day while washing my hair i noticed lil white bubble gum gunk in my hair, looked like I'd chewed gum & it melted in my hair, I was in shock. That's what the gel did & I knew that it was a trash low quality product from the old days that no longer fit for me. So instead I ordered the "trepadora glaze". I plan to use it in my frizzy spots on top of ICH or I'll alternate it with ICH, combo w/UFD.
