      ever noticed that the muck on the floor looks like coagulation? everything has a reason in nature,,,,, 10000 years from now that will be an entirely different place the stalactites/mites will had taken over and that muck will have transformed into stone after filling the mine like it was never there. after the water finds a new path to run after it meets that resistance.
      this big blue ball is a living breathing thing just like you and I >> but you'd have to be immortal to see the big picture firsthand. no one on earth ever has. if your life expectancy was 200 years it wouldn't be long enough by far. that thought makes me ache inside. love bro. thank you for this.

  • @001desertrat3
    @001desertrat3 4 года назад +34

    @ 5:19 - Those are not 'normal' stalactites ; normal stalactites are formed slowly over time by the deposition of Carbonates of Lime and are hard and rock-like . Those are what I've always called ''Rock Snot'' , and are composed of dissolved organic matter that has percolated down through the rock and dripped into the Drift . If you touch them , they are soft and squishy and easily break off of the back and go splat when they hit the floor .

    The ore cart with its makers plate and spring still attached is an amazing find. Its the first time I have seen one that intact. The number, length and color of the stalagmites was unusual and very interesting. Also a good indication that no one has been there probably since the last miners walk out.

    The mud in there reminded me of the underground placer mines we have in Northern California (which are the reason I got chest waders rather than hip waders). That ore cart was fantastic. You know how rare it is to still see the manufacturer's plate. It made a long journey from Sacramento to forgotten underground near the top of a mountain in whichever state that is.

    I must say it again, your beautiful still shots are what sets your channel apart from the other ones! Having tried it the only time I was into a mine, I do understand the difficulty of getting good lighting and depth of field without introducing too much noise. Are these handheld shots? Impressive if that is the case. Looks like you turn the aperture way down as well, this is wizardry. :)

    I thought I'd seen all the videos on mine exploration but apparently not as I just came across this one of yours. That was an awful lot of drilling, blasting, and mucking to not have hauled any ore! It made no difference how many mines I explored and though I knew better the orange and black minerals oxidizing in the mines always made me think of something organic leaking from an open wound. Really gross but it was a mindset I just couldn't lose. And you are right about the quality of the water. I've explored with a couple of people who I had to stop that were going to take a drink of the water. The number of contaminants would surprise most people with lead being a major ruin your life addition along with copper, silver, arsenic, zinc, cadmium, and occasionally radioactive stuff. Interesting mine. Thanks for sharing it.

    Pretty cool. Nice to see a mine once in a while that hasn't been ransacked by people who have a collection of stolen stuff in their man-cave so only their friends see it. The ore cart is rivetted which places it about the mid-1920s with the advent of arc welding. That was an awful lot of drilling, blasting, and mucking to never have hauled any ore out for processing. Glad you didn't take a dive into the orange goo. I've done that. My fall was stopped by my face. Kind of a metallic taste if I remember correctly and it's hard on a washing machine. Thanks for the effort.

    I’m guessing the model is 89 and built in 92 (1892)?

      Globe Iron Works of Stockton moved to Sacramento in 1911 or soon after.

    It all looks yellow from my computer. It also looked like a lot of the wood was charred.

    Why don't you grab ore samples & sell them on ebay like another You tube mine channel does?

      It’s a good idea. My main issue is I probably wouldn’t have time to manage a bunch of Ebay listings. Second, there are some legal considerations to be made on a site-by-site basis if you’re removing minerals from a mine.

    Great equipment and lighting, can’t complain about that. I do think you linger just a tad too long on things and there isn’t any continuous shots. More cutaways confuse me as to what you’ve walked through

    Yeah, we get the ore cart. We don't get the idea of not draining the mine with a shovel (big or little). Then dragging out the ore to crush the rock, smelt the metal and make cute animals out of it. (Kidding about the animals)
