  • Many companies premanufacture skins pre-cut for your ski width and length, but sometimes you'll have to cut them to fit your skis yourself. But don't worry, skin cutting is not as daunting as you think. Drew Petersen illustrates the basics to get you dialed for uphill travel.

Thanks for the confidence instilment Drew. Right after trimming, with the skin still on the ski, I like to liberally wipe the freshly cut skin edges with a paper towel to wipe away the hairs that are loosed by the cutting. I've found there be a decent amount of loose hairs there after cutting, and this prevents them from getting stuck to that critical adhesive at the skin edge.

I have a pair of g3 skins cut to fit my 108 with skis. Would you say they would be good on my 116 ? Or is that to narrow to use ?
    Thanks

In my oppinion the G3 tool cuts away too much of your skin. I prefer to have the skin start on the border between edge and the base material. Visually its no big difference but in steep hard packed terrain it make a real difference in traction.

Contour has a good cut tool as well ... What cap is that by the way? Looking for a cap without top knob to have under helmet

I think it was just a promo cap Salomon made a batch of, so they're unfortunately not for sale. They do have some good ones coming soon though. In the meantime, I've got a couple new extras of this one. I'll give them away on Insta sometime soon! --> @drewpeterski
