Here is my attempt to capture this crazy experience in a video diary format. Moving to NYC was just a thought a year ago and i can't believe this is my new reality. Thank you so much Prati and Dhaval (IG: @iwander01; instagram.com/iwander01/?hl=en) for helping with the move and setting up the new place

I know exactly how you are feeling about moving and having to get rid of all your belongings, we are the same age as well. Just know you can mourn your old life and be happy about your new life at the same time. Good luck!

I appreciate your video! I am moving to NYC this fall and I am in my 40's - Never to late to chase your dreams and start over. Everyone has a different life path and what matters is you are living your truth.

Thank you 😭 it’s never too late to start or create a life that you always dreamt of… Whenever I feel behind in my life, I remind myself that the “timeline” is a social construct and instead I should focus on what brings me joy & happiness. Good luck with the move ❤❤❤

This is awesome. We need more people in their 30s showing its possible to get a fresh start and move to a big city. The most marketable ones are the freshly out of college with just a backpack and a dream, but I just cant relate to those at all.

Tisha, have you seen the CLASSIC b&w movie, Manhattan (1979) with Woody Allen & Diane Keaton. You could start with the "official trailer". I empathize with your daily experiences b/c we lived in NYC, in Queens (tallest bldg (Skyline Tower) at the the time in Flushing (10m walk to the #7), 1967-2000 (only 2 moves (block to next block, using mostly a folding shopping cart) in 33 years, same neighborhood). Rental reached $1200 in 1999. We had a SUPER LARGE 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, galley kitchen with large south facing windows (under LGA flight path, in fact, planes flew through our Direct TV antenna now and then). Large terrace on the 22nd top floor (corner, no neighbors). Everything large, LR & DR combined. Never a wait for a washer & dryer in the basement. All this for $1200. NUSUN is now higher. On their home page, you can see Skyline Towers on the left in the background.

Not sure how I found you but it was so good to go through this journey with you in this video! I’ve had the EXACT feeling you’ve had since 2021 as well!!! But I ultimately chose to stay where I’m at however I’m still selling everything off and refurbishing and the feelings are the same! So happy to see you follow your heart and wishing you all the best in NYC! ❤

Everytime I watch a US city apartment hunt I'm mind blown on how strict and crazy everything is. Prices are super high, the requirements for you to get the apartment is crazy and on top of all that there might be a broker fee. In Finland I just go on some websites message some people send applications and all they might want from me is that I have my credit information gucci and like one month rent for deposit. Like yes in Helsinki apartments are crazy expensive but like not 1 bedroom 2200 expensive

I'm sorry you started out on the wrong foot when it comes to management. There is a complaint line where you have to call. 311 for NYC. Something with housing. It works for everyone regardless economic status. Once you contact them, they will come to your apt. Assess it and if there is any violations, they will get on the landlord's case to fix it or face dealing with them. That is something no landlord wants to mess with.
