      I'm so happy that this motivated you!! You've got this! People act like it's some big secret which makes certain things seem unattainable, but it's not! I'm gonna make it my point to help you guys in whichever way I can!!

    It’s so awesome seeing fellow black women in L&D! The maternal death rate of Black mothers inspired me to do the same. 👶🏾👶🏿❤️ 2 more semesters to go! I don’t think my school offers externships, can I apply directly through the hospital or does it have to be done through the school? I’m also hoping to land a CNA position in mother and baby to help out as well.

      Not only black mothers but women of color. I almost died because they went about induction so wrong lost 2 liters of blood. I want to become a midwife because of this

    I just came across your channel! I am a new grad RN who just started L&D! Just like you did, I contacted the manager of my hospitals L&D floor and got my foot in the summer before I graduated. I showed her my interest in the job and applied as soon as there was a position to open. I feel that it was the main reason I got the job! Now that I am here, I love it so much but so overwhelmed with the training because it is so much to take in. I can’t wait until I am more comfortable with my job!

Before I reach that point I want to work on a L & D unit when I finish nursing school. Some nurses tell me that I need to get Med/Surg experience as well. I don't have time for all of that...I'm 48....and a Doula.

    I’m barely starting an ED nurse extern, and idk if its worth it because I want to be an L/D nurse. I’m in my last semester of nursing school and haven’t had a hospital job yet so this would be a first which seems busy while trying to apply for nurse residence programs. Would you recommend keeping it, or do you think itll help at all?

    • @juliedavette3140
      @juliedavette3140  4 года назад +4

      Hey! Congrats to you! The number 1 thing that I can tell you is to let go of all expectations. Everything that you think L&D is, let it go... and I mean EVERYTHING. Just know that you're walking into a very critical speciality. Way more critical than I thought it was coming straight out of nursing school. It's a very rewarding area, but make sure you put on your roller skates, bc sis, you're gonna need it. lol. But as a far as essentials, I would just invest in some comfortable shoes... maybe a surgical cap, a stethoscope and a reflex hammer (unless your floor already has some that you can use). I can make a video on this. lol
