I was a 10yr old boy back then and I couldn't get enough info on these cats. They were all my heros. I studied my dad's bass master issues much more than I put into school work. I read the special classic report issues about my favorite pros front to back multiple times. I grew up in the country and we didn't have cable TV so I couldn't catch any bass master shows on the old tnn network till sometime in the mid 90s. I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up......I wanted to become a bass pro just like these guys. But I didn't quite know how to get there back then. And I had no family support or any mentors. My parents told.me that wasn't a real job and I could never make a.living as a bass pro. I did finally find my way to fishing bass club tourneys. And eventually every local/regional weekend tournaments I could pay the entry fees and get into.
Note to any parents today:......never tell a kid that's got a dream that they can't do it or they wouldn't be good enough to make it. You never know the passion level your kids have in their dreams. If you invest and help them cultivate their dream it very well may lead to a pro career in something and pay off bigger than you thought.

I was 16 when this happened. I'd been fishin the first thumbbars (Abu Garcia) for only a year or two. 27 acre pricate lake in my back yard. I bet I smoked em in weight & numbers in the same time frame! I AM a BASS Masters Champion!! Lol - I'm not an idiot. These guys would have embarrassed me on my lake or that one! (Maybe!! Lol) I freakin LOVE these vids!!!

Let's go back to Bass Tournament fishing. Without using electronics to find fish. Then see if KVD could beat R. Clunn head to head straight up fishing. Rick would win every time. He is the G.O.A.T. NOT KVD! Shawn

100% yes. Are other athletes better because of the improvements in their sport...yes, but they are also better because there is a reality that you can make a living doing it. People used to fish and then stumble into a career in fishing because they were very good. Now folks seek out fishing for a living and give all of their time and attention to being a better angler. Happens in every sport. Golf clubs have evolved, but golfers are just as good if not better than back in the day.
