I miss Sourcefed so much. What a great channel that we lost :(
Agreed! “Tell me your name” and “say mhm santa” are some of my husbands and I’s favourite inside jokes.
@@Duckduckobtusegoose what is that a coffee machine
Real ones remember when Discovery tried to rebrand all the Sourcefed channels and hid all the all content until people were so mad about it they changed back.
They didn't just hide them, a month later without warning they changed all the branding and released a couple videos that were basically off brand sourcefed
Dude I was so pissed they changed SourceFed Nerd to Now This. Especially after all the work they did and it finally hitting 1mil
yeah how they got canned actually was more than lost viewership and i wish that was mentioned. Discovery was renegotiating contracts and selling them to the ppl that made Doodoo. Pretty positive Phil was going to get canceled too and just ended up buying it from them before it happened. It was execs and corporate politics that killed it. Sourcefed was restabilizing its viewership and honestly was a secure channel at that point.
Now This Nerd was a dark time
i cannot wait for the sugar pine 7 video
Same i was so into sp7 and cowchop
@@vvvvvv66666couldn't stand sp7 cowchop loved though
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 for me i think i was just into their podcast at some point
It'll open up space for so much else too, Creatures, Cowchop, Rooster Teeth, even Funhaus... what a shitshow it all turned out to be but that shit was my teenage years
Wooooahhh. Wooooahhh. Let's. Get. Peas.
While it's heartbreaking that SourceFed is no more, what's even more tragic is that the main sponsor, Strens'ms, apparently went bankrupt shortly after the channel stopped producing videos.
Damn… you’re a real one
I've actually lost one of the two beans from the Strens'ms Three beans I bought back in 2012
I cant even find their horse socks anymore!! One of their absolute best products.
Sam Bashor used to go the cafe i worked at a year ago. Very sweet guy and it was cool seeing him so long after Source Fed went away
I'm happy to see Sam is still up and about, he's kinda disappeared from the online space for the last few years
Man, I haven't thought about Sourcefed in ages. I binged a lot of their Table Talks and other casual content during a pretty rough period of my life. I wasn't super into the scripted stuff, but the "sit around with friends and shoot the shit" pieces they made were always super enjoyable for me to watch. Sam, Steve, Will, Lieberman, Trish, Maude, Reina, etc. will always hold a special place in my heart. Hope they're all doing well.
Table talks were good
I feel there needs to be a deep dive now on the Valleyfolk after this not just SP7. Considering it consists of Steve, Joe, Elliot and (formerly) Lee.
Isnt there some drama to be mined about Lee leaving that one too?
@@hjewkesohhhhhh yeah
Yes!! I only found out about it all years after. It's the perfect endcap to sourcefed
And Dynamic Banter!
@@hjewkes i remember the video that came out when they announced that lee was basically fired... they didn't give a good reason, lee also made a video and also didn't really give a good reason... i was just soooo lost. kinda still am
I think what Stanz is missing in this quick summary is what arguably was the best about Sourcefed and why Phil was praised for his involvement in picking the hosts, and that's just how much easy chemistry every single host had with eachother over a such a long period of time. These guys all didnt just act friendly for the sake of the show, they all pretty quickly became very genuine friends and it was a very specific energy you could feel through the screen. And through the years (with the exception of a few, mainly the guys that would become New Rockstars) pretty much every new host that came on was brought into that dynamic pretty seamlessly. This is also why the whole "open crushes on coworkers" thing wasnt as sketchy or uncomfortable as it sounds. Its a thing I think you either had to be there for at the time or really sit and binge watch way more than clips to really understand the appeal. Yes it's a product of its time, but also at the time there was very little produced content like this from teams that were just openly friends having a good time.
YES!
Exactly. Nowadays it's an accepted category of youtube channels, to have a big group of people just making content together as friends (structured or not) but back then this wasn't common at all, and Sourcefed was the best if not the first to get people hooked on the format and experience. Cast and crew members leaving was a major sadness for viewers, and every additional one was like getting a new kid in class.
i was never a huge smosh fan but i think sourcefed WAS my smosh. I got to meet them all and they were all so nice and cool
I didn't know how hard it would hit me seeing the original sourcefed crew again. Just years of nostalgia flooding back, damn I miss it
I feel like one important piece of SF that was left out of this was their routine. The hosts would get to the office crazy early in the morning, find stories, right scripts, film, and edit 5 videos every single day. It was a crazy machine and they all worked so hard. I miss it so much.
Stanz not getting it and calling it unfunny for most of it while laughing hard asf at his own jokes the whole time makes sense
Tbf most of the moments that were picked were kinda ass.
Not mentioning the Steve being Santa Clause but on this deep dive is the biggest miss on any of these deep dives they have dine
santa steve was one of my favs. a little creepy if you didnt know steve and the dynamics of sourcefed, but if you were in the know, it was hilarious.
I loved sourcefed, there was an episode where a coffee machine was going off in the background and steven zaragoza made a joke about it and they made it into a t shirt. I still have that shirt after all these years. I never wear it but it's quite sentimental to me. It was such a great channel and so was Sourcefed Nerd
I still randomly shout out .wait ..... is that a coffee machine ? at times 😂
I still have the "bags of spiders" shirt that kept popping up, Forgot which video it refrenced
I do appreciate these deep dives cause I’ve never seen anything of sourcefed and always wondered what Steven Suptic’s origins are after seeing his among us content
as someone who saw him on sourcefed. its insane how hes like. a successful indie rock musician now 😭
man ive watched steve back when he was a minecraft youtuber YEEEEEEARS ago lmfao
@@KipTMsame, part of me will never not refer to him as mlghwnt lmao
These aren’t even his origins, he was originally a Minecraft RUclipsr lmao, someone else said it but he went by mlghwnt
I really hope you checked out sp7
I’m older than stanz and I find it fascinating all the things he doesn’t know about RUclips and online culture. Guess I’ve just been terminally online since the early 2000’s. Sourcefed funnily enough is what I know the least about of all the deep dives so far. Loved sxephil and the more modern Philip defranco. Just could never really get into it. I can envision a stream where he gets his knowledge tested on older memes. Or maybe a deep dive into the whole know your meme fiasco.
He said on a stream some weeks ago that he doesn't really consume any youtube content himself. Which for a content creator seems not ideal.
@@shansen6969 Or it can be a breath of fresh air. I mean, this format works really well, where Stanz is introduced to popular content or a controversy. If he was well versed in all things online, this wouldn't work. Not every content creator needs to be terminally online. It makes Stanz stick out.
I Stan Joe Bereta and I’m glad you’re reacting to him in some of his past content, a long with the other cast mates involved in Sourcefed (which later a lot of the cast transferred over to the valley folk channel).
Will Haynes was my spirit animal at the time. Was a great voice for introverted performers.
Sourcefed was a lifestyle and its ending made me go through the 7 stages of grief
So excited for the sp7 deep dive some of the best content on RUclips you have to watch why I hired autumn
30:59 hold up that’s THE Steve Suptic like the twitch, among us and music guy. I did not know he had a backstory on RUclips
Steve Zaragoza is so funny man. I can't believe you didn't watch Santa Steve
I was so excited to see William Haynes at chess boxing with you, I’m glad you can see where he got his kickstart!
Honestly i need to rewatch all of sourcefed.. also not including " is it bees?!" is criminal
"Is it bees? Man imagine if it was bees" I literally JUST rewatched that video days ago and still quote that specific line all the time
@caylapeterson2583 I quoted it today out of nowhere comes up way more than it should in my mind lol
I've watched this video before but I paused it again and just quoted the bees part to myself. The drunk riddles mini bee saga is something that always makes me giggle 😂❤
Another fun fact is i think some big corp bought the channel and used it for NowThis news, and people got really mad, they just changed the logos and names and started posting. That had to go back on that.
I really hope the next part includes the Valley Folk with the original hosts and how mindblowing it is that its still not known what happened with Lee being ousted but SP7 is so big there's no way there would be time.
Steven suptic has been in so many group channels its insane that he finally decided to make his own. I forgot the first one but it had basherverse in it.
I believe when it ended there was also a whole thing about Sourcefed Nerds channel being taken over and renamed to NowThis Nerd.
Sourcefed was the first commen ground i found with my wife when we met and started dating! We both watched this channel that helped form both of our senses of humor
This has to be the first of all of these videos Stanz does that ive not watched. Ive watched SP7 and Philly D but the channel itself i never saw
Man I'm so happy they did the news stuff with Steve and Maude, some of the funniest shit ever.
What I remember most about the sourcefed shut down was how NowThis tried to take the channel over and everyone hated them so much they just let the channel die.
As a non-native english speaker who only got into english youtube later on I really appreciate these Caanths deep dives. On most of them I'm totally with Stanz where I've never, or only hardly at best, heard about the people
Steven Suptic has had such a rough career it seems but he seems to have finally rose above it and I'm so happy for him to have found the success he has.
a funhaus retrospective would be so intresting
Big dawg they're still alive lmfao
SF anfmd SF Nerd were truly lightning in a bottle moments
I can't believe there was no mention of the great wiping of Sourcefed and the channel takeover!!
A sourcefed dive where there’s not a mention of “What is that, a coffee machine” is criminal
SourceFed was the reason I got into DnD and now I play every week haha
Sourcefed was my comfort channel when i was 16 😂 its crazy youre covering it 10 yrs later
They better have the coffee machine bit in this
Edit: I am disappointed
I watched it live, just didn’t make the edit! Sorry
@@stanzrelease the Snyder cut 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
this made me feel so nostalgic, i miss sorcefed so much
every youtube deep dive is:
Caanths: isnt this so funyn stanz! this was so funny everybody loved this
Stanz: - _ -
I feel like a similar deep dive could be in Creatures to CowChop.
How you can do a deep dive on Source Fed without mentioning Santa Steve is wild
Dynamic Banter is the place to be now
I also took a class in high school where I developed film. It was slow and only fun probably the first 3 times.
As someone who was an OG sub of SourceFed it was AMAZING to take a walk down memory lane! Amazing job!
I still watch philly D everyday for like over a decade lol and probably watched the majority of sourcefed videos
hope Caanths acknowledges how SourceFed Nerd essentially became New Rockstars which has become massive in its own right now
I think this is the first classic RUclips channel you’ve covered that I’ve never heard of at all, despite watching some early Phillip DeFranco. Cool vid :D
I can't believe they didn't talk about how Discovery tried to upload new content on the channel and the internet rioted
I've never felt more nostalgia for anything more than I have for SourceFed, even though it wasn't even that long ago. That show (specifically Steve Zaragoza, William Haynes, and Steven Suptic) formed my sensor of humor. Seeing it end was heartbreaking and trying to follow the creators in their next adventures was sometimes even more heartbreaking.
I’ve must’ve seen Sourcefed stuff but just forgot, because I recognize Joe Bereta from his time on Smosh but also something else. It wasn’t other stuff he worked on, and some of the video backgrounds feel familiar
Joe's been all over. Before any of this he was one half of the youtube comedy duo Barats and Bereta. Then Sourcefed, then Smosh, he even dipped his toes in Mythical a tiny bit, then the Valleyfolk, and now he's a producer for REACT.
I'm looking forward to the SP7 video because I was somebody who started watching sourcefed from the start, kinda lost interest with all the cast changes and felt like the channel had become a generic, Buzzfeed style, everything video has to be part of a repeatable series to maximise recurring viewership, type of channel but with people I no longer knew or had any affection built up for. And then I watched Steven Suptic's video about sourcefed being cancelled and it was so fucking good that I was immediately hooked, despite associating him with the idea of a generic corporate youtube channel. Honestly, in my personal opinion, the start of what became SP7 was one of the most creative and entertaining things I've ever watched on RUclips. I don't know if it was a but of a product of it's time, with Casey Neistat and vlogging being kinda at their peak around the same time, but I hold it in such high regard.
27:51 when she said “by who? Not you.” 😂
28:17 There really is the full range of emotions in one frame
Honestly those last four hosts were my favourite
Trisha, Maude, Sam, and Joe still have it for me, but honestly there are so few duds in the entire run of the channels
@@ErdTirdMans good memories
Oh wow I too were one of the few thousand that were there from the beginning of sourcefed, to sourcefednerd and till the end! what a wave of nostalgia
Now every time I see that one State Farm commercial with Caitlin Clark, Jimmy Butler, and Reggie Miller, I point at the TV and go "LOOK it's Lee Newton from Sourcefed!!! Because, yeah, that's Lee Newton in that commercial saying "shoot" over and over.
I feel so nostalgic for these videos this was my childhood
How did we do a Sourcefed deepdive and NOT do Santa Steve
We did - didn’t age as well as you’d hope so decided to not include
@@stanzyeah I went back and watched those a little while back and they’re ROUGH. I don’t blame you. A definite product if their time and something that probably overstayed it’s welcome by a fair bit, sadly.
Santa Steve was the best. It's hard to jump into sourcefed videos without knowing their styles of comedy with Santa Steve and Benjamin Franklin Time Traveler being good examples
I have a signed Benjamin Franklin time traveler poster
This spawns the Valleyfolk, SP7, Dynamic Banter, etc. and Steve Suptic is now in the OTV and friends world with his twitch. So many funny people
I had never seen sourcefed, but within 10 seconds I went "Is that joe berretta?" He went on to SMOSH for a bit and now does ValleyFolk I think. Funny guy every place he's gone it seems.
You're a bit behind :-) Joe's been all over. Before any of this he was one half of the youtube comedy duo Barats and Bereta. Then Sourcefed, then Smosh, he even dipped his toes in Mythical a tiny bit, then the Valleyfolk, and now he's a producer for REACT.
they asked my question on table talk when i was like 16 and i freaked out
I was a philly d and sourcefed stan literally as an elementary schooler. My adventure time x sourcefed fanart was featured in one of their fan shout out segments. I am getting my masters now... crazy.
I loved SF and SFNerd - I still can't watch any "NowThis----" videos or read their articles without feeling physically ill.
Loved Sourcefed I was obsessed can't wait for you Sugar Pine 7 and Valley Folk video
Defrancos show, back then, was only 3 to 5 mins. Source: his theme song from the time.
Just realized half of the cast was my bisexual awakening
The twitch chat in the beginning be wilding
I wanna see an achievement hunter/rooster teeth drama video lol
People still develop film. Not common in highschools i assume. But art schools still have it and still lots of photographers who work with film.
Gotta have a gander at the valleyfolk next! (or after sugar pine 7?)
I think stanz would love moviemoviegame lol
wait, is Stanz' background music from like Animal Crossing or something? I just got hit with a wave of nostalgia.
not even one mention of the valley folk and that whole can of worms in this was wild lmao like did he not know that was a thing or smthn?
please do a dive into cow chop, one of the best channels with a huge rise and a slow then suddedden decline, perfect for a long form deep dive
I found out about sorcefed about 2 weeks before they got fired and was so sad, I rewatched that channel so much I loved it
Dude I still have a link to the I wanna Die song's re-up saved to a discord server only I'm in lmao (the original was unlisted for a while but I'm p sure it's gone now). Steven Suptic is a fucking fantastic comedian in his own right and I can't wait for that deep dive.
Santa Steve is still to this day a Christmas tradition for me!
Woah first stanz video where I’m also watching for the first time…
This video is gonna make me cry, the thumbnail alone made me emotional
I love these deep dives!
I’m actually so excited SP7
Dang, I hadn’t heard of Sourcefed since people lamented its shutdown, I still remember when Steven made animated Minecraft content where he killed a bunch of youtubers
I've been checking the channel everyday for the teased Sugar Pines 7 video. I just think Steven Suptic is such an interesting and wild character.
Caanths: This next video is so good!
Meanwhile, Stanz is wondering how to say it sucks without saying it sucks
“What is that a coffee machine?”
What a throwback!!! Thanks cans for getting everything together! cant wati for the sugar pine 7 video O:
I remember stumbling into it when it got obtained by Roosterteeth?? maybe? never really understood it but loved the weird humour of it
Looking forward to the SP7 deep dive, but I ALSO think you could include quick segments of post-SF aftermath with NowThisNerd, The Valleyfolk and maybe a general "where are they now" bit?
I miss them honestly
Sugar Pine 7 is some of the best content that has ever been uploaded to RUclips.
17:25 wtf is a coconut tree? It’s called a palm tree
the problem with these deep dives is that they are so fast, no emotional connection and stanz already kinda knows if he should like or dislike these people
Stanz trying not to laugh at chat during the intro
Lmao Caanths has such rose tinted glasses good for him love him having fun
lil chicken boy and sugar pine 7 coming up soon, damn im so excited and soo sad at the same time.
Mike Falzone is a pretty big comedian in the LA scene now!
