Hey man, I hope you're able to see this. I recorded with Greg Lindholm, the same producer that tracked "This Couch...", "Celebrate" and "Swell". I know exactly what Dylan used to record Celebrate, and likely the next few albums. He used an ESP LTD les paul style guitar with an evertune bridge, with both pickups. He used a JCM800 Kemper patch and a Bogner Shiva, hardpanned left and right. This is straight from the mouth of the guy who recorded them. I hope you see this!
Are you sure that's what's heard on those albums? I've never seen Dylan on anything other than a Telecaster. I'm sure this was a studio guitar if what you're saying is true but I've never seen him with anything but a tele.
@@rabbitguy337 Well, as ridiculous as it sounds the producer literally told us "We recorded everything on this guitar and when we would stop to take photos Dylan would grab his telecaster". Obviously the telecaster is part of his image at this point haha
You were super close. Maybe it's because it's done in a recording studio and the equipment was close to some of what he uses. I think you were close. Have to say, you chose my favorite songs too.
Nice to see a the Equipboard site get a mention, it's a great site. There are some really helpful folks on the forum there too although it's gotten a bit quiet these days.
Great job man. Sounds almost the same like the processed studio versions. Caution couldve used a little raise on the mid lows. But you practically nailed thosw tones.
Oh man "for the sake of brevity" is such a great song. Great song choice! You are really close with your tones. Probably as close as you can get with a different amp. I think I can hear the difficulty of getting the gain structure right: Sometimes I think he has more gain and then in the next second his guitar sound is kinda clean again. I think he usually has a tiny bit more gain, but his playing is so dynamic that he controls it with his fingers a bit more. (or its just a mixing thing or whatever).
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock Much love, Steve! I credit you just as much as Dylan Mattheisen for being the reason I got into midwest emo/math rock and bought a telecaster. I've played guitar for about 16 years and my skills felt like they plateaued very early. When I got into this guitar style, it re-sparked that love for guitar I had when I first started playing. Just wanted to say thanks for making this content and being an influence to something that makes me happy; playing my fucking guitar!
They sound rather different. The widerange have a much higher output and warmer tone. Originally I made a segment about getting similar tone on other guitars but couldn't get close. So yeah, thinlines definitely have their own sound imo 👍

I took my best stab at both Caution and Always Focused on my own channel. Got pretty close with my Iridium on Round Amp, Cab A. Steve is better because he's Steve and way more talented than me. Anyway, here's Always Focused as an example: ruclips.net/video/8QDlEsWkjXs/видео.html
Nice! I was thinking I should've tried that too just escaped my mind when thinking of things to try 😅 after listening to your cover, it definitely has that more scooped mids tone to it 👌

first off, i love your videos, steve. they have taught me so much about this wonderful genre and i couldn't have asked for a better teacher. but please do not make videos like this that practically worships someone who has committed sexual assault, admitted to it, and then said he was all better now just because he went to therapy. therapy doesn't fix what he did in the past, the victim is still irreparably damaged by his actions. this isn't just some small mistake he made, it will leave a permanent impact on the victim's life. as someone who is a victim of sexual assault myself, it disgusts me that he can just get away with this. please don't contribute to him being able to bury the past and continue getting away with a heinous crime. i know you mean well with these videos, but please do better.

your version of “caution” in my opinion sounds EXACTLY like in original song. what a great job, mate. so pleasant to listen.
I think you did a great job replicating Dylan’s tone. Man I love this band.
I love your profile pick, such a good album
omg killjoy from gami gang discord server
Yeah that’s great and all but can we talk about that sweater?!?! I need that in my life, where’d you get it?
Dammit the video is incredible but I gotta know about the sweater too
Reminds me of some of the sweaters from percival, but perhaps from another season. Could be thrifted vintage, who knows.
Such sweaters were worn in the USSR! (Hello everyone from Moscow - I'm with you!)
Haha! Unfortunately, I bought it from a vintage clothing shop about 10 years ago. It's some funky top from the 80s 😅
They have a similar one in green, cream and white right now at Zara
Nailed it man! The Caution transitions were seamless!

Tones are spot on
cheers 🙌
caution was scarily close but always focused felt like it was missing some mids or something, still sounded amazing tho steve!

Nailed the Caution tone dude
It’s also crazy to me that he doesn’t use a compressor. He was telling me when I was at the one concert in Philly
I got a question, can you do something about how to sound like the Japanese band the cabs? That'd be really interesting to find out.

check out the NUX morning star 👍

What’s the song playing in the background starting around 5:25
it sounds so super close and good. maybe just a touch more gain in the first one?

Hey Steve, do you think it's possible Fenders Mustang GTX modeling amp could get close to the Fender Super?
likely! you can get close, just keep in mind that the modeling might not be quite as good as the warmer tube sound, keep that in mind with ur eq
I'd say so. I know it has a supersonic model on there. There are many differences to keep in mind though, however it should sound somewhat like it 👍
Please do chords that sound good with distortion 2 please

Can you still make the stutter effect with a boss DD3T??
Hi steve, I have zoom multistomp pedal 50g and ms-70cdr could I try and emulate those midwest emo tones like dylan mattheisen to Tim Kinsella?
Completely unrelated but in your opinion are dan electros good for math rock?? I just want something a bit different than a tele.
