    Jamal, simply was and is a musical reference in my life, I am a guitarist, but much of what I applied to guitar, harmonies and others, it was through his musicality, I felt like a fish out of water, because I liked a style that was not so publicized here as today, you helped me a lot! God bless your life ! Long live the music, long live the Gospel, long live R&B

    There isn't a difference in how God moves in the hearts and lives of any one individual. God gives grace to all and we can each worship Him freely as believers. But no one can dispute the fact that various types of musical styles will help engage a person heart depending on a person's upbringing, culture, and experiences. Different churches with different styles will reach different people and there can be different styles of music to communicate the gospel to a hurting world. God uses that.

    i´m from Brazil and down here there´s no such thing as black or white churches, but the gospel music is played with those phat chords from the "black" part of your video.
    we tend to play it all bluesy with some jazz mixed in.
    anyway, nice video.

    My point is to be sensetive to the spirit. I Corinithians 9: To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some
    As you see Paul became many things to win the more. That's all I'm saying as a musician is to be sensetive to the people!

    This was a great instructional video. I have not heard the "culture" of music explained in this way, so simple and so true.
    The way that the song is sung is how it will be received depending on Pentecostal, Reformed, ect... I had a friend who is white tell me he enjoys our music but it it so loud and always ends up with the soloist screaming LOL

    • @stanleyshack26
      @stanleyshack26 4 года назад

      That's always been the case some black people want the black sound some white the white sound. Black people were in enslaved in America but they created a sound that never were heard of the blues and gospel and especially the blues had babies jazz, rock and roll, r&b, soul, hop hip, neo -soul, pop tooblack peoople made the blues. Most whites want to hear a white sound not a black sound and most black people want to hear a black sound. There are some black people and some white people who love the black sound and the white sound. But people will have their preferences but they she not be prejudiced against different music styles.

We were killin the worship sound... And everyone was just sitting there staring at us like we were crazy... That's when I realized what it was.

    Blessed. To a lot of the "negative" comments...yes there are stereotypes in this world. But you get what he's trying to say, the whole purpose of this is to give you tools to play in a style the experienced and skilled Mr Hartwell likes; different to perhaps what you're used to. Stop getting bent out of shape over black and white, because we know it's true. I know I'm a better player as a result of this

    I was a drummer at a NYC CCM (very new york broadway production type of sound), coming straight from the south (country mountain white church music middle ground fire and brimstone preaching), and what Jamal is saying is 100% true. I had a hard time playing because there was no emotional queues whatsoever. Even though the southern hick (working class) church music is nothing like black gospel, it still has a sense of "soul" sort of speak.

    • @songueroproductionsllc5963

      Depends on how disciplined the musicians are in that church and how well they can play together. A lot of musicians who can play advanced working with musicians that aren't in that level usually have to play at the level of their fellow musicians so that there can be a strong connection with in the team, unity but when all the musicians know how to play at an advanced level respecting each other in their instruments in a disciplined level, they can pull this off, I've worked with musicians that are beasts in their instruments, but their musicianship with other musicians sucks and they aren't paying in unity, they're just playing to shine which leads to a bunch of advanced noisy musicians showing off.

    • @LatinaSouljah2012
      @LatinaSouljah2012 8 лет назад

      The 104 probably don't have an issue with the music. The thumbs down is most likely because people are still doing songs about Jesus; a person that never existed historically. Some black people would rather place a mythical person that has no face or historic accuracy above their own revolutionaries like MLK and Malcolm; They died for black people, not some white imaginary God from the middle east. It's sad once you learn actual history.

    I hope this lesson was not lost on people. One of the reasons it needs to be simple at CCM churches is because they often will fill the space with guitars. If it's too "chordy" it will clash. In gospel, very often there is just bass player and drums to accompany the keys...sometimes just keys. This is a great lesson.

    I didn't even listen for two minute, but just fell in love with you. You don't just teach how to play, but explain why you play what. You are a blessing, you both.

    Love how you guys are doing this as a couple! That's so romantic. Just singing and playing together for God. That's so cool having someone doing that with as often as you want.

    This is true.... I can see how some people may get offended, but let's be real. Culture has a lot to do with how we worship and how we view a song truly "touching" us or "moving" us. So why not cater to the culture you're trying to reach? God created music to be used ways we can't even imagine. Thanks for the video!

    I really enjoyed the lesson, and I appreciate how you fatten up the chords and all of the other jazzy stuff (I'm a jazz musician as well as gospel and classical). You two are awesome! And it's wonderful to see husband and wife worship together. I pray that you all would continue to worship God and inspire others to do so!

    Jamal...this was actually a very good lesson. Most of us want to play "outside"...WAY outside. I know I do. But....you really have to know your audience. I truly appreciate this lesson. Thank you so much!
