Damn, your videos are criminally underrated. I think I'm finally starting to get the theory behind riffs a bit more. I've looked up scales, and they expect you to know intervals, then you look up intervals and they expect you to know scales. I knew the major and minor scales, but just in an abstract way. No I kind of see how you put them together into a melody. Thank you.
our teacher had come to the lesson late when we learnt about minor scales, and has not explained them since. this video helped me grasp the concept of minor scales better than any video posted by the school board
these videos by this woman are the most underapriciated videos this channel does. With a different channel and a specific niche, They would do so well! Thank you for the videos so far!
Peggy this is the first video I watch in this channel and well this put a lot of pressure on the next one. Fantastic video, clear, well explain and kind of fun. I'm a beginner in keyboard and I feel that I just level up just by watching your video. BIG THANK YOU!!!!!
excellent lesson. but i still can't learn it. what is an elevated 7th note is the 7th key played higher in pitch, tone or chorded? im not good at this theory stuff
For sure. In the key of C minor, the fifth chord would be g minor if you're using the standard natural minor to build the chord. By using the harmonic minor you'll get a raised 7th degree, making the B flat a B natural. This would lead to your major five chord: G major. Hope this helps!
The harmonic scale borrows one accidental from the parallel major key and the melodic borrows two. With those, you can also build chords from the parallel major key.
Peggy, I just discovered and immediately love your videos, the graphics and your teaching are amazing, but why avoid using notation, and the audio on this video seems a bit distorted.?
Thanks for watching. You can find her here for videos like this one, but she also goes as rapper Hua Li. ruclips.net/channel/UCiQ-eW7YmDAfEqkDR5cIEhQfeatured
@landr Can Peggy maybe answer this please? She is very nice :) In the song Get Lucky-Daft Punk, a Rhodes piano is added to the second period of music (bar 9). It is playing the same chords as the progression, but the chords are in first inversion and are played with a different rhythm. I think my question is about chord function, but maybe arrangement? The rhodes is middle in the mix and un-noticeable until you listen for it. But it seems to have an incredible impact on the energy and feel of the song. Reference: ruclips.net/video/XkeIwhKIi84/видео.html Key: F#m Bm7 - D - F#m7 - E Thank you Landr
That's a great observation Ramm S. This definitely ties into arrangement. The rhodes are playing on the off beat eighth notes, adding some forward motion to the music. Layering chords with different rhythms and textures of sound can have a huge impact on the energy of a song.
If a piano isn’t is playing a C major chord and a guitarist wants to play lead during that time, does the guitarist have to play all of the notes in the C major scale or can they just play some of the notes? Thanks. I like your videos.
Can someone point me to a video which better explains the harmonic minor scale. I'm trying to make songs like Eli Sostre who uses harmonic scales but my chord progressions ain't hitting like his like I've been working on the same two songs for about 7 months now and I'm still writers blocked lol
@@LaserBeemya I am still trying to process that comment LOL… I can’t tell if that an attempt at the a cold and clever dig or if the poster has inside knowledge on her living situation…🐷
How do you use minor scales in your music? Do you make cool TLC-inspired instrumentals, too?
Ít is much better to make the whole song more majorly enthusiastical or use a relative in the ending
I use it whenever it needs to sound like a bittersweet symphony just like life itself
I literally learned both major and minor scales in 15 minutes thanks to this video and the previous about major
Wow, thanks
I love how these lessons are simple and comprehensible, I also really like how she includes examples at the end too!!
Ah Thanks so much BK_Bill. Glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much! I had no idea what minors were, and this helped me so much. Very simple, quick to the point, and the visuals were great
My new teacher ya 🤧
Thank you, it helps a lot.
I've watched, and I understood half of what you said, but that's 100% more than basically any other person I've watched
This is undoubtedly the best lesson i've seen here, it's just so easy to understand here. tysm

Thank you for explaining this in a clear and precise way! Scales are so overwhelming for me, im still struggling with all my scales
Glad to hear it!
I just discovered harmonic minor scales from this video, and I absolutely love them now.

Such a great video- thank you!!
You're very welcome Kalee!
very nice. very helpful.

Can you explain a bit further about how the harmonic minor is used to achieve the major fifth leading back to the one chord in harmony?
For sure. In the key of C minor, the fifth chord would be g minor if you're using the standard natural minor to build the chord. By using the harmonic minor you'll get a raised 7th degree, making the B flat a B natural. This would lead to your major five chord: G major. Hope this helps!

Great video. Now, which chords go with each scale? Thanks.
What’s raising and how to raise?can somebody tell?
Thanks for the video!! It’s very helpful!
Raising is moving the key up a half step (semitone). When she raises the 6th, she's moving they key that was meant to be A sharp over one to B.
Amazing video !
Can you please use aime simple vocabulary so i can understand easily
How do you raise the 7th degree of the scale? do oyu just bring it a half step forward? I'm confused
Omg hi peggy! Thanks for the video
i really wanna thank you for this love ... very and i mean very helpful
Glad it was helpful!

The music theory was very informative.
But i have a small doubt. Can i compose a song in 2 scales. Eg. Build up in c minor and drop in c major?
You can use chords from both the scales if they sound good, they are called borrowed chords
really liked the way of teaching.....
Glad to hear that!
But what did you play 2:49-2:51 ? what notes did u play WITH that Ab and A ?
GREAT! Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much. Now I can say that I can derive all three types of minor scales from their Majors. Do you have videos regarding mode.
Not at the moment, but we do have some great blog posts about music modes: blog.landr.com/music-modes/
Peggy Ma'am what is the other musical instrument you are playing?

You should've explained the natural bits you have popping up on screen so we can all understand
I have Greensleeves song for my piano lesson!
nice
❤️ 🎹 🎼
i can actually read music better now
That was all good except the melodic minor descending is the same as the natural minor scale
It doesn't have to be played that way.
dope

I read that the Minor scale is actually a mode and not a scale. I'm not sure if this is correct or what it actually means.

Mic too loud!
Pop filter needed. A little bit of De-easing will clear things up too
The distance from the microphone or the microphone itself is terrible .
Makes it sound like you have a blocked nose aka a cold .
She's just playing the minor scale to this song, right?
