The fact they kept the graphical integrity in tact while making a balls to the walls hard platformer is just absolutely amazing to me. They could have just cheapened everything, but this game nails every tick and adds more to the original story.
Toy Story 2 was also a terrific game, going around as Buzz and firing lasers at your enemies trying to save Woody.
These games did not have to be THIS good, but they are and still stand the test of time.
i get that it was a good while later and you might have never played it, but the Toy Story 3 videogame for the Wii is also a really great game! i spent many afternoons as a child on that one

Jurassic Park is another example on the genesis. I loved that game but damn it was hard.
Toy Story 3 on the PSP/PS2 somehow improved over PS1 TS2 a lot for me. It's much more enjoyable and the definitive toy story game to me

I remember that damned race car level. I beat the game but it took me forever. I was 10 or 11.

I can confirm that this game was really hard as a child. Every few weeks I entered a new stage, I think. And I was never able to beat the game...

I was 6 when this came out and then when I turn 18 I finally beat it its funny how games can be a burden on you when you never could beat a game when you was a kid but when you turn adult you finally beat the game that haunted you for years

I played a number of Disney games back in the day and honestly, as far as i know they were pretty much all this hard

It scared me too and I don't know why. Maybe it's the music? Maybe the realistic look graphics (at the time)? Or maybe the sense of urgency each level brought? Or maybe Woody's spider like extremities freaked me out?
I dunno why but I felt the same way. I got through the game uncomfortably

The Pizza Planet level where Woody is walking in s drink cup is way more forgiving in this video than I remember on the Sega version.

I remember when i was a kid getting stuck on the car driving levels. Eventually i could beat the whole game consistently. Im surprised its that long. Im impressed that my younger self was able to beat the whole thing.
Same here! I used to hate that level as a kid. I remember always asking my mom to do it for me, until she finally told me that I had to learn to do if myself. I eventually learned, and it's now one of my favorite levels!
I wonder if the "Nightmare" level, where Woody is fighting an evil Buzz was based on a deleted dream sequence from an early version of the movie, or something.
i also wonder about that too myself when i first played the game on the snes back in 1995 when i was 10 years old now im 31 years old which i rented the snes version of toy story from blockbuster
yusakug It was. In the dream sequence scene of the movie's early draft, which is only in storyboards, Woody is sitting on Andy's bed while Andy plays with Buzz Lightyear, flying around the room. When Andy turns off the lamp, making the room completely dark, he reveals that Buzz can glow in the dark. Andy tells Woody how cool it is that Buzz can glow in the dark, and when Andy makes Buzz fly up to Woody's face, Buzz asks Woody can he glow in the dark too with a mischievous chuckle, and Andy agrees with Buzz, his face illuminated by Buzz's glowing body, wanting to know if Woody can glow in the dark too, and when Andy finds out that Woody can't glow in the dark, he claims that he doesn't want to play with Woody anymore, and he throws Woody into a trash can filled with trash, and it turns out that Andy's room was in the moving van, and with Buzz in his hands, Andy watched Woody sit in the trash bin until the moving van's doors closed and drives off away from the alleyway, leaving Woody to be swarmed by hundreds of roaches, and Woody wakes up at that point.
LightStreak567 4 years later, Pixar brought the nightmare idea back in the sequel (but focuses on Woody’s ripped arm rather than being replaced by Buzz).
David Gromak Exactly. I'm glad the scene didn't make it to the final draft of the film. Seeing the storyboard scene was enough to send chills up my spine. When I was little back in 1998, the Nightmare Buzz level of this game nearly traumatized me so much I was afraid to fall asleep. The Sega Genesis version of that level's music is creepy as hell.

The jump from NES to SNES had to be the greatest graphical upgrade in the history of videogames if in one gen you get original Mario Bros and in the next you get this.

I had such a hard time with that when I was a kid now that i am grown watching this, I am like how did I keep dying.
They did a good job making the inside of the claw machine look like an actual machine with the mechanical objects.😊 Including Sid's bedroom looking like an abandoned messy room. Sid is a scary kid man.😱

There were some levels on this game that brought tears to my eyes as a child, lol. The first RC level, and just when you thought that was over they had ANOTHER. The ending of Sid's Room (jesus christ, smh) Rollerbob (that was pure overkill), and the Moving Day level. How did I forget The Claw?! God so much rage, lol. Also, this is the one game I feel like Nintendo accelerated on musically. I couldn't imagine it having the tinny grit that the Genesis specialized in.

This was one of my favorite games to play on my SNES as a kid. I could never make it past the boss fight with Buzz under the truck though because it took me a while to figure out you actually had to tie him up with the tire and even then it was hard for me to do so.

To say it was an exception to the library and Traveler’s Tales had to work extra hard to achieve such a feat of the game being so obviously better on the Mega Drive/Genesis not due to the superior hardware and overall design of the system but due to Super human abilities of the developed to FAVOUR the SEGA hardware and CALLOUSLY limit their efforts for the Nintendo system out of SPITE and HATRED of Nintendo.

Back then I was impressed by the graphics. It still looks unique to some degree but somewhat dated.
I never completed it tho, could never make it passed The Claw Machine. Good to actually see the ending for once.

They did a fantastic job with the sprites in this game. Woody's movements look so fluid. At the time this would have been considered a feat of animation in games.
They played Strange Things during the intro, so they should have played You've Got A Friend In Me during the end credits!

Great game. The difficulty picks up in the levels when you're at Sid's house, but it felt good to beat this. The Lion King on SNES was also a tough one.
It's on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It's also on Sega Genesis.
