Takoradi Borgas in US established this group and named it USA, that’s why you see them waving US flags. It doesn’t mean they’re not promoting Ghana their main organizers are Takoradi living in the US so they chose the name themselves and they come every year to support their group
Another group is Canada, it might interest you guys to know during this time Borgas of various groups come to support them and it’s even a competition amongst them

That group is the USA 🇺🇸 CHAPER OF GHANAIANS GROUP IN THE DIASPORA.
They do it out of love ❤ for the group members to tell them they still remember them in the States as family.
People should not think bad about it they representing the country per say.
If you are in Canada 🇨🇦, Jamaica 🇯🇲 anywhere in the world you can come down to celebrate with the local and come represent you country.
They want to bring the whole world together with their your country flag if and only 🚩 you come down to celebrate with them to remember our ancestors who are all over the world in their struggles.

Listen to yourself. Read over your own message and see if it makes any analytical sense. Why is it that when they send money from the U.S. to their family members or orphans, they don't attach the U.S. flag to it? Do those of us living here in the U.S. have to depict or clad ourselves with the U.S. flag in anything we do before God sees our kindness to bless us?

I think 2 groups in Takoradi organized this program because I saw another large group and they are not using any U.S. flag. Their group is mainly Ghanaian and it really looks nice and awesome.

Koo Darkie will always be Koo Darkie! So sad to see an event being organized in Ghana without Ghanaian flags being waved. Anyway, afe hyia pa from West Lafayette, Indiana.

If you care to know Takoradi has been a town with Borgas and I can even say the name borga’s came from New Takoradi and Takoradi itself. If you see flags of US and Canada it means Takoradi borgas in those countries came to establish the group.
You’ll even see competition among those groups when their Borga’s are in town to support them
It doesn’t mean Koo daki cherishes other countries than his own
We have a lot of groups with foreign names; Spain, Canada, USA

I quote "it doesnt mean.[self deprecating words omitted]..... Cherishes other countries than his own. We have lots of groups with foreign names, Spain, Canada, USA"
But the second sentence epitomises the extent of the problem. A quintessential African celebration with europeanised named groups (usa & canada are europeanised) it shows the extent of our pyschological malaise.
We kowtow and elevate others things as superior.
How about some Fante or Ahanta names?
I even hypothesise that this style of celebration may very well have a connection to the Dogon of Mali.
The dance, the masks and stilts is an indication, but do we pay homage to the roots of this event?
As others have mentioned elsewhere the wonderful handmade masks are fast disappearing. The fly whisks replaced by domestic feather dusters. Imagine all the cottage industries that suffer as a result of this switch.
Great that the event is growing and i even recognise their very well may be a 'european' contribution to the genesis of this celebration.
However we are also destroying its essence from within.
In years to come when people hear only usa, spain they may very well believe the concept is wholely imported.
It is like how they introduced Accra carnival - do they know the roots of carnival, try all our Afahyɛ.
In the kouroukan fouga it is said "a lie that persists for 40 years becomes the truth"
If there is anyone in twin cities interested in starting a new masquerade troupe called 'The Dogon' say so here. This will be only for the purists !
If i am not mistaken borga is more associated with the Ghanaian community that ended up in Germany particularly HamBURG

I am asking the same question
And the home made mesh masks not the imported horror masks.
It should be fly whisks not feather dusters.
      We are losing our way

That section of group are Ghanaians from America 🇺🇸 and others diaspora Ghanaians who sponsor them. Anyone who wants to join can come from any part of the world and form their group to represent their country. Or Ghanaians who live in that country in the world can represent them through sponsorship to project their names and their host countries.

Stop defending the indefensible. It doesn't matter where they get their funds. If that's where they live or get their funds from, they are originally born Ghanaians first.

We have USA,Canada, and many more.We also have Supreme so why don’t you say we are advertising them than made in Ghana items🤦‍♀️

I salute the organizers, the brass band guys, and all the participants and audiences. But your weakness is the use of U.S. flags. You have not shown maturity and wisdom. The organizers failed to apply knowledge to regulate that negative conduct.
