Just to explain: the stars in the eyes are just an artistic representation of literal starpower-like charisma - a charisma that is capable of turning lies into truth. Ai had that starpower, and Akane is able to channel that by doing as method actors do and studying every facet of Ai to channel that starpower. Ruby and Aqua only have one of their eyes with stars because they have latent potential, but aren't quite there like Ai was. Their eyes do not literally have stars in them.
It's super interesting watching people assume they're actually there. Like already we've seen Aqua's eye star change color depending on what he's doing. They're not actually changing color.
Ohhhh, that makes sense. It’s why Aqua’s eye shimmers when in vicinity of the cast of the show, but is dull when speaking to himself or speaking his true thoughts.
I've been assuming that it was a kind of manic psychosis or something.

Hearing Akane's VA replicate Rie Takahashi's depiction of Ai so perfectly was insane; I honestly didn't think it'd be that accurate.
VA's are fking crazy, they're so flexible on doing voices

Akane is a method actor (or well, it's equivalent in theather), she becomes the role; she does this in-depth research for all her roles. She was having problems in the show because she had no roles to play, but give her one and she will be the best at it. The acting battle between her and Kanna will be epic.

Being a method actor is just your way of acting. The difference between film and theater acting is that one you get do-overs. The methods are the same.

yeah it's called method acting I believe. Some actual actors will live and act as their character, as well as dress like them, to get into the role. Heath Ledger was a good example for playing the Joker, and that's part of the reason he ended up dying some people say. I also believe Bill Skarsgaard did it for IT when he was playing the clown

It's true that Akane is a method actor but that obsessive behaviour is part of her personality and you'll see her have these kind of moments even outside of research for acting. That scene is meant to introduce you to this aspect of her, which reflects in the way she approches her job.

I know y’all were clowning Akane and calling her gullible and stupid from the previous episode during the reality TV show, but she’s actually the smartest character in the entire series. She’s a method actress who’s deemed a genius prodigy and her deduction skills are out of the world, so it’s no wonder why she was able to perfectly impersonate Ai. She becomes a very important character later on.
she was never stupid, she's a stage actor not a scene actor, someone like Kana is more adept at the internet because all her roles involve some form of screen and ads are normally on tvs and youtube videos given the digital age
while Akane was out of her element as she's normally given a script, she's a lot like Aqua in being able to act once she knows the directors and writers intentions but she views herself as not important so she's constantly trying to adapt to the flow of reality when there is no right answer which is why Aqua says to wear a mask its the easiest way to protect herself but also a way to give her direction when she had too much freedom, Akane works better in a bubble than given absolute leeway

Many People don't get that from the way she talks to her voice tone to her mannerism to her body language, everything was just like Ai. When I was watching the episode for the first time, as soon as I heard her saying "ne aqua" I got goosebumps.

Sheera is right. Akane is a method actor, it is pretty normal for a method actor do fully research the character they play. An example of a Method Actor in the real world is Christian Bale. He takes method acting to the extreme and has been known to physically prepare for his roles by excessively gaining or losing weight in a short time, as well as mentally training himself by taking on another character's mind. The Machinist is a movie that fully depicts the horrors of Bale's method acting.

Akane's method acting is very reminiscent of Kei Yonagi in the Act Age manga to me, which means she has some insane potential to be one of the best characters in the current animanga world if handled properly.
And honestly, her getting so into character by extensively researching literally Ai's entire life was a scary sight to behold, so much so that it wouldn't surprise me if she actually found out about Aqua and Ruby on her own at some point. If the acting world isn't for her, after all, she'd always have the chance to make it big as a PI or something xD

@@mr.protagonist5639 it’s a manga about a Highschool girl (about the same age as the characters in Oshi no Ko) getting into acting to financially support her and her younger siblings, that also quite nicely highlights some of the darker parts of the industry. It ran in weekly shounen jump from 2018-2020 when it got cancelled because - and I don’t know nor do particularly care about the exact details - the mangaka for it assaulted an underage girl
The eye thing is just to symbolize the spirit of Ai. Not literally, but like “carry her spirit” type of deal. No one can see it.
So Akane can match AI’s spirit 100%

I have a feeling she maybe the first outsider to figure out that Aqua is related to Ai. Death Note is where she needed to be back then with that level of observation skills.

Akane is not hurt by the netizens anymore, that scenes of Akane researching Ai is to prove to you the genius in her. Honestly, the deduction level is too terrifying if you watch properly, she literally deduced Ai's whole life and each time she deduced something the anime shown which picture of Ai she referring to. By the end of it, both of her eyes starry shown how excellent she is in this field prove by perfect mimicry of Ai's character.
Gotta give credit to the animation and the seiyuu especially, really mimicking Ai's voice, style and tone so perfectly. It actually made me goosebumps.
If you notice her voiced changes as well. She is playing a part because she is a great actress. She is not wearing contacts. The character's eyes change depending on the part they are playing at the moment. Pay attention to Aqua and Ruby and you will notice the changes.

10:45 actually, the scary thing about Akane is not that she was able to interpret Ai's role, but that she was able to interpret Ai's role that literally NO ONE KNEW. Like, she literally found out a bunch of stuff that were part of Ai's particular life, which only that one producer and her kids knew, that's a way deeper analysis skill, more like Sherlock Holmes from Akane, which shows how good she is when it comes to dig into the character. Loved it!

It's probably Stanislavski's method, she didn't just act like Ai, she became her idol persona
After psycho-analyzing her she probably figured out all the subtle tricks she used to draw in her audience, easy for a theatrical actress
She also tried to figure out how her actions could be affected by the mental trauma left from her upbringing and later her idol life.
And finally, she made herself emulate all of it, that is why she seemed so unhinged, because she wanted to get herself into the same state of mind as Ai.
Between this and Eminence, Sheera's commentary and takes have been SO fuckin on-point lately! Keep at it 👍

I think she also read interviews and stuff like that so it wasn't JUST pictures and videos still very impressive she isn't called the world's greatest detective by the fandom for no reason.
That's the whole point. A less skilled actor might copy mannerisms and vocal inflections, but understanding someone from the inside will be more natural and true to character. Take Ai's walk - Akane said she took long strides. Easy enough to copy. But if you check what she also observed about Ai not coming from a good home or being poorly educated, that simple walk becomes the walk and talk and dance of someone with nothing to lose.
It's the difference between an acquaintance making you French food bc you told them you love French cuisine and a close friend making you home cooking because they know you haven't been home in a while and you get homesick this time of year.

A fun fact of Oshi no Ko:
Rie(Ai's VA) mentioned that during the audition of oshi no ko, she originally was aiming the role of Akane because she is the fans of the manga and likes Akane. She strongly offer herself to the production team by voicing some Akane's iconic line. A few days after the audition ,the team call and told her that they had to declined her offer for the role of Akane brcause they found a more suitable VA for akane but they love to offer Rie the role for Ai instead. So now we know why.

Depending how deep in-character she is, Aqua may find a clue about what kind of guy the real Ai would be with and then cross reference anyone who was working with her at the time.

Meanwhile Akane figures it out by watching a video and realizing Hikaru is basically just Aqua.
She's not screwed in the head, she's a method actress, she researches every little detail about the character she's going to play so it is as close to the original as possible.
The fact that Akane was able to deduce things from Ai’s life like finding someone special, having sex, etc by just looking at publicly available information and then being able to perfectly imitate her is truly amazing, especially since it was done in quite a short amount of time
Think about it from a manga perspective where you can't hear how she talks or see how she carries herself, just giving her the star eyes is the easiest way to tell the reader that she's nailing her Ai impression
The way they drew her was more than enough though.

6:25 nah, she didn't set up the camera there, she just knew it was there and didn't stop rolling. she's more suited to reality shows, not only in knowing how to interact and tug-and-give with the guys, but also in that she knows the show's not above keeping the cameras rolling. some ppl are thinking she's bad, but if they showed the whole scene, yuki smoothing things out with akane with the apologies would've protected the both of them - it was only after editing that the scratch absent of the apology made akane look antagonistic. that she was so upset with akane after akane's attempt should make it clear that she does care about her.
11:42 akane's just super good at profiling characters. it's explained later. the star eyes aren't an actual thing people see - for me, i like phrasing it as them being in the zone. whether lit up or dark to me depends on the nature of their motivation.
I never understood how people don't get that the Ai's eyes are meant to be metaphoric. That's why the stars didn't appear until she was told she could be an idol, why they faded away (along with the star in the sky) when she died, and why Aqua's turn black with his mood. There's literally dozens, if not hundreds, of little aspects throughout the show to tell you that the they aren't meant to be taken literally.

the wall akane made is called a mood board and it helps artists understand their craft and the concept they try to make. its totally normal for artists to do research before doing their art.
What Akane does is called method acting its where you get into the role as best as possible its why she's a amazing actress she ain't unhinged as Shera said alot of real actors do this

Its called method acting its when an actor immerses himself in the role essentially becoming the individual they portray
An IRL example of a Method actor would be Cillian Murphy who played Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders theres varius interviews where he himself confirms that he finds it hard turn the off switch after work when he was playing Shelby and would remain "in character" even at home
The stars in the eyes are purely symbolic of their psyche . Thats why Aquas occasionally dims or goes dark when he has sinister thoughts or gets depressed

Just a clarification, the shine/star in their eyes isn't optical or seen like a special eyes visually by other characters, it's just a representation of the following: a character's confidence/whenever they're lying (white star) or in a negative state (dark star). She didn't put contacts on.

The stars in their eyes are not a physical trait. Like you were saying, they are a literary tool to show you the “it factor”, or the star power, so to speak, that the characters possess. In the same vein, they depict Aqua’s mental state whenever he starts getting sinister by turning black. In Akane’s case, she did such a good job portraying Ai’s radiance that she took on that “star power” charisma. Hope this makes sense
There are actors that investigate the character to become the character. Analyze their thoughts and patterns. I think it's called method acting. Nothing particularly weird about it, it's just the mindset of a pro and one method of being that character.

I'm also an Anime only so my take is that the end confirms to me that the Hoshinos don't have the literal star shaped eyes as a physical feature and also it's not an anime thing that everybody just passes over/takes for granted.
The star in their eyes are a metaphor/symbol for maybe the star factor or whatever it may be symbolizing. It's just in this moment or maybe starting from this moment, Akane is so good, at internalizing that symbol or that unique quality that Ai had, that to Aqua and to us the audience, we see them glittering and star shaped
There is another symbolism with the star eyes. And yeah it depends on whether its a light colored star or a black colored one.
Fun fact: It was confirmed that the story of this show happens in the same universe as Kaguya-sama (some years after the end of the series). In fact, the manga adaptation that Kana and Aqua were part of is based on the same shoujo manga that the Kaguya-sama characters were reading on S2 episode 7.
Akane is shown to be an amazing method actor kinda like Daniel Day Lewis and such. She utilizes a technique called the Stanislavski's system where the actor essentially takes a deep dive into studying and learning about their character. They learn everything they can and throw their entire being into becoming and thinking like that character. It's very similar to what Heath Ledger did when he prepared to play the role of Joker.
