That Requiem-for-a-Dream-title-drop of a gag that you choose is absolutely high tear also, tho. The wild card is her mega-excitement about some bolts and shit in the department store. The voice actress just sells that energy like no other there. Oh, and when she scolds her mittens in S1, just cracks me up. The heavy-hitter is her getting her shit together prior to the final song, I guess.
oh my god I remember that bit, they draw it out for so long too it's perfect. The mittens line is a favorite, I mostly remember the bolts scene because of the drill gun thing she does. All the scenes where she's actually serious about something are winners. All great choices!

Also I do just wanna say I really appreciate the effort you put into highlighting the complexities behind Yui's character. For me that's one of the biggest strengths of the show, the way every character feels real with nuances behind their actions, quirks, thoughts, and emotions, so having a video that's more or less all about that is nice.
I heard about K-ON from the video game osu! and specifically learnt about Kira Kira Days, and one day went to look at the lyrics. They are peak positivity, love and also representing what the Light Music Club was about during their year there. Love: “...But, you see, a real treasure chest is inside my heart I've become aware of an everlasting treasure just by being near everyone It's strange, fun, pleasant, delicious, cute and lovely...” Positivity (looking forward for tomorrow, for example): “...Perhaps we're supposed to cherish the day, every day Time's passing by in fast forward - it may be wrong but I can't wait for tomorrow...” What the Light Music Club was about: “...Just being like this is great; it's fine as it is I'll sing my favorite songs and have hot tea with everyone...”
This made me realize osu! is the perfect game for introducing people to K-On. I also really like how their songs are so genuine and filled to the brim with their positive outlook on life
I have never seen this show, i planned to watch it but was already spoiled multiple different times but neverminded it. However you can tell when writing is good when it can still hit like a truck to someone who doesnt know these people. also I feel like this channel is going to boom after a bit due to how incredibly bingable the content all is

Not only because it's such a perfect moment of characterization that captures the essence of other heavy hitters like U&I and the aura quote while also providing a deeper look into Yui's insecurities, her resolve to grow past those insecurities, and how much the Light Music Club matters to her on a personal level, but also because I have my own anecdote. I actually cried at this scene because of how close it hit to home, in my case as a trans person who only recently came out. The concept of telling your past self that you're going to make it and everything is going to make sense given time was a very powerful thing for me given my unique situation and, like you said, I found it to be very inspiring. Even if I don't think I'm where Yui's at, it makes me believe I'll get there, that my insecurities are ultimately fleeting. It also made me reflect on what I do have; how frankly lucky I am to have friends and family who are there for me, even if there are those who aren't, even if I beat myself up sometimes. It's a reminder that things will get better for me. I said in other comments that I relate to Mio a lot, and this is why that is. But I also said that I felt like Yui resembled me more and I think this quote in particular is a highlight of that feeling.

I saw K-on about a year before I started playing guitar gotta say coming back to it after starting to play gives a different perspective. Definitely makes some things more relatable like Mugi not being able to play an F major or Azusa's all too relatable quote "I did have my eyes on a few effects pedals" and yes even Yui running back home to get her guitar. It's really about that familiarity for me anything with a nice flat fretboard and a D shape neck feels like an old friend and anything built to shred just feels right

It's not only another example of "haha Yui, wtf are you thinking?", but also it cements her as the MVP of the group. This happens in the winter episode where everyone is alone and have their own conflicts, and there are a couple of moments where the coldness and melancholy of winter is broken by the light in the darkness that is Yui. Here is the most noticeable one because at this point everyone in the group is at the peak of their conflicts. Mio thinks she wasted her day and has no inspiration, Azusa has a crisis with Jun's cat, Mugi has an accident in her part-time job and feels overwhelmed by her failure, and Ritsu is confused about the letter and her first experience with love. But all of it doesn't matter at the moment that Yui sends that stupid question to all of them, taking all of them away from their problems. That chapter is genious.
@@Totaraum Thanks, now that I read what I wrote, I forgot to mention how Yui didn't actively helped her friends in that episode (with the exception of Azusa, where she went to Azusa's house to help). It was her personality alone what makes her special, what makes her the emotional anchor of the group, and make them realize (now that they are more relaxed) that their problems weren't so big as they thought.

It may not be the best anime or even KyoAni’s best, but K-on! is my favorite anime. Love the songs, the characters and all the mundane things they do together. Anyway I voted “other” because my favorite Yui quote is “you guys aren’t very good.” It’s not the best anime, but it’s still my favorite anime. Also it bring the show full circle even if Azusa says it in the end.

The soy sauce and Sugar incident in my opinion is base on how Yui brains work, she saw obachan ("the neighbor") and she always give her treat. So her main got twisted into sugar.
I agree with you, the florist scene has got to be one of the funniest scene in the whole series, also the contrast of Yui's stupidity and her genuineness was a very great thing to do
thanks for the video, I didn't know that U&I lyrics was helped by UI in the manga, just another example that KyoAni elevated a normal comedy mange into an anime classic. It would have diminish the power of the song if they kept that in the anime. Yui is definitely not stupid, she appears to be so, but she simply isn't in every sense of this word. She managed to pick up all kinds of guitar techniques by herself, without even knowing their names, she scored 100 in a make-up math exam when she had only 1 day to cram for it, and don't forget at the end of the show they all qualified for the Joshi Uni that is "challenging" to get in. She managed to perform in two live shows (the school fest and new student fest) within one year of knowing nothing about guitar. And in the episode where they did a gig at a club, she was the one to quickly make friends with a "menace-looking" punk band (probably, or death metal maybe). And she has the ability to pull people who are more capable "by the book" (Mio, Nodoka) around her and help her wholeheartedly. These are not a mark of stupidity, but leadership.
When I saw the video was 15 minutes long I thought it would have a lot of quotes. I was wrong. After 4 minutes of hearing you talk we got 2 quotes. Less talk more quotes next time.
I think she might be neurodivergent due to her behaviors, quotes and the way she gets distracted by her surroundings and her interests very fast. Also her affection to her guitar might be a sign too.
