Love how low key industrial this track sounds, like something out of the Armitage III anime movie soundtrack.

The game is part of the dark fantasy genre

Got this day one so I was 19, good old PS1 hooked to 21inch CRT, Scart Cable (UK boi) had a gaming stereo set up with a (albeit now weak ass) sub woofer. This game and Chrono Cross, the music, the feels. Climax of the Grayland Incident is godlike also

This has a real Mass Effect vibe to it somehow. Love this score; ever noticed how similar it was to Mark Snow’s XFiles until Sakimoto mentioned it in an interview

yooo I never thought of it that way, but I can totally get it

True dat. Matsuno thought Sakimoto's original score felt too classic high fantasy, light and upbeat, when he actually wanted something more dark, eerie, and foreboding (Dark Souls before there was Dark Souls). Matsuno recommending Mark Snow's work on the X-Files (among others) re-energized Sakimoto and Vagrant Story's brilliant soundtrack was born.

I dunno if you still use this channel, but I would be really interested in a sort of re-rip of the Ape Escape On The Loose OST but like grab them from the files within the rom rather that record them in game, because who knows, maybe it will present some unheard intros to the song like Peak Point Matrix, since you don't hear the intro to the song the original had but it may still be there just not heard in game. Plus, the rips would sound much better as well.

the_ally235 I still use the channel but rarely upload anything new anymore as I dont have much time outside of my work life now. And unfortunately I dont know how to actually rip the music from PSP roms, sorry :( search 'Ape Escape Originape Soundtracks' - it's sort of like a mishmash of the original PS1 versions and the PSP versions of the music, some of them sound completely different and are quite good.
Otherwise, maybe someone else out there will get around to doing a clean rip of the music from the game
