I saw the Wagakki Band in Tokyo 3 years ago and the video does not do them justice. They are amazing live and I met them backstage and they are so humble and cool. I really hope you get to see them live one day. Stay safe.

wiki has the list, shamisen is the 3 stringed guitar, wadaiko is the Japanese drums, koto is the instrument the 'harp' and Kiy0oshi is a guy :), and shakuhashi is the 'flute'. The shakuhashi player is nicked named 'Professor' because he is a college instructor, and the singer has a masters in piano. She can literally play any piano piece she hears back. The shamisen player is a former idol singer that destroyed her voice and THEN learned shamisen.

I'm so glad to see you appreciate Wagakki Band - I've been addicted for a couple of years now. This is my favourite music video of all time, and I grew up in the era of classic MTV, so that says something hehe. Seriously, I strongly encourage you to seek out their live performances as well, which are truly epic. Looking forward to more WB from you guys :-)

Well, that was totally unexpected! Definitely a high-energy composition. This is the first time I have heard this band. Great reaction, as always!

I think 'the banjo' is a shamisen. The fusion of modern and classic instruments is really well done, and played incredibly well.
There are t-shirts already on order (from another band, not found via Amazon) but they look as if they will be a long time in shipping, and a quick check shows Amazon carry shirts from the Wagakki Band, so .... just need to check shipping! ;)

In the center section of the song I was reminded of a phase that bluegrass music went through in the mid 1960's. The best example of that time is "Dueling Banjos" done with great musicians like Flatt and Scruggs or Roy Clark and Buck Trent. The shamisen is similar to a banjo. Anyway, for a few years I watched Hee Haw (TV show) for the humor and I loved it when Roy Clark would just tear it up with someone like Johnny Cash (i.e. Wabash Cannonball).

I liked Roy Clark when he guest stared on The Beverly Hillbillies and The Odd Couple. As a kid the Hee Haw donkey was my favorite cartoon.

For your information, the banjo-like instrument is "Shamisen", the harp-like instrument is "Koto", and the flute-like instrument is "Shakuhachi" All of them are essential to Japanese traditional music. And also Wagakki band sound!(^^)! A comment from Japan again(^^)v

One of the best things about tuning in to a reaction by Dana's Faith is getting to listen to music you don't hear everywhere else! Great job, girls, as always!! Please add Canada to your list of places to react to music from (we do have more than Rush, you know!). How about "Roller" by April Wine??? Continued success to both of you with your excellent channel!!

Great music! A little heads up, the bamboo flute is a shakuhachi, the banjo looking instrument is a shamisen, those old looking drums are taiko drums and that stringed instrument that sits horizontal is a koto. Another good video of theirs is “Strong Fate”…I think you’ll like it!

Beni plays a Tsugaru-style Futozao (Thick Neck Size) Shamisen. The sharp, flashy style of tsugaru was played in the streets by the bousama (blind musicians) who developed a more lively style.Blind musicians at the beginning of the 20th century, including Shirakawa Gunpachiro, Takahashi Chikuzan and sighted players like Kida Rinshoei developed a new style of play,
based on traditional folk songs ("min'yo"), but with a lot Improvisation and eye-catching finger work. This style - known as Tsugaru-Jamisen, after the native region in northern Honshu - is relatively popular today in Japan. The virtuoso tsugaru jamisen style is sometimes compared to bluegrass banjo. The classic pick is called Bachi. The koto is a Japanese zither and the national instrument of Japan. The bamboo flute is called a shakuhachi and the second drum kit is a wadeiko The singer's very broad vibrato is typical of Shigin, a traditional poem concert style.
Suzuhana Yuko, the singer of the Wagakki Band, began studying the piano at age three and shigin from age five. She graduated from the Tokyo College of Music’s Piano Program. Yuko is currently active as a shigin instructor, singer-songwriter, and pianist. Dancing to shigin with a fan only is called Senbu (literally, "fan dance") or Shimai (literally, "poetry dance").

Initially, the vocal keyboard "Yuko Suzuka", the koto "Kiyoshi Ibukuro", and the shakuhachi "Daisuke Kaminaga" performed. .. It was a group called "Hanafugetsu". Yuko was the winner of Shigin (a classical performing art that sings ancient Chinese and Japanese poetry in a unique chanting style), and the latter two experienced many overseas performances at the request of the Japanese government. After that, from Yuko's selfish "I want to sing Vocaloid", the current members gathered to form a Wagakki Band, and in 2014 they made their CD debut with "Vocalo Zanmai". They usually work individually and take the form of songwriting and gatherings during concerts. Also, since I moved to Warner Records about two years ago, it seems that earlier videos have been blocked due to copyright issues.
