  • Sara, one of our surgical nurses, explaining compression that will be worn after liposuction to the arms and bra line.
    Arm Compression after surgery:
Depending on your procedure you have done you will have compression garments that you will go home in. You will be placed in compression immediately after your surgery. When getting arms completed you will also have to get compression gloves with just finger tips exposed to prevent your fingers and hands from swelling. The only permitted time of being out of compression post-operatively is while you are in the shower, then you will put them right back on after. It is important to be sure you are putting the compression on properly, you do not want to put holes in the compression or cause irregularities that may hinder your results. To put on compression you will start in the wrist area and slowly pull up, you will work that fabric all the way up the arm. If you are doing the arms you need to make sure that this gets all the way up to the axillary crease, if it is stopped short it's going to cause a permanent lobule there. It's going to be very important throughout the day for you to check and make sure that it is pulled up as far as it can go into that groin crease. We have different sizing options to place patients in and it can be different per patient. If you have any problems with not fitting properly you just need to let us know please do not cut the compression or alter them in any way, these can again hinder the results of the areas treated. You will be in these compression for at least 2 months after surgery, that is why it is so important that they are put on properly.
