was vacationing and camping across Wyoming last month, I was amazed at the total stupidity of all those who have never ventured outside the concrete jungle. (most happened to have CA and NY plates) People just across the road taking pictures of a mamma and baby brown bear, literally JUST across the road, people within 20 feet of a bison, some idiot trying to approach a male elk, someone taunting a rattlesnake. Honestly, if I saw one of them attacked, I'd just laugh and let Darwin win another one.

Born and lived there for 25 years...I don't care where you're going...after September 1st...put a good sleeping bag, extra blankets, extra gloves, heavy boots, warm socks, stocking caps, flashlight, RED flags, plastic bags, rope or chain. gas can, battery starter [small portable electronic]. basic tools and first aid, chocolate, snacks, in your trunk! ... this isn't just for you...because in these long stretches....you might just save your life, or somebody else's! In warmer months add extra water. but remember it still gets cold and night so leave some warm stuff in there! Where ever you go take a windbreaker jacket and a sweat shirt...slickers are great too. With miles of no cell phone coverage you may need to flag somebody down and have them call for help at the next town. Keep all you numbers handy ...write them down!! in case your phone dies!! Buy maps that show all secondary roads and a compass and learn how to read and use them! Forget Siri...she doesn't come to the High Lonesome!

I lived in both Utah and Colorado many years and they have nothing on Wyoming for lightening. And while Wyoming doesn't get as many tornados as other states (I live in Texas now, there's a whole book of things that want to harm you here !); there is no place to go in Wyoming during a tornado warning. Still, as many times as I have been in Wyoming, it is one of the most wonderful states I've ever been in and I have nothing to complain about when I visit.

We have a lot of wolves in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I see them in my yard in the winter. In the middle of December I heard three packs of wolves howling from North, East, and West. My house is only one mile North of Lake Michigan. We had a season a few years ago for them via lottery. The total allowed to be taken was 25, guides were required. Only 23 were taken. I have seen over a hundred in the last 5 years. Saw four today. We have cougars too that have migrated from out West. Only seen one of them UP here. DNR says there are about a hundred. The Feds have them both listed as endangered in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Which is just wrong.

I was in Yellowstone and a young girl about 12 years old. Tried to pet the pretty Elk cow ( with calf) ) needless to say she was lucky and will never do that again. That cow kick with its hind leg but hit a tree. Big noise and a lot of bark flying. In California we can't do much at all about mountain lions
I believe that they need some controlling but not the fish and game. And I remember seeing one rattlesnake at Alcova reservoir but a long time ago I also saw some Elk tracks there also. And I know what Elk tracks look like compared to deer and antelope. February look really mean.

#1 any animal in Yellowstone that a tourist tries to pet or take pictures with. Have witnessed this too many times living in Wyoming for 39 years. Especially snowmobiling in the Park. Bison like using the trails. I can't tell you how many times I have warned tourist about Bison and moose. Speaking of moose. Definitely one you need to have at the top of your list. 3 times I have been charged by moose. All during hunting season. And I know of other people be charged by moose. Cows with a calf are the worse. I love your number 9 plate. They are really bad! Agree with your number 1. I use to elk hunt on Union Pass road area between Raspberry and Strawberry creek. Someone was always having grizzly in their camp. We were extremely careful with everything food toothpaste trash deodorant. We slept in a wall tent. Once we had a kill we thought it down to a locker in Dubious until we filled our tags. I cut up my own meat but no way I was hanging it in a tree at camp. Mountain lions yeah highly dangerous. Been stalked by two lions over the years. Again mostly during hunting season. Very sneaky cats. I personally never had trouble with wolves after me. Had seen many of them. Since you have been a local for awhile have you ever heard bears and wolves that have been caught by the Game and Fish dept. In Yellowstone Then transfer to a different area tend to be a bit aggressive compared to ones who haven't? My outfitter friend from Cody claims it's true. He's been outfitting in Cody area for almost 30 years now. Which do you know about the Three Ss? I had coyotes in my camp more than once. Upper Green River lakes have a lot of coyotes. Never had trouble with them but they are nosey animals. If I was to pick a plant I would choose lupine. Beef cows like eating the flowers. Then when the peapods start tourist think it's wild peas. Doesn't kill you right away but eventually will if not treated. Into The Wild Chris Mc Candless died from eating the pods. I can't remember your first name but just wanted to tell you I'm proud to have you as a fellow Wyomingnite! You and your wife had done a great job fitting in with the rest of us. I know it's not easy because Wyomingnite like their ways and don't it to change here. And I too love our Wyoming ways. Makes this the best state to live in just my opinion. Wyoming is a state of freedoms! And a very beautiful one to boot. I once was a transplant long time ago. Just fresh out of high school. From the midwest. Think you missed the Jackie! Super dangerous.😁
Sorry this got a little long. Enjoy the Big Wonderful Wyoming! Use to map flaps on all the pickups when I first moved here in 1979. February is one cold and windy month. Fall is the time of the year. 👍✌🤠

The prevalence of sexual cannibalism, a behaviour in which the female eats the male after mating, has inspired the common name "widow spiders". This behaviour may promote the survival odds of the offspring; however, females of some species only rarely show this behaviour, and much of the documented evidence for sexual cannibalism has been observed in laboratory cages where the males could not escape."

Regarding the Latrodectus hesperus (Western black widow) yes they have medically significant venom. However they are extremely docile. There is no documentation of a male Latrodectus bite, their venom glands are significantly smaller, and there for not considered "medically significant". The adult females do not bite the heads off the male (you are thinking of a Mantis) they will only kill the male if there are not other food sources around.
The big reason I have an issue with this being on your list.... the Latrodectus (genus) is in every state in North and South America... so Wyoming is not unique in this

I would add one more to your list, which could perhaps be #1... hunters. Too many are scared of their own shadow and ready to shoot at anything that moves.

I watched the C.Roberts video, and investigated the CURRENT Wyoming laws, which allow and encourage, animal abuse. I would state the most dangerous animals in that state are the Psychopathic residents.

I agree, just don't understand why tourist, and some regulars residents are still trying to get a close picture with Buffalo, Elk, and Bears? I'm from the Great Smokies National Park area, and seen beyond stupid adults trying to force the issue with thier children to get closer to a Black Bear Sow with cubs. We also have Elks ect., I have to wonder if people even watch or learn anything from these videos? It also seems all National Parks have Rangers that think they are John Wayne: they haze animals that pose no threat to humans, they just get thier kicks. We all wonder why animals do what they do? Duh! This is a great video: please people take this man's video serious, stop trying to be a static.

I take offense to the notion that the buffalo don't want to be my friend. And bears? REALLY? All they want is to be friends and eat berries. You could just ask my Cockerpoodle, except he got mated by a wolf and that kinda changed him.

Be respectful of the animals - you are in their home. Also, the rope halter on the horse doesn't fit properly - the noseband needs to ride higher up the nose so it doesn't inflict pain. Do things properly or don't do them.

Dave as usual you sound like you think Wyoming is only the northwest part of the state, that's really funny, you need to get out more. One of the main things that will kill and does kill people every year is not being prepared for the elements. If you are traveling in the winter be prepared with blankets, food and water in your vehicle in case you get stuck. Know the route you are going. If you happen to take a wrong turn it could be your life at stake. Wyoming is big and there aren't always going be people to give you directions.

    • @TheWyomingProject

@@TheWyomingProject You mentioned avalanches I believe. If you are driving say from Douglas to Upton you are not going have an avalanche. You might get stuck and have to wait for help and that might be for a couple of hours or more. An avalanche class is not going help you there.
