This episode is good but it doesn't make full sense unless you watch the previous one where House Plots Revenge Against an Old Enemy here: ruclips.net/video/HmNlGUCLi-w/видео.html
Lol everytime
@@dcrawf00 Haha it has to be done!
The moment I saw the word Intersex, I genuinely audibly gasped. That was such an early guess. Seems like you're in a very unique position of having seen so many episodes through a medical lense that you can combine your medical knowledge and your knowledge of the show.
Or he has seen the Episode before like probably 85% of people interested in medicine and between the ages of 12 and 35 in the 2000s have... At some point the show was almost like the Breaking Bad of it's day.
@@morbvsclz
I can bet he hasn't seen all these episodes before. While he has made a lot of guesses in many episodes, he rarely gets them right on the first try (he does get it ¾ of the way in). Which is credit to the show ofcourse or if the episode didn't reveal symptoms corresponding to the diagnosis.
This one was just a one off case which he nailed on the head.
@morbvsclz so why should he pretend not to have seen it, you tell me.
@@musical_lolu4811 "Everybody Lies" would be the reason, but I don't know if he is lying or not
Wow, you called that one so early! I definitely thought this was going to be an episode you would miss the diagnosis on. Your understanding of the writing and themes of the show is definitely helping out.
Nice call Sermed!
The different framing of what House was saying about can't touch her for three more years reminds me of something from the first episode of an anime called Oshi no Ko. (also now is a quick spoiler warning for the start of the first episode, not super spoiler kind of thing, but the episode is best gone into blind for anyone that decides to watch) During the first episode the main character is a doctor telling a story about a patient he met during his residency at the hospital he works at. She was 12 years old and a huge fan of this idol group, specifically the main girl of the group who was the same age as her. She was talking about the idea of being reborn as a celebrities child, having good looks and connections right from birth, which the doctor basically said enough with this reborn idea, instead when she gets discharged she should become an idol and he'll be her fan. She then gives the doctor a hug saying she loves him and that he should marry her. He said that would be social suicide, and that she should ask him again when she turns 16. She died soon after, only 12 years old. There was lots of people that seeing that scene jumped straight to him being a creep, meanwhile I always assumed it was a guy knowing this kid wouldn't live much longer, and rather than crush her spirits by turning her down, he let her have some hope about the idea in the future. Although I think House was much more on the creepy side of things even though I do still see it the way you described.
It took 4 minutes after me saying "he's never gonna get this one" to be proven wrong
Dozens of cool, slightly obscure, but at least reasonable diagnoses... DrMezher: "What could this possibly be?"
Teenage supermodel walks into a clinic with the sweats, cataplexy... DrMezher literally 5 minutes in: "You know what would be wicked is if she actually was a dude and had testicular cancer but it was all hidden by this condition that prevents testosterone from working properly."
Like... how the heck is THAT the one you get right?
When you said that guess I got excited cause I remembered this episode and was like. "He got it"
04:00 A new record?
I think it has to be!! Total fluke has to happen eventually after 60 episodes haha
definitely! I was extremely surprised because the diagnosis is nuts (even more than usual with House, I think) :D
@@reallollabunnyIt literally is "nuts" 😂
Great job on the diagnosis! I'd never heard of that condition before watching this episode, but never forgot it either. Lol
Just... HOW?
That's a surgically well guessed diagnosis if I ever saw one xDD
Well, good to know you stepped up your game, no more slingshots against bazookas 😄
Hi @Joseph!!! I was just as surprised by this as you are 🤣.
I guess after reacting to as many of these as I have then it was bound to happen eventually.
The question is: will lightning strike twice? Only time will tell!
Great to have you here as always, sorry for the late response (I’ve had a lot going on that I’ve been trying to balance at the moment) and thank you for your ongoing support as our first ever channel member :)
17:45 beautifully said, Dr Sermed. Well said!
It's what kept many of us hooked going through med school and beyond. And even though I don't practice the profession any longer, it's still the reason I on occasion keep tabs on such material as your videos.
An analogy I started thinking of recently, along the lines of your 'worlds within worlds' here, is the idea of 'subatomic' or 'quantum' realms that feature in superhero movies, or the 'cells at work' stuff people talk about, and having to learn about and navigate through these rich, complex and practically endless 'universes'. What's more amazing is to realize how there's yet a higher order universe even bigger than we can possibly imagine beyond this one planet. Totally blown!
3:55 wooooooah! And here I thought your myasthenia gravis diagnostic guess could not be beat! Congrats.
I am convinced you have seen this episode before this video was made. That diagnosis in incredibly wild to make before you have had any real symptoms.
Wow you nailed it right off the bat! Way to go, doc
I absolutely love the video. First time viewer of your channel, but I'm here for it. Kudos on the quick guess; I, like everyone else in the comment section, was quite shocked. It actually made me laugh out loud in that surprised sort of way. (Note: I wrote this comment as I watched, that's why I start with "I love the video" and then get to "I really take issue with one of your comments...".)
My initial guess for "how many women have breast implants?" was ten to forty percent; quite a wide range, but it changed as I took different things into account; i.e. number of women I know with implants, the stigma against them, considering other cultures, etc... I decided on 40%, then googled it; I was *way* off: in the U.S. it's estimated to be just under 5%. Oof... And obvious when you think about it, but also, people talk about them so much it makes it seem more common than is actually plausible.
On a different note, I think that the things houses says about the patient constantly are wildly inappropriate for many reasons:
-The first is that she's underage is one, but that's just the most obvious problem.
-Another is the fact that she is his patient, and it is extremely inappropriate for a doctor to be making such comments about a patient (the younger blonde guy did much better in that when she called him cute, he merely smiled politely, said if she needed anything or anything changed to call for them immediately, and then went to leave the room; way more professional).
-You shouldn't talk about anyone like that. If she was a stranger on the street, it would practically amount to catcalling.
And the thing is, this is all laughed off as just "that's ol' doctor house for ya, what a silly goose that guy... haha...". But no. His comments are genuinely disgusting at times.
"...playing death chicken with his patients...". So spot on; I love it.
I love the comment about the tribe in South America who's name I'd rather not embarrass myself trying to spell. The viewpoint is absolutely fascinating. I will say, however, going out on a limb here, they probably mean "in front of" in this case as "something you can see" like you said, and the rest of the world usually means it more as a direction of travel; which ever way you face, the future is what you'll run into next, and the past is the stuff you've already careened through. So to speak...
I really take issue taken with one of your comments: "I really hope the diagnosis here is androgen insensitivity syndrome *because* that meant the dad has slept with a biological male."
I'm not totally sure what you mean by this. I'm actually transgender, "biological male" some would say, and having been raped by my first boyfriend 3 years into our relationship, I fail to so the relevancy. Rape is rape; man, woman, trans, intersex, it doesn't matter. Rape is rape. Whether the patient is biologically male or female *really* doesn't change the moral status of the father's abuse. If I misinterpreted your statement, please do let me know, because on it's face it sort of seems like your saying that it wouldn't be as bad if the victim is male. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Sincerely.
Guessing a testicle is smaller. ... Googled it, wrong again. Damn. I blame the show. And my general aversion to anatomy; I like biochemistry more, and anatomy grosses me out. *shrug*
House calling her "he" bothered me, and I'm glad you didn't do the same. And his "homo" "joke" was just tasteless. But also, if the dad's a homo, so is House given the comments he's been inappropriately making.
Overall good video all in all. But still, if you read this, I'd love for you to comment on your comment. I don't want to be antagonistic, I just want to understand where that came from, and maybe point out that, male or female, rape is rape (even with the episode trying to complicate the matter even more so in other ways). I'm hoping maybe you just meant that not having to worry about a possible pregnancy scare would be a benefit, in which case, yes, absolutely fair, and very much so. If you would, do let me know. Then again, I'm a random person on the internet, same as you to me, so nothing probably matters... Idk, it's 1am, I should get some sleep (spoiler alert, I won't... wee...). g'night
It is a pretty memorable episode from the series. Also I have no clue how House wouldn't have guessed that Cuddy would give him a placebo - also very ethical across the board ;)
I loove that you figured out/guessed it so soon! 👌🎉
Another great video 😁 time to binge watch some more 😅
wow nice first diagnosis this time
Great diagnosis!
always felt this one was a bit problematic in later rewatches
I watched this now, but after working with a lot of people and whatnot.. this is probably the first episode of a series i will choose to skip. Atleast rn.
I don’t know if it’s normal but when I was in the hospital for a month before they could safely do heart surgery on me I looked at my medical records after I got discharged that showed they actually did a pregnancy test on me. This was a time when records where still being done by hand mostly. PS according to the test I was not pregnant and am still male.
Depends. Could be an error. Or could be screening for tumors that throw off beta-hCG.
First try good job.
Starting to get the hang of this and learning the show's techniques lol.
Great job on this one!
Been bingewatching all the episodes the last couple of days. Unfortunately I can't become a member because of financial limitations. But I'm subscribed and I'm gonna go back and give all the likes :)
Looking forward to seing more! :D
One thing that wasn't shown in this cut/formatted episode is how the patient admits that she not only slept with her father after getting him drunk, but also her photographer, financial manager and her tutor in order to get what she wants.
Interesting take on society's perception of a minor always being alleviated of all burden of responsability, when in reality it's always more complicated than that.
As an asexual, I don't really understand how any fully grown adult would have a minute's hesitation saying no to sex with a minor, regardless of what they look like. I don't get it, and honestly I hope I never do. Adults do have a responsibility to protect children from such things, not participate in it. Kids are held responsible for all sorts of actions they take, but sex with an adult is not one of them; the adult should always know better (unless the adult has serious mental comprehension issues, which clearly none of these characters did to be holding the jobs they had).
@@xzonia1 It's simple: temptation. People know that smoking is bad, but it's still done. Adultery is bad, but it's still done. Regardless of whether it is illegal or not.
By definition, she raped her father. She got him drunk, meaning he couldn’t consent, according to the law here in the US. So while it’s morally reprehensible on his end that he slept with her, she wasn’t innocent by any means, either. She technically committed a crime.
It’s likely someone taught this (fictional) child that her body was a useful commodity, and defined her value, by engaging in these activities early. It doesn’t remove her criminal responsibility, but it means someone else was probably a criminal before that. As Reddit would say, ESH.
But then again there are cases where children get theeathened, beaten and abused and imprisoned and tortured.
I seriously hope you or anyone close to you never has to experience this. Witnessing it first hand(the process not the actual .. well you get it) is gutwrenching.
I sincerely hope noone underestimates the damage and horror of these things. It is a fate that is much worse than death.
I do not wish this upon my worst enemy, although in a universe filled with irony; dont ever belittle the suffering of others unless you genuinely feel ok with that suffering happening to your loved ones and yourself.
Best wishes.
Incredible guess wow
I have been waiting for you to do this one! Good job!
Hi @mistmonster! Glad you enjoyed it and this has to be one of the best episodes in the series for me. Sorry for the late response and really appreciate your support :)
I heard you mention androgen insensitivity like 5 minutes in and my jaw dropped 😂😂
ONe of my fave House episondes and you called it at the four minute mark. Nah, not taking that - I'm calling shenanifans.
A+++++ you completely CRUSHED house here. Best guess ever.
Hi Echelar!!! Good to see you here again!
Haha yeah that was unprecedented for sure. Not sure if I can beat this guess, especially with this episode being one of the best in the series so far for me. So well constructed!
PS Sorry for the late response - I definitely need to manage better with multi-tasking so I can respond in the time-frame you deserve.
Either way I really appreciate your ongoing support as one of the first ever channel members!!! Hope you’re keeping well :)
This is an insane episode.
4:01 WTF... Holy shit I almost jumped out of my chair!
19:58 If someone switches to a stronger opioid, do they still get withdrawal from the other one?
4:30 fastest diagnosis so far, Dr. Mezher
First time you guessed right from the start
I hate it when you nail it so soon!
Just got caught up with your reactions at the same time I started binging House.
By the way, did you know there’s a spinoff called Nurse Jeffery?
Never heard of it, 13 episodes 3 minutes each, have you watched it? Is it any good?
@@limner123I am waiting until I get to the part in Hose where it aired to watch it myself. But I thought our host might want to know about it.
@@animalia5554 That makes total sense. I imagine lots of people watching our host also want to know. I had no idea!
12:00 What does that mean?
🤣💨💨💨💨
P.S.: as a doctor himself, I don't understand why House would swallow all the acetaminophen that's in the Vicodin, especially since it can easily be filtered out.
well done man
Wow! Impressive. Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome is not something many people would pick up on right away. Well, technically her condition was testicular cancer, but way to go. It is sort of interesting that a lot of people don’t realize that women with CAIS are often perceived as very beautiful.
I trust that he knows his stuff, obviously he's a licensed physician, but its really hard to buy that he got the exact diagnosis down to the testicular cancer off her being nauseous and presenting with cataplexy. Idk. Fair play I guess
C'mon, that's an easy conclusion to reach. Undescended testes, regardless of the cause, almost invariably leads to testicular cancer after puberty. The risk is really that high. Add to that the paraneoplastic manifestations throughout this episode, there was a cancer going on, all that remained was to diagnose which one.
Besides, having watched him long enough, I'll say Dr Sermed really does know his onions. It shows.
You are cheating on this one 😂😂😂
4 minutes in and you got it already! :D heuhehue
4:07 HOW DID YOU KNOW
Interesting diagnosis, but yeah, also very obvious to people who know about it. In people who only try heroin once or use it rarely, it only stays in the blood for 48 hours or so, but in addicted people, it can stay much longer, 8 days and more (even if they're in withdrawal, of which yawning, sneezing, diarrhea, sleeplessness and restless legs would also be symptoms, it will still be there). I've actually known a person like this, she was a very beautiful woman, and she had like a male sex drive (I mean, I understand androgen insensitivity, so it was likely not because of testosterone, but still), she was very open about wanting to have sex, and of course, she would always find men who were happy to oblige, which unfortunately led her to have a bad reputation in our very uptight, intolerant society, especially when it comes to female sexuality. I don't know if she eventually has had surgery to remove her testes, but probably.
With the point about the proportion of intersex people, what exactly does that include? I've heard before that some definitions of intersex include more minor conditions like Gynecomastia, which seems like a stretch, so I'm never sure what the numbers regarding the topic actually mean.
Yea, I thought it was 1 in 2000 on the old intersex site. They may be overloading intersex to much milder conditions. Nearly 2% sounds damn high
@@macmcleod1188 They've increased what counts as Intersex so they can inflate the numbers to make it seem like more of the population is Trans than previously thought in order to push their agenda. They're even telling parents that children that are just using their imaginations to play that what they are doing is a sign that they may be Trans. It says it's 1.7% of the world population may have A intersex trait, but only 0.5% have clinically identifiable sexual or reproductive variations. So, 0.5% actually count while the 1.7% covers anybody that at least one intersex trait.
Thank you for educating me about breasts! I will only casually analyse and comment the breasts of the adult women i walk past! Thank you teacher!
What if we're under 18? Would it then be okay to use the skills on other people under 18?
I mean, I'm not. But I was once lmao.
Edit: Oooh not 7/10 entertainment? Is the rapture starting? Lmao
Is it possible (but rare) for females to ever inherit AIS like they can with x-linked recessive stuff like colorblindness, or is it similar to how they technically can't inherit muscular dystrophy because the would-be father doesn't live long enough to have kids?
I would like to share with everyone as a matter of curiosity the fact that in my country you can only buy Playboy when you are 18 but you can have sex when you are 15. Such a strange world we live in. Or rather, the law is weird.
Incest is weird but if both are happy and they won't have children then it's all ok. freedom. Not such things happened in ancient Egypt or Rome.
14:10 say what? Why do you hope they are biologically male when it comes to that???
UHEUHEUHEUHEUHE, a worm on a helicopter blade!
UHEUHEUHE, not even their grandchildren wont feel a thing! :D
Given the flow of the show, folks blame the father for the SA, when really she flat out rrped him while he was incapacitated.
underage people cannot consent. he raped her.
regardless of what you think is correct
