      Gerald Weir - Alexander Graham Bell, the man credited with inventing the telephone, considered "Hello" to be the proper greeting. Elisa Gray, the man who didn't quite get his version of the telephone up and running in time, wanted "Hoy, Hoy" to be the greeting.

    My favourite part of this particular scam was when Homer was caught and ordered to apologise to everyone he annoyed
    So he used the auto dialer to send his apologies, asking those who forgive him to send him a dollar lol

    It would have been a really great gag if 20 years later (this episode was aired in 1996) in 2016, the original telemarketer convict was included in a new episode where he made parole and started an email targeting scheme asking people to donate to a gofundme to raise money to buy a new telemarketing machine like the one he lost to Homer.

The other issue was that the idiots that got offended by his character focused just as much on the accent that they gave Apu. Those self-righteous assholes willfully ignored all of the decades of storylines that the writing staff wrote to make him more than just a caricature, with lots of character development that made him a far more real character than a lot of other bit characters on the show. I sincerely hope that the person that did the documentary on Apu, and all of the cancerous SJWs that felt inspired by it to destroy one of the best examples of an Indian American on prime time television all burn in hell. And I say that as someone who has been a strong supporter of progressive politics my entire life.

      Except my phone won't wake me up at some obnoxious hour with the recorded message of some Kickstarter asshat asking for money. I occasionally still get autodialer recordings from overseas scam artists doing that to me.
      When Kickstarter is disrupting my attempts to bathe multiple times like Homer's machine did to Chief Wiggim or redialing my phone all night like happened to Ned then I'll consider it as bad as an autodialer, much less think it worse.
