Thanks Matt, as a new be to detecting for gold in the Territory l really appreciate this info, thank you. When l firstL started detecting back in the eighties in Victoria, all you needed was a Miners Right to allow you to prospect on crown land. Feels such a long time ago and l wish l had a PI machine back then. The old VLF machines were all we had and we did ok, found lots of rubbish and the odd shallow nugget, it was a great learning experience . Thanks once again for sharing your knowledge on the subject👍👍👍👍👍

Hi Matt. Thanks for the info and great video.
I moved to Darwin from Vic almost 2 years ago, and have not been out in that time.
I use to get out regularly and explore the old mines, via rope access.
I have all the equipment and safety equipment to do so, if you are interested in prospecting some of the underground mines in the NT.
I would be interested to have a chat

Hi Kane, firstly thanks for the positive feedback and welcome to the NT.
Wow that would be unbelievable. When it dries out a little let’s make a plan.

Thanks mate, I have prospected on Spring Hill South, NT Gov have been really quick with the consent as it is a Proposed site, the station are 'less than happy' to have people there, but they haven't interfered or approached me, I did meet the Lease holder of the ML just North of Spring Hill, he was fine, once he realised I was totally legit and had no intention of going near his site.

As per the below letter thanking Terra Ranger I have changed my mind, I don't think the NT wants any tourists, I can't seem to make sense out of STRIKE and when I ask for Pastoral leases I get a hundred year old map that is ninety nine years out of date, to comply I would have to take a printer with me on my trip if you have one at all. I went to the prospecting area 45.5ks out of Tennant Creek, that was a waste of petrol, they have cut out the only bit of land that may have had gold on it and the area left for detectorists has obviously been put through crushers and professionally processed already, so, all in all, don't waste your money coming up here to the Territory fossicking for gold, I spoke to a fellow traveler that went into Margret Digging's and he said the track in was just to dangerous for him to go again. I had written to the mines department a few years ago suggesting that as it was one of the NT's premier tourist destinations and advertised around the whole world that the track in was a disgrace and needed some attention, I received a threatening letter saying I wasn't allowed in there but they didn't know I was working for the pastoral lease owner of that area at the time I legally entered and I was just trying to improve tourism for the NT. It is all to hard so don't waste your money, go to WA or Queensland.

You are spot on there Leon. We have been told by the mines department that prospectors are at the bottom of the barrel. The MD track is an absolute slow slog. I traveled it many times in the last six months, and there is no appetites by the government go fix it. The Territory is 30 years behind the rest of Australia in most legislation and prospecting is certainly no exception.
      Thanks for the feedback.

@@TerraRangerGold Thanks for your comment back TERRA RANGER, sitting on level five in the gov building they don't seem to realise that we are worth far more to the territories income than any pastoral lease or mine is per annum, every mine is government owned and privately managed to cover up the government ownership, once I tacked a supposed privately owned EL business that they had sent me to Melbourne to contact so I traced it back to a government department with interests in mining and pastoral leases with a head office at Howard Spring's,it is all a scam it is time to return some freedom to Australians this department has gone to far and needs to be changed from the top to the bottom.

I will recommend to the people that I find/ run into on the area I keep an eye on to look up and watch this video it is much appreciated that you took the time to do this. STRIKE, I find this site almost impossible to use, it really needs to be downsized and updated with a specific area in it for prospectors and fossickers that is highlighted at the beginning of the site, indexed clearly. I have found that the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade rotate their staff far to much and you cannot get an answer from them that the next staff member interprets in a different manner, I suppose it is a way to not take responsability for their actions should it get to a court level, put everything in writing/email when dealing with this department. Enjoy the Northern Territory and most of the stuff you read about in the media is just a huge beat up by the media, most people are just here for the freedom and weather although the feedom is being eroded by to many laws that only affect honest people and not the people they are meant to affect.

    • @TerraRangerGold

That's correcg mate, only need to submit a notice. They can reply with a refusing noticed if they are conducting pastoral activities in that area.

90% of the land have mineral leases on it tho.....the approval of the pastoralist means nothing if the area is under MINERAL lease.....
