You know the chill feeling when you turn on the nature channel on the weekend and it has your undivided intention. I get the same feeling when I watch Old Shovels works of art come together. We enjoy your video's, keep up the good work.
Your videos should be a MUST WATCH to evercy bicycle mechanic in the world. So much love for your work it's something we, mechanics , need to learn. Best regards. Missed your voice again!
U just gave me new inspiration, to rebuild, put my talent to better use, helping my grandson who is just getting into bikes, rebuild some hes found. Thank you.
I totally agree Wei Shi Loh...My Giant xtc sx is a little tired nowadays, but I realise now that it just needs to be 'shovelled'. I don't need a new bike.
Hmm,let's see. No music. No talking. Sound of tools being used. Technically, you've just made an ASMR video that cyclists in particular would enjoy. Also, this restoration only made the bike more 90s-esque than it was,in terms of the paint job.And I really enjoyed watching this.
Just beautiful once again! Since first coming across your channel, your videos have given me the confidence to tune and adjust virtually every aspect of our bikes verses taking to my local bike shop. I found a wheel tuning stand along with a bike repair stand at a yard sale for $10 bucks and have learned how to re-spoke wheels...The joy of discovering new skills after retirement! Thanks Old shovel 💗
Now that I've found this channel, I can't top watching it! My first mountain bike in around 1988-ish, was a Raleigh Mirage.Happy days. Keep those bikes coming MrShovel.
Eye catching! Nice job on the seat also. I just restored a 20 year old Selle Comfort saddle. Worst part was finding a comparable foam to fill in a worn section on the left cheek (motorcycle seat foam worked!). From the amount of wear it must have been someone's favorite saddle! Thanks for the content, very inspiring.
Everytime I find a really cool bike, Rob's already done a rebuild of one on his channel. Never disappoints! The bike I just found is a 1991 Technium Peak, so the top of the range model. It's an absolute time capsule that I am not even kidding was never rode. There is zero, zip, zilch wear on the chainrings and cogs. The tires still have mold release compound on every square inch of tread. The original Ritchey Megabite tires are incredibly supple. I've never seen a bike in this good of shape in the 20 years I've been buying and selling vintage mountain bikes. It's going to be hard letting go of this one. As always, it's a pleasure to was these videos, this one especially with my Peak sitting in front of my TV.
I recently found your chanel and am currently binge-watching all of your videos. It's like a bikebuilder's ASMR. Thank you so much for your awesome work! Oh, and one thing about the Raleigh: The original paintjob on this bike was killer! Seeing that getting sanded off was really painful to watch ;-)
I've got a 1999 GT Rebound in Solar Citrus (chartreuse basically), that the current bike shortage/price inflation is forcing me to refurbish. I watch videos like this to give me courage, but all they do is intimidate me, and not simply because I don't have any of your tools. Otherwise it's a pleasure to watch.
Love love what you do. I like when you talk during the builds:) You make some good points and u understand and fully can hear the passion in what u do. Thanks for doing this. I like the narration tho maybe a lil story to where the bike came from where its going, and other random things. Pretty much teaching.
We must be the same age cause I remember most of the bikes that you restore..amazing transformations and colors schemes!! 😎👍🚲🚲🚲 Hi I'm near Toronto BTW! Years ago a neighbor put out a womans classic Univeral Pegasis bike. I wanted to restore it for my wife and with little experience and new paint it came out great!! I ride it more than she does love the old style bikes! Now I've collected over 10 bikes since then..people just leave them out for FREE its like an addiction when I see them!! I subbed to your channel enjoy learning and of course watching these bikes come back to life!! Great JOB !!! 👍
beauitiful lugged frame with these side cable cable guides. The fluo-bare steel color shceme is contrasting really well. And these pure 90s hologram decals are toping it all up. another great build. The only thing I would add is maybe a front mech chain guide and apply some oracal protective patches on the cranks because surely the paint will get scrachted off fast. especially when riding in ordinary sneakers.
Super build and every video I see gets me wanting to paint my old Peugeot Tourmalet road bike more and more... Would love to see you do a road bike one day!
Beautiful build , personally I won’t paint the crank set and the handlebar , and maybe the fork I will paint with the green fluo, for have all the 3 flou color ( green , yellow and pink ) of the 80s/90s era .. Thanks for inspiration oldshovel ! Cheers from Italy
Hi again Old Shovel. Another great bike restored to a new level of splendor! Ready to show the world to us for decades. Say, I wish travel was reasonable again, you could come to Arizona and ride with me and my adult kids through the mountains. It's only 105F this week. It will get hot pretty soon.... Thanks! BTW, I had no idea Brooks made that style saddle in the day. I exclusively use B17's since 1956, and will continue throughout this century. (A little delusion can't hurt, can it)?
I just got given a Raleigh Mantis from about 1990 in U.K. I know nothing about engineering or maintenance but slowly collecting the tools needed to do it well and will be using spray.bike Milan blue with a touch of sparkle for those sunny day
Just putting the finishing touches on my 1994 GT RTS-2. Picked it up for next to nothing. It's hard to believe this was a top spec bike back in the day. Lol. I'm going to make it my canal path bike.
Absolutely fun to watch and inspiring.. 9 bikes in my collection, and now considering older 80s rides... I dont mind the seat so much, but would modernize the stem... crazy sexy tires.. love em.... checking for some now! great great job.... wonder what overall time was....bravo
Yeah, we have different opinions, me and myself. One of me hates you too much when you take off the original stickers and the original painting that was so so beautiful. But the other me is super happy and impressed with the final work you did. I hate you, great job, I love you. Best regardos from Brasil!
I saw $15 and nearly cried! Wish there were thrift stores over here. My friend had this exact model (badged Technium Chill for the UK market) but sadly killed it because the cr-mo DX seatpost completely fused with the alu seat tube thanks to bimetallic corrosion and poor maintenance. Anyway, will definitely be putting those grips and tyres on my next build. Was going to film it for my channel but you just made me realise I could never compete on attention to detail.

Awesome thanks
It's on par with a mechanic's version of Bob Ross.
@@Adamas_83 Another Bob Ross reference as I have stated in the past to him , all he has to do know is talk about some trees !
I can only say that I agree.
I can only hope I can get just a fraction of your talent to restore a bike I rescued from the trash.
Your videos should be a MUST WATCH to evercy bicycle mechanic in the world. So much love for your work it's something we, mechanics , need to learn. Best regards. Missed your voice again!
Thanks Oscar. On the voice sometimes the sounds of the restoration are just so good I can just sit and listen while I watch. 😁
U just gave me new inspiration, to rebuild, put my talent to better use, helping my grandson who is just getting into bikes, rebuild some hes found. Thank you.
Hey Oldshovel, Thanks for inspiring me to make my old bike look and feel like new! Thanks alot!

Haha. Right. That crisp mic when he puts on the stickers. Are stickers expensive?
Reapa Nomin8 Great videos, either way! I love working on my bikes in silence. Just get absorbed into the work 👍🏻👍🏻
100% agree!
@@tigoat2 Although I don't do much maintenance on my bike, when I do it I'd also like my environment to be mostly silent.
I got my first mountain bike during that era, the colors were bright. I love what you did with this. Combo of bare metal and bright neon really works.
I love watching your 80s/90s bike resto videos...it's a whole lot cheaper (and less time consuming) than doing my own...and almost as satisfying!
Congrats Oldshovel! It really has that 90's look! Perfect job, thank you!
Thanks

Oh, and one thing about the Raleigh:
The original paintjob on this bike was killer! Seeing that getting sanded off was really painful to watch ;-)
Amazing!!! I can't gey enough of these videos. But I really love it when you talk about the bike while building it.
Same.
Noted 😁
I love what you did to the saddle! Great job once again.
I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that he actually cared to rebuild the saddle, when most bike restorers would just get a new saddle.
Thanks. Sometimes it just feels right.
I was just about to say the exact same thing!! I love that saddle.
Again, thank you for these moments of peace.
Another stunning build. It’s a pleasure to watch your videos and watch how you work. 👍🏼

I think I've found a new idea to run a bike store specializing in upgrade or restoration in my place. Thanks for the inspiration.
Lol. I’ve thought of doing just the same. 😁
Yeah my plan is to have a bike shop where I buy used mountain bikes and restore them and upgrade them.
@@oldshovel you can do it.
Lovely work Oldshovel, that's early 90's proper look! Kudos!
Thanks
What a stunning build. Given me a lot of inspiration for an upcoming build I have too! Exellent
Strong 80’s vibe there. Am old enough to have had a fluorescent red BMX during the 80’s. Good times.

every build you make is a work of art! love this one!!
Awesome build. When you started taking the wheel apart I was really hoping the spokes were going to get painted fluorescent yellow
That would have been fun
You make it look so effortless. Why can't i be like that!
It's like on of the videos where people try to follow step by step Bob Ross in a painting and create a total mess.
I have one old Raleigh Bike, and it’s the best driving bike i‘d ever have
Excellent reminds me of my Raleigh Massif Project that’s currently underway 👍🏻

I'm just curious how do you do those old bikes with 10 speed cassettes. Do you have to widen the Dropout in the back or you can use the stock width.
