Call a player with R1 but R1 make the player let the ball go away how to fix that?

Depends on the controller settings, in short tap the button assigned fr finesse to call player short and tap the button assigned for speed to make a player run

Don’t let the ball get so close before tapping r1, also don’t hold r1 fr long upon receiving the ball otherwise it will let the bal go away like you said

You forgot to clarify that to call players short you double tap rb/r1 not just a single tap.
