I've seen lots of photography channels on RUclips and they all are too busy talking about specs and sharpness while you are creating legendary photos with the same gear!! Your photos are so insanely Awesome I literally thought the thumbnails to your videos were clickbait!! Seriously, why don't you have like 10 million subscribers already?!
Hi Mark, I got my D500 around the same time as you and have been following ever since. Your informative approach to getting setup with the D500 has been great and these adventures I come along on are fabulous thanks so much and keep up the great work. Phill from the UK
Your narration just keeps getting better. Also, I'm thankful for the trivia you put in, not just about the birds, but also other insect, wildlife and surroundings. Keep up the great work! Really appreciate all the effort and content!
Mark - Love your photography videos. They are more than an endorsement or review. They are instructive and entertaining. They also show your love of wildlife photography.
Mark Smith you’re welcome. I’m excited about putting some of that knowledge to work very soon myself. I get my Nikon D500 very soon. I would like to know what lenses you recommend. Perhaps that is another series.
Hi My dear Mark , I am requesting you to make about nikkor 200-500mm lens which inlude how use it and tricks you use to make more better and functional on nikon d500
Mark, I made that comment before seeing the heron and frog image. Equally stunning! Really enjoy your personable style of presentation and your work. BTW, where are you in Florida? I spent a lot of time a few years in a row in and around Sebastian Inlet State Park near Vero Beach. It's such a wonderland for water fowl as well as fish.
+Dj Toman The heron really presented quite the opportunity. This whole adventure was just north of Sebastian inlet. I am currently in Vero beach. Great place for wildlife.
Mark , BCBIRDMAN here and obviously i am in British Columbia and i am a bird fanatic and a huge fan of the video i just watched and will be subscribing to your channel ,well i already have lol! The amazing little bird you wanted help with identification is a Vereo and i believe from the shot you captured with that amazing d500 and 200-500 which is my dream set up i have a d7200 which i love but would love to have the 153 point auto focus with 99 cross type but i have 51 points, lol! The Vereo i think is the Olive Vereo and just a helpful book if you dont already know because you are quite knowledgable with your stuff is the Stokes guide to North American birds i bought it just about a year ago and it is the best bird guide i have and i have 79 bird guides
So glad I found your channel! Really enjoying your videos. I feel like I’m there with you! Those alligators make me nervous though! Thankfully, we don’t get those up North!
Enjoy watching your bird shooting experiences in Florida. I just purchased a D500 to have the ability to photograph sports, action & wildlife. Living in Fort Myers, FL gives me the close proximity to J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Preserve. Currently, I will be using a my Nikkor 70-300mm lens. BTW...I have owned a D60, D90, D300, D700, D7100 but now have my F100's, D800 & D500.
Thanks for watching. Glad you are enjoying the videos. You are in a great place to catch some awesome birds! I go over there every once in a while. The D500 is a great camera. Have fun with it!
Mark, I was checking out some of your older videos and brother you have some of the best birding luck of any photographer on RUclips, PLUS you are truly a master camerasmith, your pic’s are the best of the best, I tell my wife all the time, I inspire to be like you!! Plus you are very very knowledgeable about Florida my favorite place in the whole world! Lou
That tricolored heron with the frog shot was amazing. Believe it or not, I caught a tiny green backed heron catching a frog half it's size a couple years ago. I totally agree that herons and egrets should be considered birds of prey.
That Heron shot...Oh WOW! It looks like a spectacular day was had but those alligators make me very nervous! Another brilliantly entertaining video. Well done, Mark.
Absolutely brilliant photography..... What a day, o much activity.... Always a delight to watch your vids.... Thanks for putting up settings and explaining the reasons for them..... Great stuff....
Wow! There are many very good photo/birding channels on YT and elsewhere but I will venture that yours is a contender for first place. I only say this as I know I haven't found them all. Aside from the stunning photos and great videography, I think your narrative style is what sets you apart from the best. Thanks so much for sharing!
At 3:43 the same insect is here in srilanka too. It will draw random paths when it moves on sand which looks like a world map or country map. So we call this insect as 'mapping bug'
Great video and you captured some awesome images. I've been hoping to get a D500, however, I have to work it into my budget. I'm shooting a D5500 Nikon with a Tamron 150-600mm (not the G2). I live in Florida and nearly all my photography is in the Wildlife Management areas around central Florida. Thanks for sharing
Hi Mark, what a great video, you really inspire people to get off their arse, get outside and take photos. By the way, love your little grey socks. Rick from Australia
I'm dreaming of buying a D500, so it's great to see what your photos are like with it. I don't know if a D500 or D850 would be my dream camera. I think the D500 would be all I could scrimp and save, and sell things to afford.
That heron in flight with the frog shot is insane!! I know what you mean about the screaming frogs...one night when I live back in florida, I was walking around near my house and I heard this weird freakin sound that sounded like a child screaming or a dying cat lol. Turned out to be a big old frog being eaten by a rat snake!
Thanks! I got really lucky with that shot! Good to know this screaming frog wasn't the only one. It kind of freaked me out. I could imagine hearing it late at night and wondering what it was. Funny thing is snakes can't hear so the screaming trick didn't work that night, huh?
Found your site and this was the first video of your's that I have viewed. I really enjoyed it and also like how you add some factual side points of interest. I did want to point out that I really like that you display the EXIF data for your shots. I wish others would do that. It does help with the learning process as I see a shot and then work backwards in my mind as to why those particular camera settings were chosen. I look forward to viewing your past and future videos. Thanks.
I can not thank you enough for your videos on the D500 and 200-500 lens. I have learned so much and keepers are increasing. The outfit is quite heavy and struggle with some shoulder discomfort from age and old injury. When shooting still birds, do you ever use a tripod. Any suggestion on the best type of tripod for still birds and the D500 with the 200-500 lens. When you get old, you have to make adjustment.
Insaaaane!! if any monster "Heron" picks on me....well...! Also had a teeny narrative: Onesday A Heron on my roof...he was choking wildly, even saw him turn purple, anyway, after a minute he coughed up the frog that flew and flopped to the ground , checked his pulse but heart-had-stopped *RIP*..... i still have said frog...dried up in mummified in a ninja like pose [really]. Your photos immortalize .... Magnificently!
Very nice video!! You are a very good photographer and storyteller. Your videos not only help us learn photography but also about the different species of animals and insects. Best of luck for future videos, and keep up the good work.
Love this! I have a D500 shipping to me this week, and your video is making me want to get the 200-500 NIKKOR lens ASAP!!! I also live in Florida and want to get into wildlife / sports photography, this video is inspirational to me. Thanks and keep up the good work. I'm subscribed now!
Wow that is a great day of birding mark. You did well with the Common Yellowthroat, waiting for it to come to you. It looks like Australia's Eastern Yellow Robin, and in the last shot of it it is perching just like our EYRs do. I really do like yellow-coloured birds being my favourite colour. Well done with the Tricoloured Heron, the D500 grabbing focus without you being able to see. In have noticed that in all Osprey photos I see carrying a fish they seem to intentionally orient the fish along their centerline for aerodynamic purposes I guess.
Another outstanding video- love the shots of the tri-colored heron with the frog...what a story! And the bald eagle was impressive! I think you've convinced me to get the D500. Mind me asking where these shots were all from? Thanks again.
Thanks for the compliments and for watching. Here is a link to the location on Google Maps. www.google.com/maps/place/Maritime+Hammock+Sanctuary/@27.9454225,-80.5286056,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xc19936fa3506ed14!8m2!3d27.9563025!4d-80.5028135
I'm not too sure yet. I've been using the D850 more and more. With the grip, I think I might be swayed to use the D850 but the D500 outperforms in speed, no question there. I'm still not certain.
Great pics as always Mark. NIce to see the D500 out there earning its keep. I was fascninated by the Ant Lion. As Casey Stengal would have said: "Who'duv ever thunk it?" Encountered a couple of gators last week-end. Seems like they're posturing for winter somehow. Or just being themselves. Is it me, or are the majority of the migratory birds on a little delay this Fall ? We don't seem to have the same volume yet that we had last year around this same time. Oh well, I'm waiting for them Keep up the great work. The pictures, as always, are beautiful. All the best ! Gil from Largo, FL aka SemperFiGuy
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video with wildlife images. I myself love photographing wildlife. My visit to Florida was one of my best bird photography days, such a great variety. Living in Puerto Rico, in most cases I have to travel the whole island looking for migrating warblers. This fall I should be moving to Florida so I am looking forward to great photography times.
Hi Mark, I do not undesrstand the hype abour 200-500 lens. Yes it is cheap. Take the 500 f4 and you can get more. If you go for the elephants not birds maybe.
Good job. Q: your in the brush and shooting slow shutter shots, but then when you poked your lens through the grasses, your shutter was 1/2000 sec for a Herron shot. Do you walk with your camera set for high shutter when scouting, but then just reduce speed for darker shots through holes, seems like most of those birds were always in a hurry. One does not have much time to fidget.
What a fun and informative video! I love the stories of the animals.... and coupled with your screenshots of your camera specs, this was a wonderful presentation. I just bought the D500 to go on another photographic South African safari, so fast action, super zoom tutorials are much needed. I am an enthusiastic amateur, and have a lot to learn. Thanks and keep these coming, please! Am getting for Christmas the Tamron 150-600 lens....my first big big lens.
Loving your videos Mark, a real breath of fresh air. Your enthusiasm makes the videos and your insight especially with the latest Nikon gear has me hooked. I've been a Nikon user for over thirty years I reckon the D500 and 200-500 could be the solution I need.I really like how you edit your photos, they look very natural. cheers from the UK. tony

You sir are, a great storyteller and a fantastic bird photographer! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words!
Hi Mark, I got my D500 around the same time as you and have been following ever since. Your informative approach to getting setup with the D500 has been great and these adventures I come along on are fabulous thanks so much and keep up the great work. Phill from the UK
Thanks so much for all the great compliments. I really appreciate it. Glad to know you are enjoying the adventures!
Your narration just keeps getting better. Also, I'm thankful for the trivia you put in, not just about the birds, but also other insect, wildlife and surroundings. Keep up the great work! Really appreciate all the effort and content!
Thank you! I'm trying to add a little more info with each video when possible. Thanks for watching.
I finally bought my D500 and 200-500mm, all thanks to you.
Every image did tell a story. And you did make it more awesome by narrating it....Kudos from India.
Thanks for the compliments and for watching.
The heron's flight with the frog is really an award winning shot. Keep up the good work cuz it inspires a lot of people.
Thanks so much! I need to research some contests for this picture!

Your channel might be my new favorite on RUclips. Outstanding photography and outstanding stories.
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying them.
Great photos you don't realise how lucky you are to have such a wonderful variety of birds, pleasure to watch.
Thank you! I do realize how lucky I am. I love every single minute of it.
The image quality is so insane! With a 20MP crop sensor?? 🤯
yep
That osprey and fish photo is one of the most spectacular nature images I've seen. Just mind boggling. Chapeau to you, Mark!
Thanks so much! Those birds are incredible.
Mark, I made that comment before seeing the heron and frog image. Equally stunning!

I like that "come on lets go check it out".
Wow. Unbelievable photos. The frog photo was just out of this world 🐸
Thanks!
How have I never come across this channel?! This is incredible!!!
Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying it.
Stunning images. I think this may be your best video yet. I loved it. Congratulations from East Sussex England!

Wow - lost for words, oh but wait I just found one.................................stunning
Thanks!
Hi Mark, loved the bird shots but I think your pelican with the fish tail hanging out was your best shot so far. Nice work and enjoy your videos.
Thanks. That pelican shot is tough to beat! I like that one a lot too!
That is the shot of a lifetime! Great job Mark!
Thank you!

Wow! Always such incredible shots!
Thanks!
That Heron shot...Oh WOW! It looks like a spectacular day was had but those alligators make me very nervous! Another brilliantly entertaining video. Well done, Mark.
Thanks for the compliments. It was fun. Those gators made me nervous too especially because we hiked about 2 miles to get to where they were.
Absolutely brilliant photography..... What a day, o much activity.... Always a delight to watch your vids.... Thanks for putting up settings and explaining the reasons for them..... Great stuff....
Thank so much and you are welcome. Hopefully all can learn from the videos!

Just came across this video while looking for tips on my newly-purchased 200-500. That heron shot/story alone was enough to convince me to sub.
Thanks for the sub. Enjoy your lens. It is a good one.
So awesome - definitely some great stories! I have a D500 on the way as 'backup' to my D810. Can't wait to test out the D500 / 200-500 killer combo.
I got my d500 as a backup to my d810 and the d810 collected dust. Have fun!
Another awesome video Mark. I really love the shots of the Tri-Color Heron.
Thanks. That bird gave me quite the show!
At 3:43 the same insect is here in srilanka too. It will draw random paths when it moves on sand which looks like a world map or country map. So we call this insect as 'mapping bug'
That is interesting. Thanks for sharing.
what an amazing day!! its truly amazing what you caught that day !!!!
Yes it was! Thanks for watching.
Another great video with great photography and great insight into the bird life.
Thanks
Just beautiful! I'm happy to have found your channel and enjoy the narrative and those gorgeous photos.
Must agree Mark one of the best yet. Some really nice shots
Thanks so much!
Great video and you captured some awesome images. I've been hoping to get a D500, however, I have to work it into my budget. I'm shooting a D5500 Nikon with a Tamron 150-600mm (not the G2). Another great vid with some great shots of the wildlife you have in Fla.
Thanks!
Thanks for the great video! I look forward to watching more of your adventures!!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
Really well done, Mark. This video was a pleasure to watch! Excellent storytelling, excellent photography. Very impressive indeed. Thanks!
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Hi Mark, what a great video, you really inspire people to get off their arse, get outside and take photos. By the way, love your little grey socks.
Rick from Australia
LOL on the grey socks. Those are expensive little grey socks, merino wool. Worth every penny. Glad to inspire people to get up and out there!
Great content Mark! That was a shot of a lifetime, just awesome.
Thanks! I got really lucky that day.
LoooooVe your channel! Thank you so much for what you do. Those are just amazing shots.
Thanks!
it was seriously a amazing day for photography
Yes it was!
Absolutely incredible shots Mark! Just beautiful.
Thanks! It might be tough to top the shots I got on this video but I am up for the challenge!
Superb video and amazing images, the heron and frog pictures are fantastic
Thanks!
Wow, what a day Mark, how lucky can you get. Not sure about being so close to those gators though!
Was a great day and those gators weren't too bad.
What a great day, video, and photos!
It sure was!
Fabulous fabulous shots Mark! Loved every minute!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video.
I'm dreaming of buying a D500, so it's great to see what your photos are like with it.
I don't know if a D500 or D850 would be my dream camera. I think the D500 would be all I could scrimp and save, and sell things to afford.
Get a D500 and save for better lenses!
Holy moley Mark amazing heron + frog shot! Can't wait for your next outting 👍
Thanks! This day is going to be hard to top!
Beautiful images Mark, just beautiful. No need to say anything else. Except best wishes from the U.K.
Thank you!
Haha sure didn't, that frog was goner!
Damn!!! What an epic adventure day. These photos are amazing man. Excellent work. You got a new subscriber!
Thanks. It was an epic day for sure.
Thanks.
+cii1072 Thanks for watching. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.
This video got me subbed! I expect more of this Mark. Nice story and the way it is put made me watch from beginning to end.
Thank you!
Wow! What an amazing day!
Yes it was!
I understand! Get the best, lightest tripod you can afford. Carbon fiber is the material of choice and then a good gimbal is a must.
Wonderful video, Mark. My heart missed a beat (or two) with those gators. Those photos with the frog are simply stunning.
Thanks. Those gators were a little too close at times. I was nervous after seeing the first one.
Great work Mark. Those Bald Eagle images are epic, the colours really pop :-)
Thanks so much.
Amazing video! That little bird is a rubycrowned kinglet, there are so many cool animals in Florida!
Thank you! Yes, the bird has been identified at the ruby crowned kinglet a bird I have been searching for!
A+ for narration and pictures!
Thanks!
Insaaaane!! if any monster "Heron" picks on me....well...!
Stunning photography beautifully presented in your video. Would love to tag along with you sometime. Great job!
Thanks
wow man nice. great. nice story . the best of all is that everything was real. like watching a comic book , pics and story
Thank you!
Your excellent narrative kept me intrigued to the end, great captures Mark! Well done!!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Really enjoying your vids and stories about the wildlife you encounter Mark, beautiful images too! thanks for sharing and for camera set up as well.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you are enjoying them.
Mark - Best day ever!
Right! This one is going to be hard to top!
What is your recommendation for using Nikon TC 1.4 iii for bird photography on Nikon d500 with 200mm-500mm 5.6 lens?
Wow Mark Stunning day. thanx for sharing.
Thanks for watching. It was a lot of fun!
Very nice video!! You are a very good photographer and storyteller. Your videos not only help us learn photography but also about the different species of animals and insects. Best of luck for future videos, and keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Superb work, great photos and video footage 👏👏
Thank you!
Love this! I have a D500 shipping to me this week, and your video is making me want to get the 200-500 NIKKOR lens ASAP!!! I also live in Florida and want to get into wildlife / sports photography, this video is inspirational to me. Thanks and keep up the good work. I'm subscribed now!
+UltimaWeapon Thanks for subscribing. The 200 500 is a great lens and very impressive on the d500. A must for wildlife.
Grat video Mark. Appreciate all you do you help us.
+Jack Dannels Thanks. Glad to help.
Cool vid! I love watching earth, explore and meditate...
+eXplorer Thanks. Agreed!

Thanks for all the great compliments! It was a great day for sure. Ospreys do seem to know how to carry the fish so it is easier to fly.
Terrific episode - your best one yet, I think! Watch out, Sir David Attenborough.
Thank you! That really means a lot to me!
Fantastic!! I enjoyed every minute.
Thank you!
Wow, what an awesome day! Great video and amazing shots, well done!
+Sam Reeves Thanks!
Wow wow wow. Great stuff.

What an awesome channel. Your narrations are so good it’s like watching a David Attenborough doco.
Thanks. That is a great compliment. I really appreciate it.
Awesome video! I know you use the D850 as well. Which do you prefer for bird photography? The higher detail in the D850 or the speed of the D500?
I'm not too sure yet. I've been using the D850 more and more. With the grip, I think I might be swayed to use the D850 but the D500 outperforms in speed, no question there. I'm still not certain.

Thanks for all the compliments. I was wondering the same thing about the volume of birds. Perhaps the storms steered them off course or delayed them?
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video with wildlife images. I myself love photographing wildlife. My visit to Florida was one of my best bird photography days, such a great variety. Living in Puerto Rico, in most cases I have to travel the whole island looking for migrating warblers. This fall I should be moving to Florida so I am looking forward to great photography times.

Ruby-crowned Kinglet, but others probably already answered
Yes but thanks!

I’m in awe at your photos and your story telling and the information you provide in your videos, subscribed and very happy to have found your channel.
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying the videos!
Simply phenomenal!
+Mike TheLastNatural Thanks
All of the pictures are great.... keep shooting.

Thanks!
Loved every second of that video. Thank you for doing these!!
Thanks for watching!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the comment. Good luck on your safari. I bet you'll have a great time!
Dude! So glad I happened to notice your channel. Very cool photos and story telling!
Thank you!
Lucky you with the Tricolor, WOW!!!
Yes, right place, right time.
