    I didn't have the same experience renting a 2023 Polestar 2. I rented one through Hertz at the Oakland Airport to do an overnight drive to San Diego, CA. They gave the last Tesla to someone else and I was stuck with a Polestar. Tesla usually has a supercharger station map where Polestar has a EV station map. I go to an EV station 60 miles from the Oak Airport to do my first charge. The EV charge kiosk couldn't read my credit card. I called Hertz roadside assistance and I was advised to trade in the Polestar 2 for a Tesla Model 3 at the SFO airport. That was about an hour. They exchanged my rental for a Tesla and even though the situation delayed my trip by 4 hours, I didn't know how impractical a non-Tesla EV is, especially when the charging limit on a Polestar 2 is 150 kwh. My Tesla rebill ends up being $72.00 using the superchargers at the Tesla charging stations. The lesson I learned is any EV that is driven for a long road trip, if it's a Tesla, Rivian, Polestar, Kia, etc, has to be planned because the learning curve for someone to get used to planning routes, and finding charge stations is a challenge if you have never driven a an EV.
    The only upside that the Polestar 2 had was that it looked more like a regular car. There were too many Teslas in Northern California. The other thing is the Polestar 2 has more analog buttons when the Tesla is a learning curve, since almost everything operates on the touch screen. Since I was familiar with the Tesla settings, Polestar 2 settings weren't difficult even though I had the car for 2 1/2 hours.

    Thanks for the report mate, very interesting. I think you could have done this trip much faster with more efficient use of chargers and skipping some of your stops. For example, pulling into Baker with 64% charge, you could have easily made it to Barstow, even Victorville, and then charged at a much higher speed.
    I have done this many times in my PS2, as I do the LV trip from SoCal every couple of months. I normally leave from Home in OC with 90% and reach Baker (177 miles) with 15-20%. I only then need a 10 minute charge to easily reach LV.
    On my return, if I leave LV with 90%, I'll reach Victorville with 10% left. Again, a quick 10 minute charge would easily get me home (270 miles from LV to home), although I normally have a meal there at Panda Express next to the charger and get home with plenty of battery. I always get to LV in 4 hours, same on my return.
    If I had been making your trip from LV to SD, I would have made only 1 stop in Victorville for 30 mins charge and would have arrived in SD with over 30% battery, plenty to run around. All in, that would have taken 5 hours 5 minutes.

    I watch a lot of EV videos but don’t own an EV. Obviously, Tesla currently has a huge lead due in no small part to its strong, reliable, charging network. I’m excited for you and your new vehicle! Keep cranking the videos.

    • @douglassmith8772
      @douglassmith8772 Год назад +1

      Yes EV's aren't for everyone, it depends on your driving habits and location plays a big part with DC fast charging capabilities. Also weather is a big factor as well. I live in a moderate climate with plenty of DC fast charging available and I only drive about 8 - 10 k a year so I can live with the lesser mileage since I also can charge at home. My last ICE vehicle gave me close to 400 miles a tank and as for maintenance cost, they were basically non existent in the 3 years that I owned it since I had lifetime oil and filter changes and 4 years complimentary maintenance which a lot of car manufacturers offer now. Fuel cost are down now as well $2.68 as of today in Virginia so charging cost vs fuel cost if you don't get free charging is comparable. I love my id4 Awd and really enjoy driving it and have had zero problems with it for almost a year now knock on wood. For me in 2 more years when I will upgrade to a new EV or go back to an ICE vehicle depends solely on infrastructure along the Eastern Coastlines, DELMARVA, Myrtle Beach, Outer Banks which right now are basically non-existent.

    I thought it was odd that the video last night just abruptly ended.

    Congrats brother. Very happy for you and glad you got something better. We’re still struggling to decide between the Pulsar and Model Y. The price were almost the same when spec. Anyway thanks for the great video. Love the car

      The Model Y should start getting a tax credit as of January 1st.

      I've owned both and my vote is Polestar, hands down.

      @@ty2007 I like the Polestar a lot. One of my favorite cars I’ve ever owned. With that said the ease of road trips in the Tesla is amazing (sorry to sound like a broken record)

      Model y anytime over this, much better range efficiency, standard heat pump, and the best charging infrastructure, you couldn't pay me to buy this over y.

      Im looking to replace my current EV end of this year. Most likely a MY though i did test drive a P2 and liked it. In the UK theres no discount for EVs while in US that now must make M3 and MY substantially more competitive against the P2 maybe cheaper esp for M3 .
      Here in UK the P2 is expensive same price as MY and hard to turn down the space performance and seamless no hassle charging network of Tesla even though P2 is a nice car.

    I LOVE my Polestar 2. Only car I’ve ever owned that I’m still excited about driving 1 year later. I used to live in Breckenridge, a long, long time ago. Before there were any chain stores (including supermarket) in Frisco or any other area. LOL.
