My daughter worked on cruise ships for over five years and believe me I’ve heard the horror stories! It is a good job to earn good money, but they work their butts off!!!! They do need to be treated better! Fix the washing machines in the dryers for God sakes!!!!
I just got off the MSC Seaside and I definitely saw the aftermath of the CDC report. The ship was severely understaffed and the buffet was a mess...*until* they sorted out the logistical and managerial issues. They brought someone in from another ship and all the sudden everything changed for the better in the buffet. But I will say my heart breaks for the service crew. We overheard that they get a 4 hour break to sleep at night and a 1 hour mid-shift break, so working 19 hours a day. It also feels like they are not *allowed* to speak to the guests, even if they want. We had someone talking to us like we've experienced in other lines and they got nervous when management walked by. One of my favorite things about cruising is meeting people from around the world, especially workers... I definitely feel like there were serious management issues on this one. When we asked about normal drinks at the buffet (they were consistently "out" of normal items like lemonade or half and half for coffee) one worker even whispered that *they* wanted the ppl to just buy drinks at the bar... So MSC has a lot to learn if they want to keep an American market lol you can't serve coffee without some sort of half and half or creamer lol
i probably saw you in nassau 👋🏾
To put that into perspective, in contrast a normal workday on a cruiseship would be 11 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our HAL ship had two inspections, health and customs, at the same time just before we boarded. They passed with flying colors. The only way we noticed was that embarkation was rescheduled for 2 hours later and service wasn’t as smooth for the first day or so, because everyone had to catch up on things the’d usually do during those hours the inspections were going on. Because they are treated well (some even told us about schedules that allow them off ship into port as often as possible, there are crew parties and excursions etc…), they did their best during and after the inspections as well. And I agree that talking with the crew is an important part of a cruise. They’re not robots.
@@schwan44 Yea, we've cruised with HAL twice and had the most amazing experience and the crew were the BEST! We still remember the names of the crew we engaged with the most even those cruises were in 2017 & 2019 because the crew was THAT amazing. Honestly the crew is doing a job I know I am completely unable and unskilled to do and they should be compensated accordingly; not treated like they are currently on MSC. MSC has a really BIG corporate issue going on and their onboard 'class' system shows their entitlement attitude.
Crew members not having clean uniforms is safety and health issue. Not good for their business. Also Congratulations 🎊 👏 on Your Scuba Diving
You are absolutely correct when you mentioned "happy crew, happy ship". I've been on a NCL ship where the crew looked very stressed, never smiled and just seemed very unhappy . It showed throughout the cruise so much that I don't think I'll sail NCL again.
Congratulations to you!! Well deserved for all the positive. You work very hard.
Congratulations on both announcements. Doing great things!!!
I was a crewmember for 18 years, from Dining Room Waiter to Shop Manager; I worked on the MSC Orchestra as International Host and it was my worst experience by far !!!
The treatment to crew was the worst I have ever seen, they sold water bottles for 2 Euros and we even had to pay for drinks at crew parties. The held the salary of crew from certamen nationalities in order to "avoid them to quit" and many other things.
Obviously the service was average and lower due to all these issues ... the worst.
BTW I worrked for RCI, Celebrity, DCL, Princess and Crystal before MSC
Put this on their social media!!!!!!
Just hashtag it!!!!!
@willychili is it worth it.I am considering getting a job on the msc. Thanks
That’s a damn shame, how much are a few new washing machines in comparison to what the money they haul in??! I would never patronize that line.
So proud of you.
Most of us don't or won't learn how to swim
You work hard and simply deserve the best young man!
I don't understand why the crews uniforms are not serviced on board? This would seem fairly easy to do.
Sorry the Crews are treated so poor. We love interacting and getting to know so many during our Cruises.
They have to PAY if the ship cleans them.
That’s insane
This is DISGUSTING! 🤬 Without the Crew, none of us would even be able to have such a great time on a cruise ship. The Mafia Shipping Company needs to get it together ASAP 👏
Congrats!!!!! There is no excuse for the crew not to have laundry facilities.
I think the answer to the crew laundry issue is for the regular shipboard laundry service to be made free for crew until the laundry facilities are fixed. I don't know how many machines are in the facility, but... perhaps a few machines should be made available for crew use? Honestly, this seems like an obvious fix. It's not like the only machines on the ship are broken. It may delay or strain normal laundry service a little bit until crew machines can be fixed or replaced, but surely that is better than having a smelly crew. When your workforce is literally trapped at work 24/7, then you have a duty of a care to that workforce. Also, if you have shipboard laundry facilities AND you require clean, pressed uniforms? Then YOU should clean and press the uniforms, anyway. Otherwise, you are requiring unpaid labor, outside of work hours, as a condition of employment. Crew should have everything they need to be healthy and tidy. Just... come on. Do better.
The crew is important...I work restaurant life...I can't imagine what cruise hospitality goes through. ❤ the people that make my vacations happen
So happy to hear your announcements. Way to go!
Congrats on your Scuba diving certification! 🎉
Thanks for sharing this news. I think MSC should put some higher priority to fixing the Crew laundry machines. They expect that the Crew will look well put together, then make it possible. They shouldn't have to wash uniforms by hand.
I am sure the crew appreciates that you have brought this to light of the general public. But, I do not understand how this is going to help them. From what you implied, there are no laws or any type of "lobbyists" that are able to help them. I doubt that enough people would be motivated enough by the story to boycott MSC in response to this. Maybe breaking the story will help, I am not sure it will, nor am I convinced it will. I DO hope that someone does something to help these employees. Enjoy yourself J and be careful out there. Not everyone has your best interest in mind.
The court of public opinion can be very motivating on when action can take place.
Maybe the cruiselines should be flagged to operate I US waters
Congratulations on your certification!! I plan on getting mine one day too. The crew washing machines being broken is ridiculous. They need to make the crew happy so that they can be happy.
The crew should be treated a whole lot better than they are by the cruise line and the passengers. I have seen some of the cabins on youtube that they stay in on some ships and I was so upset. They work so hard and they deserve so to be treated a whole lot better. I agree with you J, Happy crew, Happy ship.
Congratulations Justin on both your certification and your Royal Caribbean cruise. I feel so bad for the employees of MSC.
Congrats on getting your scuba certification, J! Weird that people were telling you not to get it. It's not all *that* dangerous so long as you know what you're doing, which is the point behind getting dive certification. Just avoid underwater cave diving, that's incredibly dangerous no matter how skilled you are.
I have never sailed with MSC however, I met a crew member while on board RCL that use to work for MSC and he didn’t have positive things to say about the crew treatment. He loved RCL.
Congratulations on your accomplishments, I’m so proud, you did it 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
As for MSC crew being mistreated, not cool at all . Like you said, happy cruise, happy ship! Thanks for sharing 🛳️🛳️
I'm 62 years old and my husband and I still scuba dive. We're certified divers and have been diving in a lot of different places. The dive team in Cozumel is my favorite of all places we've been. They really care about the divers in their care. You picked a great place to be certified. Congratulations.
Congratulations on your scuba 🤿 diving and Congratulations 🎉on getting invited by RC! That’s AMAZING! I love when you call MSC the “Mafia Shipping Company” 😂 cracks me up every time.
Yeah, sadly HR usually looks out for the best of the company. I wonder if there are any legal steps crew members can take🤷🏻♀️
Congratulations! You have worked very hard for everything that you’ve accomplished kudos to you.
Luv how u say thank u and appreciate your subbies/supporters. Congratulations on your accomplishments!!
Congratulations on the scuba certification!!
I work in fright forwarding so I've always known MSC as shipping line, hard for me to think of it as a cruise line lol. Even so I was considering it due to the fact that they will match Royal Caribbean status, but this really makes me rethink it. The failed safety inspection also really doesn't help.
Congratulations on your RCL invite and PADI Jay! You are valuable for cruisers on RUclips. Grateful for your speaking for the silenced. Some Crew work is above indentured servant but it doesn’t seem like it. As a cruisers, let’s be good to them. Safe travels!
Wow! Congratulations on your scuba certification. 🎉
Also, that’s wonderful that RCI reached out to you. That’s got to make your mom proud! Your hard work is finally paying off.
I've been on one cruise in my life and that's part of why. I start watching your videos for some reason I get enjoyment out of watching your videos definitely looking forward to my second cruise keep up good work player
Mistreating service workers make me angry too.
Congrats on the PADI !!!!!!!
We went to Australia for a work thing, and the first thing my husband did, before we even started packing, was to recertify his PADI and any other diving stuff before we left so he could have fun if he had a chance to go for a dive.
Congratulations on your OWC! I just got certified last year at the age of 59 - I was the oldest one BY FAR in the class, but I passed on the first try. It had also been a lifelong dream for me - i love being under the water!
Congratulations on your cert and the RC trip!
Congrats on the diving certification!! I agree that the laundry issue is a health and sanitary concern. That’s a recipe for mild and mildew!
How awful & stressful for the crew. They are such hardworking individuals & honestly dont have time for this. To be a service person & be unkempt could affect their income. Not to mention your personal dignity. They cant afford laundry service. Come on MSC, do the right thing!
Do
Congratulations on your continued success!!!! So happy for you!! 🎉
Congratulations Jay, when you put your mind to anything you desire to do, it's done!!🙌👏👏👏
Congratulations on getting your scuba diving certificate Jay and of course all the rest of the good news. I don't comment often but I have been watching you since the very early days, so I am extremely happy that you're channel is going from strength to strength. You have worked very hard for what you have achieved, wishing you every success for the future.
They are outta line! Why penny pinch the crew. They should not be paying for Landry. They should not be paying for bed. They should not be paying for Food. Those are essential services! How DARE a yu expect someone to live where they work without that. Shady shady Billionaire businesses
Good example is what ever ship Capt Kate is on the crew is well behaved , polite and mostly happy to work for her.
Congrats J, on the Scuba certification, and free cruise. Proud of you!
It's high time the US government imposes laws against the cruiselines for employee protection. It's a HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE. Years ago when we started sailing on Celebrity, pre RCCL, our room attendant told us the first day of a new cruise was the roughest with very long tiring day. Yes these lines are not US flagged but something has to be done to protect crew, and passengers, especially if they I making money again
Not an American ship, no jurisdiction to impose such things.
The u.s is not the world police, let there country inforce the laws if they have them, and before u think I don't care, I do and it's not right but we can not police the hole world when our country is falling apart
Well, MSC is not a cruiseline I ever want to travel on, until they start treating their employees better!
Congrats on becoming a certified dcuba diver. Never let anyone step on your dreams. Having watched and listened to you ,I believe you can do whatever you desire. Thanks for caring about the ships staff. Happy ,safe travels. Grandma /Great Grandma age 83👍🌞⛴️🧳🌴
Great job on the certification. I’m sure you’re happy to not have to do the extra training before each discovery dive. Welcome to the underwater world of Scuba.
I’ve cruised quite a few lines, but I only met miserable crew members on MSC. I felt awful and have not cruised them again. For what they charge, those crew members can’t be making enough.
Congratulations on your certification 🎉
I'm glad you are bringing this problem to light. I bet if the crew started showing up for work in stinky uniforms, MSC would fix those machines. I also want to point out that you should never expect too much help from HR. HR works for the Company, and they are looking out for the company's best interest, not yours.
Congratulations on your scuba certification achievement , Enjoy it on purpose.
Richard Branson said it best, customers don't come 1st, staff come 1st. b/c if you don't take care of your staff, they won't take care of your customers.
J., Congrats on attaining your life long goal!!!! Also, thanks for the great job you do bringing these vlogs to us. Lastly, how wonderful it was to be invited to cruise on the Allure. Not sure why someone would have said the cruise lines wouldn't want to work with you...They are the lucky ones to have you onboard!
Heck yay, MILDEW is a concern. It should be FREE for them to throw them in a few washers & dryers! Maybe, a lot of the employees do @home wash by hand. They came to more modern Life, however it came to them! So, they don’t wanna wash them out. Nor, should they have too! Hopefully, they (MSC) will PROMPTLY..FIX their NEEDED EMPLOYEES very much NEEDED facilities!! Thanks, Justin🌸
As former crew, totally agree with you Jay on understanding crew issues. MSC is weird and not for us.
Hey Jay, make sure you do your Advance Open Water certification as well. Most places you travel to and want to Dive, when you're just Open Water they limit you.
Excited to see the vlog on Allure of the seas. Fiance and I taking our first cruise on her- 4 night Halloween cruise
Now on a msc cruise and some staff and miserable. I try to stay away from most of the staff . This makes so much sense because like you said happy crew, happy ship.
Congrats on the Padi certification.
A little known fact, you can get Padi certified on the Paul Gauguin in Tahiti. Although it will consume some of your vacation time. Kind of cool.
Awesome on both announcements!!! So happy for you getting the Royal deal. And SCUBA cert? Crazy!!! Scares the H out of me.
WOW this is such a great news video!!! CONGRATS MY DUDE on 2 amazing achievements!
Also, yes guests come first BUT A HUGE aspect of that is customer service, and if your crew aren't happy - it translates directly to service.
Thank you!!!!
I’m on MSC Seaside right now! Going from Port Canaveral to Nassau and Ocean Cay. I would say it seems like the employees are either under staffed or over worked or both. I saw an employee caring luggage and he looked exhausted ( not from the luggage it was small) but just the amount of work which is very sad.
Congratulations!!! Well deserved.
This is crazy. Me being from Las Vegas and having had worked in casinos. I assumed ships had like a wardrobe department where at the end of the day you turn in your dirty uniform and then the next day you get a clean one. It's ridiculous that these people don't have to work so much have to do their own laundry.
I am a Divemaster since 1985. I started SCUBA Diving in 1965 at Ft Hood Texas. As long as you follow PADI Guidelines regarding safe diving, SCUBA Diving is probably safer than driving in a car which kills 45,000 people a year, so congratulations J!
SSI diver here!!! Diving is so much fun! I take off season cruises to go diving a few times a year
Congratulations!!! Very cool!
It’s sound like we the customers need to start a boycott against MSC.
Yes. I guess MSC is a cruisline I won't ever sail on, unless they start treating their employees better!
I will be on the RCL Presidents cruise and now I am looking forward to hopefully seeing you and Lauren there too!
Congratulations Jay for the invite. I will definitely see you on the President's cruise i had such a great time on the 50th anniversary President's cruise so cant wait. Please let us know if you have any insight on the guest artist in previous years they had Hall and Oaks, Billy Ocean just to name a few. Ok see you on the Allure ans Congratulations on your fiance visa for Lauren as well as you certification!
Thanks Jay as always helpful tips and bits of information for cruisers. And it is too bad that the cruise lines who are making a lot of money can't get their act together to figure it out that crew members do deserve more than what sometimes they're given. And congratulations to you on getting your certification and scuba hopefully you'll see many beautiful things under the sea.
Congratulations on the scuba cert. a lot of hard work well rewarded.
Congratulations 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 you took me out with "HA in your face" 🤣😂🤣😂 Go ahead and BRAGGGG enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Excellent! Congratulations!!! More opportunities ahead ❤ Loving the content 😊
Congratulations! I ❤ life long dreams! 🎉
Congratulations on your certification!!🎉🎉
Congrats on your PADI certification. I was able to get certified ( NAUI ) years ago as a PE course in college
I hate people leaving dirty plates and glasses outside their doors in the hallways. We had to tiptoe around to get to my room.
What about the mistreatment of passengers by employees. What about the crime and murders on cruise ships that cruise companies try to hide.
Congratulations on everything that you’ve accomplished!
Congratulations on your certification! Thats a huge achievement and you definitely shouldnt apologise for highlighting it :)
Congratulations J 🎉 crew must be treated much better.
I too passed my PADI in ‘92. Well done Jay👍🏾👏🏾
GOOD FOR YOU.. YOU DESERVE IT. YOUR VLOGS ARE GREAT AND YOU WORK HARD AT IT. ENJOY!!!
As a passenger I’d give up significant square footage of my cabin to give the crew more square footage and better accommodations
Absolutely horrible. And to ignore the letter of concern? Preposterous! MSC administrators should be sued.
You better watch out, Royal has probably oversold that Alure sailing too!
Congrats on the scuba achievement and RC invite!
🎉 Congratulations 🎉
Super Congrats Jay🥳Keep Pouring IT ON💜
Congrats on the PADI scuba licensing!! I have my scuba certification too and really enjoyed the many dives I did over the years. If you get a chance the Cayman Island dives are wonderful!
I was on Carnival Magic a few weeks ago. Several washer’s & dryer’s didn’t work.
The crew members told me theirs didn’t work either. It takes 2 hours to dry clothes. If the crew is uncomfortable 😣 how can they provide excellent service 🤷🏾♀️
Love your updates. Congratulations on your scuba completion.
I just came home from a 4 day trip on MSc divina and I can say it was the worst experience and would not go again I’ve been on Royal and carnival just to put that out there ! Long story short the employee where extremely rude front desk would close extremely early and situation or problem they would basically just say there’s nothing we can do like they pocket the money and don’t care about you afterwards just a couple things to not type an essay was just my experience not saying you shouldn’t book a cruise with theme but wanted to mention this ! Also there’s not much to do on board but that is just the design of the ship if you aren’t into drinking and eating definitely not for you
Congratulations on getting your scuba license!! Congratulations on your free cruise with Royal. I have watched you since your infancy and am so proud of you!!! I would kill to get your autograph on one of your t-shirts and one day have the money to go on one of your group cruises. I live near the port in Ft. Lauderdale so it's just a matter of winning a lottery or somehow figuring out how to save enough money. Your mama raised you to be a wonderful human being. Congratulations again!!🎉🎉
Wow. Thank you so much for this! I hope to see you on a cruise one day or in Fort Lauderdale and if I do I have with an autograph and drink!🍹
@@JSHIPLIFE you just made my whole day!!!!
@@lizkotchek928 The feeling Is mutual. Seriously thank you!
As a master scuba diver, I say welcome to the club!
Awesome, congrats!!! Movin on up! 🤙
Happy for you. We loved the Allure.
Congratulations and welcome to the scuba crew (come on in, the water's warm 😁! And good for you for with the Royal Carrib invite; hope you have a great time.
Congrats on your certification. When I got my P.A.D.I. card back in 1982,I threw away my fishing pole and bought a spear and speargun.
