  • Tomato harvest is winding down in our area and soon it will be time to harvest corn and soybeans! This year we had about 140 acres rented out to a local Red Gold tomato grower.
Werner Farms, established in 1960, is a family farm operation based in rural Hanna, IN. The RUclips channel and social media pages are run by Keith Werner, the third generation of Werner Farms.
Werner Farms currently operates on 1,700 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and rye along with 1,000 acres of custom harvest work. The farm has no-tilled since the early 1980s and continues to increase acres of cover crops year to year. Besides the farm operation, Werner Farms has sold Pioneer Seed since the 1980s. Numerous John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm ranging from a 730 to an 8530.
Be sure to subscribe and check back often as we post videos every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We may post more frequently during peak seasons throughout the year.

Their is just something about raising food that people are going to eat that is satisfying. My wife's gig is a community supported agribusiness. We have 80 acres into it. So much more work! It's an enterprise that growth just creates more overhead, and it's not the kind that will ever pay for itself. Human resources, the gift that keeps on taking!
Yet, you know it's going to make people smile and sigh on relief, and that part is good.

Would have been better with less drone video - seen one, seen them all - and more of the actual tomato processing and inner workings. How does the shuttle driver get even loading along the trailer? Blue-tooth closed circuit cameras? Two-way? Good quality video techniques - I was just left wondering about inner workings too much.

+otrot land the tomatoes are Red Gold brand. I have no idea where the growers get the tomato plants. I hope this answers your questions.

How many days does it take to harvest a field that size? Nice weed control, recognize a few of the same ones that give us trouble down here.

TwoHappyChildrenFarm Depends. They stage the plantings so they can alternate between fields and so that not all of the tomatoes come on at once. They've finished on the field with the 6 tower pivot last week which took them about month to do and they should finish the field with the big pivot this weekend if not the first of the week which would have taken them about a month to do also.

TwoHappyChildrenFarm Marestail and waterhemp both became big issues in our area this year.

U probably already answered this. What market are these tomatoes sold to? I have never seen tomatoes harvested such a way. Being from southern California before retirement, I grew up watching tomatoes hand picked. I am assuming these go to the catsup industry?

They are actually taken to Red Gold for ketchup. Don't be afraid to ask questions even if you think I have already answered it! I love reading comments and answering questions!
