Great Vid! I tried switching to the in line hooks and felt I was missing too many hook ups, especially on top water baits. I tried just replacing the rear treble with an inline hook and I feel like that was a good compromise. I didn't miss as many hook ups. Having only one treble to deal with does far less damage to the fish and makes them easier to handle. I generally don't carry a net I either pull them in by hand or use a boga grip. I find that fish generally get hooked on the front treble and the back hook doesn't seem to get impaled in the fish the way trebles do. If it does it is fairly easy to remove without doing major surgery on the fish. Another benefit of having in line hooks is that when a fish runs into heavy grass (redfish are notorious for this) treble hooks will often hook the grass, changing the leverage angle on the hook and allowing the fish to get off. In line hooks, and even just having the inline hook on the back of the bait seem to help prevent that from happening. Of course you don't gain some of the advantages of having dual in line hooks when you leave the front treble on. Grass still gets caught on the front treble and you need to fight every fish like it is hooked on the lighter treble hook since it's hard to tell if a fish is hooked on the front treble or the rear in line hook. Overall though, I felt this was a better set up for me than dual inline hooks or dual trebles. It does take a little trial and error to make sure the treble and rear in line hook are balanced so you don't ruin the action of the bait, but once you find the right combo it's works pretty well.

Great tips thank You. Be careful of the weight of the in-line replacement hook vs treble as it can interfere with the action. I do not use them on the front of lures when fishing for Striped Bass up North as Striped Bass attack the front of lures >90% of the time. And hook up ratio drops dramatically when using the in-line up front for Striped Bass vs the treble.

I just switched to in-line hooks. Hopefully they work good because I hate trebles for the exact reasons you stated

Have had the trebles straight out multiple times on 7M, 52M and Catch 2000. Also I have visited the walk in clinic to have trebles extracted from my fingers.

I made the switch to inline hooks on most of my plugs. There is a minor decrease in hook up percentage but it more than makes up once the fish is hooked and man do I feel better about reaching down to grab it. Nothing like a 10lb red on the back hook and the front hook lodged in your hand.

I have been curious about the hook up ratio with online replacement hooks. I guess I know now

I have found the Owner 2/0 inline hooks are not heavy enough to suspend a 27MR and have switched to 3/0. Anyone else experience this? I wish manufacturers would simply offer an inline option for their top selling lures.

@@flatsclasscharters I just did an experiment in water. A 17MR with Owner 1/0 hooks fitted sank like a rock to the bottom of the sink. 27MR with 2/0 inline owner hooks floated with it's back out of the water and nose slightly down. 17MR and 27MR with original treble hooks suspended slowly downward staying level. I don't have 3/0 inline hooks but suggest some further experimentation to find the correct balance would be needed I think.

I made my previous comment before realizing that Mirrolure actually sell inline hook replacements for various models of their hardbaits. That has worked out better.

I see a "new market" for a Startup Business. You bring in your hard baits, and the business expertly changes out the lures' treble hooks replacing them with in-line hooks "balance" for each brand lure. I think "keeping below Minimum Size game fish ALIVE and ABLE
TO SURVIVE RELEASE" should be reason
enough to BAN Treble Hooks. After all,
"Dead Below Minimum Game Fish" do not pave a bright future for Our Sport to carry on to future generations. I'd also like to see more innovative gadgets made to not just ""Tie leader to Braid", but gadgets made to cut, pack, and store wasted fishing line until it can be taken to a local "Fishing Materials Recycle Center".
Time to help make "America Great Again" regardless... including "Our Favorite Sport".
